Mark and Ione Hanson have been living with the progression of Ione’s memory loss for 11 years. They are experiencing the changes, challenges, losses, fears and enduring love that so many people face with memory loss. Pastor Mark Hanson, former bishop of the ELCA and now Founding Director of Interfaith at Augsburg University, will share insights he is learning about growing old, memory loss, and God’s calling to be a care partner to one experiencing memory loss. The Rite of ConfirmationToday we celebrate 112 youth who affirm their baptismal promises as disciples of Jesus Christ. These

young people have completed more than three years of learning and growing in their faith, deepening their relationship with God, learning to serve like Jesus, and connecting through Christian friendship during weekly small groups, large group sessions, retreats, and summer camp.

Confirmation is part of our Skipping Stones ministry, celebrating six significant moments in the journey of life and faith starting with baptism and continuing through high school graduation. Just as stones skip across water creating ripples at various points, our young people experience God’s grace breaking into their lives at different times and places. We mark, celebrate, and bless our children during worship to remind them they are God’s beloved child and to fulfill the congregation’s promise made at each baptism to support and encourage our children and their families in the life of faith.

The Confirmation program culminates in 9th grade, where youth explore the five promises made at Confirmation and how they can make faith their own. Youth also create handmade stoles with images and symbols to represent their personal interests, gifts, talents, and faith journey. On Saturday morning, families and friends gathered for a meal in the Youth and Sports Center and a Confirmation Celebration Service in the Sanctuary. Parents and guardians lit affirmation candles, given to their children to represent the passing on of faith as youth make faith their own. Youth were gifted with an engraved skipping stone that reads “I believe … John 11:27.”

Once confirmed, youth become adult members of the congregation with the expectation they will continue their involvement in our faith community, seek ways to use their spiritual gifts in the church and the community, and continue to dedicate their lives to serving Christ in word and deed.

Worship Volunteer OpportunitiesMany people make worship happen

here at St. Andrew’s. From those who greet at the front door to those who make sure that the coffee is hot to those who ensure there is enough wine and bread for commu-nion - we are so grateful.

Are you interested in being on the monthly rotation of hospitality volunteers? It’s a great way to meet other St. Andrew’s members and use your gifts to serve this community. Please feel free to inquire about any of the below service opportunities without committing - we’re glad to talk through what these roles look like more specifically and discern together what might be a good fit for you! If you are interested, please contact Stephanie Anderson at 651-762-9135 or [email protected].

Family Greeters: Are you and your family looking for a way to get involved? One easy way is to sign up as a family to greet on Saturday evening or Sunday morning! Families would be asked to arrive 30 minutes before the service to open doors and welcome people to worship.

First Responders: We invite you to join our growing First Response Team! Start today, and make a difference in the lives of our members.

Prayer Corner (Great Hall only): Do you feel called to offer the gift of personal prayer? Each Sunday during com-munion, we need volunteers to prayer with individuals at the Prayer Corner in the Great Hall (Contemporary).

Coffee & Cookies: We know that hospitality in the form of coffee, cookies, and lemonade are one of the many ways the Spirit moves us into community with one another! We need volunteers to help set-up and clean-up these hospitality stations each Sunday.

Ushers, Communion Assistants: We are always looking for more hands to help with handing out bulletins, offer-ing, and communion. We also invite you to consider helping prep communion before the service . Come be a part of a monthly team of volunteers who do this important ministry!
