Instructions
This booklet has been designed to help students and families work through the subject selection process. Students should follow the steps below:
Curriculum
1. Familiarize yourself with the Intermediate Years Curriculum Model (page 3) and Intermediate Years Curriculum Guide (separate document)
PART 1 – Course Planning Record
2. PART 1 - COURSE PLANNING RECORD (page 2) provides detailed instructions relevant to Year 10 course selections. Students should work through each step and keep records of their progress by checking the appropriate boxes.
PART 2 – Year 10 Planner
3. PART 2 – YEAR 10 PLANNER (page 6-10) should be completed to map out subject selections.
4. Check the Learning Area Flow Charts (in Curriculum Guide) for any prerequisites for future study pathways or subject choices. Some SACE pathways require particular choices in Year 10.
PART 3 – Subject Selection Sheet
5. Complete PART 3 - SUBJECT SELECTION SHEET (page 10 – 14) by filling in all required boxes. It is vital that your choices are in priority order.
6. Once complete, log onto Web Preferences and enter final subject selections
PART 4A –Advancement application
7. In some circumstances in Year 10 you can apply for a ‘Taste of SACE’ via an advancement application. This requires supporting documentation to justify the advancement and final approval from the faculty leader.
8. If you do choose an advancement subject you will need to complete PART 4A – ADVANCEMENT APPLICATION before the subject can be selected and submit this to your Home Group teacher.
PART 4B –Against recommendations
9. Teachers have provided recommendations to assist with your subject selections. These provide a guide as to your capacity for achieving success in a particular subject area. It is not recommended that you choose against recommendations.
10. If you do choose against subject recommendations, you will need to complete PART 4B - AGAINST RECOMMENDATION DECLARATION before the subject can be selected and submit this to your Home Group teacher.
PART 5 – Final Declaration
11. A PART 5 - FINAL DECLARATION must be printed and signed by you, your parents, and your Home Group teacher.
12. Submit this to your Home Group teacher to finish the process

PART 2 – YEAR 10 PLANNER - In preparation for selecting your subjects have a look at the list of subjects on offer- Read course descriptions for any that interest to you and look at the Year 10 samples- Check the Learning Area Flow Charts for any prerequisites for future study pathways or subject choices. Some
SACE pathways require particular choices in Year 10.- Use PART 2 - YEAR 10 PLANNER to:
1. write in subjects already studies in Year 92. consider any subjects you may have/want Year 11 & 123. plan out your possible subjects for Year 10 accordingly
- Note: Compulsory course = purple boxes, Required courses = blue boxes, Free Choice = green boxes- Select required choices (blue boxes) from the Year 10 subject list only- Some free choice subjects are available to select at Year 9 or 10 (see table of subjects)- No more than four free choices are permitted from any single learning area. (including reserves)- If you wish to choose a ‘Taste of SACE’ ADVANCEMENT in a subject, you will need to complete PART 4A before you
can select it.

These must be selected according to the requirements in each box
ie. The Arts or Technologies or Free Choice Reserve. Free choice Reserves should be in priority order.
