Our DR Chainsaw team gathered early Tuesday morning after Easter to respond to the storm damage in Chattanooga. When we opened our DR trailer we discovered that thieves had stolen all of our chainsaws and other equipment. The thieves had broken into both the chainsaw trailer and our rebuild construction trailer. Later, we would estimate replacement costs for these items to be close to $5,000. At first we were sickened by this discovery and quickly anger tempted us. Why would anyone steal from those who help people during crisis and disasters? How would we respond? First, we prayed for the thieves that had stolen our equipment and asked God to forgive them. Our prayer was that someone might share the Gospel with them and that their lives would be changed by Christ. There is something about praying for those that would hurt you, which changes your own anger and feelings towards them. Prayer has a way of putting all responses and emotions in its proper place. Now we were ready to respond to the call for help. So, our men retreated to their homes to gather their personal equipment and saws. We had a job to do and families in Chattanooga needed help. We would deal with our theft problems later. Our God is so gracious and good! Through our insurance and the heartfelt response of many individuals we have more than enough resources to replace our equipment. Now we are even better equipped to serve in future Disaster Relief call outs. I am so grateful to everyone that has given financially or donated equipment to replace what was taken. May God bless each of you! Pray for our Disaster Relief teams. Pray about being a DR volunteer, ready to respond when called upon. And I would ask that you continue to pray for those that stole from this ministry, that they would come to know Christ and “steal no more.” Kirk

Wow! What a crazy weather pattern that we have been in lately. Our Disaster Relief Chainsaw Team has been called out four times in the last eight weeks. (Even as I write this, the current weather predictions are calling for heavy thunderstorms with a chance for high winds). We have responded to call outs in Cookeville, Cumberland County, and twice in Chattanooga. I’m thankful for the volunteers that are willing to serve in times of destruction by tornadoes and high winds. I’m also looking forward to new volunteers that will join our ranks soon.

The Easter Tornado struck Chattanooga around 11:30 p.m. and caused great damage. Reports confirm that the EF-3 tornado’s path was 1500 yards wide and over nine miles long! Although it seemed underreported, there were hundreds of houses destroyed in this storm. The Easter Tornado hit in the backyard of where I grew up, so I’m very familiar with many people who were affected by this storm. I went to school or attended church with a lot of these home owners.

And I would ask that you continue to pray for those that stole from this ministry, that they would come to know Christ and “steal no more.”

What is left of house after Easter tornado in Chattanooga. This car was parked in the wrong place.

Well placed tree! Too bad the wheelbarrow couldn’t handle it. Sad that this was an all too common site.

A big tree no one else wanted to cut because it was next to

This is what is left as we dragged the big tree to the side of the road.

Look at all that sawdust! Cutting away small stuff to get to the big stuff.

The skid steer saved us much back breaking work. Cutting up a large tree while FEMA truck picking up trees

HAPPY

MOTHER’S DAY

It seems God had a different plan.

Have you ever heard, “third time is a

charm”? It would appear that this is the case

for the traveling basket. Actually it is the

fourth time.

The gift basket was first intended to go

the Get-Together, which was cancelled. It

went to the auction for the tornado victims—

also cancelled. Then the WMU directors that

originally furnished the gift cards for this par-

ticular basket, decided to give the basket to

the Children’s Home in Oakdale, which is un-

der renovations with no children at this time.

Our basket finally made it to it’s final resting

place, or should I say places.

Yes, the traveling basket, with perish-

able items is now in Brentwood Tennessee

and is divided up between 4 Tennessee Bap-

tist Children’s campuses. Greg McCoy, Presi-

dent of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s

Homes, said the house parents will enjoy an

evening out with dinner and the children will enjoy the movie, pop-corn,

and candy! So it does appear, that God had a different plan for this basket-

aka “the traveling basket”.

I hope that each of you are finding ways to continue your

WMU/Missions Ministries though the Covid-19 dreadful experience or is it?

Is the Covid-19 a dreadful experience or is it an opportunity to spread,

share and show God’s love in ways we have never seen. I think it is all

about perspective! Is perspective that it is a dreadful time, or a time of cre-

ating a “new normal” and finding creative ways to share Jesus with the lost

world.

Don’t get me wrong, the virus itself is dreadful and heart wrenching

for those that contract it, those that care for those that do contract it and for

those that have and will lose loved ones from it. But if we take a different

perspective, then we can find ways to help those that have it, or care for

them.

New and innovative ways are just waiting to take shape. What ways

are you going to share during this time.?

Cards for victims of Covid-19, cards for doctors, nurses and other

health care workers, cards for those that have lost loved ones. Prayers for

the above fore mentioned. Kroger, Walmart, Food City gift cards to those

that have been furloughed from their places of employment.

I choose to believe that God is giving us opportunities to share His

love in ways we never thought possible. Yes, it is all about perspective.

What’s your perspective? Yes it stinks, yes it is difficult, yes it is hard, BUT

there are more sermons, devotions and God’s Word on Facebook, You

Tube, Zoom, Ring than ever before. I have just gotten off of a Virtual Prayer

Tour with church planters in Denver and 20 plus women from all over the

state of Tennessee, that would have never happened before Covid-19!
