THE CHIMES

DECEMBER 2017

THE COMING OF GOD

Our God is the One who comes to us

in a burning bush, in an angel’s song, in a newborn child.

Our God is the One who cannot be found locked in the church,

not even in the sanctuary.

Our God will be where God will be

with no constraints, no predictability.

Our God lives where our God lives,

and destruction has no power

and even death cannot stop the living.

Our God will be born where God will be born,

but there is no place to look for the One who comes to us. When God is ready

God will come even to a godforsaken place

like a stable in Bethlehem.

Watch…

for you know not when

God comes. Watch, that you might be found

whenever wherever

God comes.

Angel Tree and Mitten Tree

The Deacons delivered Thanksgiving baskets to 10 local families through Operation Give Back. Thank you to everyone who contributed food, money and time to assemble and deliver baskets.

PRESBYTERY

Please bring joy to a child by choosing an angel from the Angel Tree. (Instruction sheets for the Angel Tree are in the Gathering Room.) After select - ing an angel, please sign your name next to that child on the

sign-up list. Please feel free to substitute or add to the gift suggestions; simply write the change on the Angel. You are not expected to buy everything on the list. The gifts should not be wrapped, but a donation of gift paper/bag would be appreciated. A donation of large shopping bags with handles would also be appreciated. All gifts must be brought to the Gathering Room by the morning of December 10. The gifts will go to the children of Lighthouse Youth Services, One Way Farm, and the Caring Place. Mittens, hats, gloves and scarves will go to Bethany House. For those offering to deliver the gifts, directions will be provided. For questions, please call Sandra Bowen (236-7158) or e-mail at [email protected].

Each year during the Advent and Christmas season, we turn

our eyes to Bethlehem and celebrate the wondrous gift of Jesus Christ, our Savior. By giving to the Christmas Joy

Offering, you honor this gift by providing assistance to current and retired church workers in their time of need and developing our future leaders at Presbyterian-related racial ethnic schools

and colleges. The Christmas

Joy Offering will be received Dec. 17 and Dec. 24.
