RESUMING PUBLIC MASS AT ST. BEDE’S CHURCH: WHAT TO EXPECT POST LOCKDOWN
To help us approach the next phase of reopening safely, Mass with a congregation present will resume at St. Bede’s Church from Monday 6th July. For the past three months our parish staff have been furloughed but from 1 July they begin returning to work to help with preparations. Whilst we wait for further guidelines and clarification from the Diocese we can expect the following (pending more information);
Dispensation from the Sunday obligation will remain which means that you can attend Mass on any day of the week
Numbers of attendees at Mass will be limited due to the need to maintain social distancing. To help with communication please make sure you are registered with the parish (this can be done via our website)
Social Distancing will be practiced, measures are already in place but further measures may be needed
Expect some liturgical changes which will ensure the safety of both priests and parishioners
Volunteers will be needed at the start and end of each Mass and to keep the church open for prayer
Even as we begin this next phase, you and/or your family may not be able to attend Mass for several weeks or even on a weekly basis. Capacity in church will be restricted and we will need to manage numbers attending. Further details on how we will do this will follow soon.
All measures being implemented are to ensure the safety of everyone attending church. We will need your patience and understanding as we move forward with this unchartered and complex next phase of reopening.
INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW WHEN COMING IN TO CHURCH
In order to keep everyone safe when coming to church, the following guidelines will need to be followed;
Please apply hand sanitizer when entering and leaving the church, either your own or use the one provided inside the entrance to the Cloister (if you have your own single use disposable gloves please wear them)
Use the antibacterial wipe given to you to wipe your seating area as you leave the church
There is a one way system in operation which has been clearly marked out with arrows on the floor
Please remember to observe 2 metre social distancing at all times unless you are from the same household
Sit in seats marked with a tick, a cross means please don’t sit here, so that we can ensure spacing
Candles are available in the area in front of the statue of Our Lady, to reduce coin handling a donation of a £1 coin can be used for four candles
Help us to keep the Cloister clear by not waiting in the area, this will ensure that people can easily enter and exit the church
Remember to take all your belongings home with you when you leave the church
Anyone who is unwell or shielding and anyone in the “vulnerable” category is asked not to enter at the current time
Please help our volunteers keep us all safe by following their instructions
CHURCH USHERS
To ensure the health and safety of all parishioners, and keep the church open for prayer, we need volunteer ushers present in 2-hour slots at certain periods of the day. If you are able to volunteer please send an email to [email protected]. Many thanks to all who have volunteered so far.
St. Bede’s Church Opening Times
The church is open for private prayer at the following times:
Monday to Saturday from 10.30 am until 5.00 pm
Sunday from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm
