Madhubani paintingMadhubani - The folk art !!
It originated in the Madhubani district of Bihar better known as Maithili painting. It is believed that when king Janaka asked an artist to draw the wedding of his daughter with Rama, he used this form of painting. Since then the women of Mithila district decorate the walls and the floors of their houses with Madhubani art during festivals. In olden days they used twigs to draw the lines but in modern times it is drawn with pen nibs. Our students have tried to adopt the same style.
Madhubani Painting by Year 6 and 7 students.
Jamini Roy was one of the master painters of the Bengal school of art. He adapted the Bengal folk art in his artworks. His paintings depict the socio-culture of the middle-class people, but patronized by the rich. The paintings depict the story of Ramayana and Purana, decorative flowers, birds, animals and Hindu deities, portraits.
The paintings are good evidence of elements of art and principal of art. While copying these paintings the students learn the use of sign and symbols and the brush strokes. It enhances their drawing and colouring skills.
