Dear Members and Friends of The Metropolitan Museum of Art,

From Amsterdam to Basel, The Rhine has seen many civilizations, from Imperial Rome to the medieval Holy Roman Empire to the many kingdoms and principalities which only came together in the 20th century. As a result, each of the riverside cities has its own style and its own history. It is this remarkable diversity which makes this cruise so fascinating.

I look forward to sharing with you my knowledge and appreciation of the important art and architecture of the Rhine region, in both presentations on site and lectures on board.

For those of you who cannot resist the attraction of Amsterdam, an optional three-day prelude will be offered in this city of great museums, at an elegant hotel well-situated on the Amstel River.Following the cruise, there will be an optional postlude offered in Lucerne.

I hope you will join us on this idyllic river cruise, co-sponsored by the Association of Yale Alumni, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and The Lotos Club.

Sincerely,

Olivier Bernier
