The McGuffey High School Culminating Graduation Project (CGP) for members of the Class of 2019, 2020, and 2021 will take the form of a Career Exploration Project to be completed over the course of their four years of high school.

Career Exploration Project – The central idea of this project is for the student to engage in a progressive study of a career field that can benefit the student’s future. The activities involved in this option include: career exploration utilizing resources and software, job shadowing an individual employed in that profession, researching specific educational opportunities in chosen occupation.

Examples include: Investigation of three careers in medical field, Investigation of three careers in law enforcement, Investigation of three careers in social work, etc.

CGP Timeline:

The Culminating Graduation Project (CGP) is designed for specific steps to be completed over the student’s high school experience. Each of the four years comes with a goal to be achieved by the student with the assistance of his/her mentor. The goal for each year is outlined below.

Freshmen Year – The mentor will review the format and requirements of the Career Exploration Project and facilitate a documented discussion with each individual student about possible career choices for the CGP.

Sophomore Year – The student will select a career option to pursue as a part of the Career Exploration Project CGP. The student will also provide an outline of the specifics of the content as it relates to his/her career choice option.

Junior Year – The student will need to submit the prescribed documentation to their mentor at quarterly progress checks throughout the year. Students will also be introduced to the technology required to present their CGP to the review board. During their Junior year, students who have completed their CGP documentation and have received final approval from their mentor by the end of the second term may present their CGP.

Senior Year – Students will be required to obtain final approval of their CGP from their mentor by the end of the second term. Students will present their CGP to the review board during the third term on the day designated by the district.

CGP Technology:

The use of current technology to communicate is a secondary goal of the CGP. During their Junior year, students will receive training and information on the use of approved technology to present their CGP to the review committee.

Students who transfer into the district beginning their junior year need to submit no later than the end of the first semester of that year. A CGP may not be started until a proposal (Form A) is approved by the student’s mentor. If the mentor is unavailable, a student may gain approval from his/her guidance counselor.

9. After the mentor completes the final checklist, the CPG will be forwarded to the high school guidance office secretary ([email protected]).
