Staff NewsKristi Taylor has resigned effective Thursday, August 9 as Ministry Assistant to our Pastor and Associate Pastor. Kristi began serving on our church staff in January of

2011. We are grateful for the multiple contributions that Kristi offered in this role. She clearly viewed her job as a ministry. Her smile and willingness to work as part of a

larger staff team were noticeable by everyone on staff and those touched by her work. She shared these words in her resignation letter...”My sister who has serious health problems needs to be my main focus at this time and I need to and I want to be with her.” Kristi, we will miss you and your welcoming and inviting smile in the office but

wish you the very best. Please stop by the Main Office and share your thanks with Kristi.

Michael Moore has provided excellent service to our church as our Interim Organist. I am grateful for his worship leadership since May. Sherry Upshaw comes next week to be our new Associate Minister of Music/Organist. I am thrilled to welcome her to our staff. With that in mind, I would like to share words of gratitude from Michael to you.

A LETTER FROM MICHAEL MOORE

Dear Friends,

As we approach my last Sunday in a leadership role in our service of worship, it is truly with all humility that I thank God and you, my friends, for allowing me to assist in worship at the organ. Over the last 40 years, our Lord has allowed me to assist in His worship many times under the guidance and leadership of four Ministers of Music and one extended Interim. My respect and love for Billy Orton and what he brings to our church daily is boundless. He is the consummate musician and a true-to-life, deeply dedicated Minister of the Gospel through an endless variety of church music. Helping him bring our Sunday morning worship service to fruition is a blessing and a privilege.

It is my deepest hope that those who hear what we have planned and prayed about for inclusion in worship and what God has inspired us to do to enhance your anticipation and excitement about singing His praises will be convicted that “worship” is our goal; not entertainment or performance. I will miss the moment when I have introduced the first hymn, hoping you will sing it gloriously and with all your strength, as God requires. I also will miss the moment when that hymn is finishing and I know that we all did truly worship. Most of all, I will miss awaiting on Monday, sometimes Tuesday, Billy’s first sketch of the service for the following Sunday. I look immediately at the first hymn or group of hymns. Those moments are an intimate gift from God that I will deeply miss, until next time of course.

We are blessed with a new minister in Sherry Upshaw. Those of us who know her are sure that you are in for a new musical and worship experience. She is a true minister. She will love you and you will love her. Show her the welcome that only First Baptist folks can give.
