BURT’S BULLETIN

Third grade students at Weston

completed the Applied Skills portion of the

ISTEP+ test and took the complete IREAD3

assessments during the week of March 10th,

and did an outstanding job. During

assessments, as in the classroom, it is

important for students to try their best, use

their time wisely, read carefully, and have a

good attitude. Our 3rd graders did all of

these and we couldn’t be more proud of the

effort shown. Students and teachers

worked hard in getting to this

accomplishment.

The results are back for this year’s

IREAD3 and 96.5% of Weston’s third grade

students passed the initial IREAD3 test. The

students who did not pass will have the

opportunity to attend summer school and

retake the test in June.

“YOU’VE GOT A FRIEND IN ME”

“You’ve Got a Friend in Me” is the theme song written for the movie Toy Story (it also appears in Toy Story 2 & 3). The lyrics talk about the

compassion one person might have for another. In part, the words to the song say: “You've got a friend in me…..You've got troubles, well I've got 'em too…….There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you……We stick together and we see it through…….You've got a friend in me

We all have troubles at some time….it may be that we’ve forgotten our lunch at home, or that a friend is being mean to us, or that we miss a grandparent. These are times when we might need to talk to someone or to have help in solving the problem. This is where a person who shows the character quality of Compassion can be helpful. That person will know what to do because they will be following the 5 “I Will” statements:

I will:

Stop to help

Listen when others want to talk

Give of my resources to help

those in need

Look for lasting solutions

Comfort others without regard

to race, gender, faith, age or

nationality

Compassion is our character trait for

April and one that we all have the chance to show several times every day. In whose life will you make a difference today?

wristband or BOOK by spinning the Weston

wonderful evening!

WESTON GRANDPARENTS WEEK

Weston Elementary extends a special

invitation for Grandparents to eat lunch with

their grandchild during the week of April

14-18. We do not have a specific day

identified during the week for grandparents

or grade levels because limiting attendance

to one day would prohibit some

grandparents from attending because of their

schedules. Also, grandparents are not

limited to this week to have lunch with their

grandchildren. You are welcome to have

lunch throughout the year.

To maintain the continuity of the

educational program, we request that

classroom visitations not occur before or

after lunch during this week.

Parking-Since this is a special week,

we request all parking be at the

NORTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING.

Spaces are available in front for those

with special needs.

We will have a person to greet and

register visitors at door 7 from

10:20-12:00.

Please enter using door 7. Each

entrance to the building has a number

on it.

We will be set up to take a picture of

grandparents with grandchild(ren) BEFORE

eating lunch and the pictures will be

available before they leave. There is no

cost. Grandparents will be able to shop at

the Book Fair with their grandchildren.

WILD ANIMALS

Have you ever seen a baboon up close……or

had an opportunity to watch an American wolf

sniff its environment? Weston students had

both of those opportunities and more when

Larry & Cheryl Battson, from Wildlife

Educational Services, visited Weston

Elementary on Wednesday, March 19th. When

the Battsons visit, they always bring with them

the most interesting wild animals……and tell

students a little bit about each animal. Some of

the information shared during this visit

included:

American Alligator---can be put to sleep

by rubbing its belly! Over 1 million

alligators live in Florida;

Page 4: The meeting from last night’s Roundtable will be aired ... · does not work for you. Weston’s time will be April 15th from 5-7 PM. Please use the north entrance by the cafeteria

of smell and are helping to control the

small animal population in the Yosemite

National Forest

Baboon---are always learning….and are

VERY active

Python Snake---can go as long as 1 year

without eating and can then eat big

animals. This one is on the shoulders of

3rd grader Peyton Speer.
