Practical activity Play a game where you have the cards hidden around in different locations and play a hunting game. Children have to first locate the numbers, (you can use simple clues to read to add another element) and then, once found, ask your child to order them all independently. Joe Wicks workout or morning exercise Maths Finding +1 to 20. Sing a count song where the numbers get bigger e.g. 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive. Practical activity Using your number cards previously made, lay out different numbers and using different objects encourage your child to count out the items to find one more. Make a number line using the number cards. Ask your child to close their eyes and then you remove a card. What is missing, how do you know? Encourage your child to explain their answer e.g. “I know 5 is missing because it’s 1 more than 4 and 1 less than 6” Digging deeper- challenge them using larger numbers. Joe Wicks workout or morning exercise Maths Finding -1 to 20. Sing a counting song where the numbers get smaller. Practical activity Using your number cards previously made, lay out different numbers and using different objects encourage your child to count out the items to find one less. Go onto Tapestry to use the 100 ‘splat square’ for children to explore visually seeing 1 more and 1 less by splatting the numbers. Digging deeper- challenge them using larger numbers. Joe Wicks workout or morning exercise Maths A mix of -1 and +1 to 20. Give the children a number to make on their fingers and then say what’s one more or less. Children to make that number using their fingers. Practical activity Roll a dice to get a number or roll 2 dice if you want a larger number. Using your number cards or various objects around the house try to count out what would be one more or one less. Adults can choose like heads or tails whether the number their child is counting out will be one more or one less.

Daily Phonics Lessons from Read, Write, Inc: Set 1 or 2 on Youtube Don’t forget that children need daily phonics and reading practice! Daily reading: if you have run out of books, there are lots available on the Oxford Owl website.

Communication and Language, Literacy Go onto Tapestry and watch today’s video of Mrs van Zyl reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I’m sure most children know this story really well so encourage them to join in. Have a look at the photo on the same post of some tiny caterpillars. This week and next we are going to be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Use some paper of a notebook to make a ‘diary’ to fill in over the next few weeks (or if you have a printer you can get one from Twinkl, along with various other Hungry Caterpillar resources you may like to try). Ask your child to label today’s entry as Monday (can be copied) and then write a simple sentence about the caterpillars e.g. The caterpillars are tiny. Add more detail and sentences as appropriate for your child. Encourage use of phonics and ‘Fred Fingers’ to help with spelling, support with spelling for longer words like ‘caterpillar’.

Communication and Language, Literacy Watch this video of The Very Hungry Caterpillar on Youtube. Go onto Tapestry to see today’s update of the caterpillars. Questions to ask: How have they changed from yesterday’s photo? What are they doing? What will happen next? Using your caterpillar ‘diary’ from yesterday, write the day and then a sentence to describe what you can see and how the caterpillars have changed.

Communication and Language, Literacy As yesterday. Do you have any toy food at home? If so, can you sort them into ‘healthy’ foods and ‘treats’. What happens to our bodies when we have too many treats? Why is it important to eat healthy foods? How else can we stay healthy?

Communication and Language, Literacy As yesterday. What are you favourite healthy foods and favourite treats? Can you write a list of each?

Big Write (whole school) See below page 4 – take a look at the picture and discuss. There are some questions to help. Have a go at writing a simple sentence or story to go with the picture following your discussion.

Art (Link to Big Write) Can you find a story about bears in your home or as an audio story that you can act out? Could you make some props, or collect your own teddy bears to join in your acting? Can you create a picture using pencils, crayons, paints of the story and the characters? Art challenge from Mrs Cunningham: Scroll down to see below – page 5

PE Jumping/Hopping “Exploring the Jump.” Find a skipping rope, dressing gown belt or something you can stretch out in a straight line. Get your child to explore different ways to jump over their rope and land on the other side without falling down. Emphasize that a good jump is landed with control. They should not fall down when finishing their jump. Encourage them to try different jumps: • jump with two feet and land on one • jump with one foot and land on two • jump as high as you can Exploring Hopping with “Follow the Leader”. Have your child stand in their own space and follow your instructions through a series of different hops. • Hop in place on right foot, then left foot. • Hop softly so you don’t make a sound. • Hop side to side • Hop forward, hop backwards. • Hop forward and swing your arms. • Hop five times in a row then change feet. BIG WRITE WEEK 2

Question time!

What do you think the bear cubs are thinking?

Which of them do you think will make the best hunter?

Why do you think the relationship between the mother and her cubs is so important?

Would you rather be a fish or a bear?

Can you write a sentence or a simple story about this picture, using your ideas from the questions above?

This is what the rest of the school will be using as a starter. Please feel free to use with your child as appropriate.

Perfect picture!

Imagine you are the fish that the bear is after. Draw or describe what you can see.

Story starter!

Keeping her eyes fixed on the fish, she prepared to pounce.

The ice-cold water made her paws tingle, the sound of the cascading water around her filled her ears, and she could feel her heart pounding inside her chest. Her senses were more alert than ever.

Over years of practice, however, she had perfected the art of blocking out all possible distractions, focusing only on catching her prey.

Her cubs watched from the beach, learning from her every move. She couldn’t afford to teach them bad habits. Every move and every second counted…

Week 2 Space – The Moon (Don’t forget our amazing space scientist this week Dr. Michelle Collins from Surrey

University)

Over the week look up in the sky in the morning. Can you see the moon during the day? What shape is it? (Warning do not look at the Sun directly.)

For more information see https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/uk/london

Let’s get thinking. What if there was no moon?

Where would the Moon go?

How would it change night time?

Background science The Moon's size helps keep the Earth's steady. With no Moon, the Earth would 'wobble', resulting in more dramatic seasons

and weather. The Moon is also responsible for the tides, as well as being used by many animals to help them migrate.

Week 2: God’s Wonderful World Wednesday 22nd April was World Earth Day and you will know our

world is looking a little bit different at the moment. For this week’s

RE I would like you to think about God’s world- how it was created

and how we can do our best to look after it.

1) Start with a prayer, listen to calm music, and put together a focus

point. Ideal opportunity to start outside.

2) Read together Genesis 1: ‘The beginning of the world’. Use your

own children’s bibles or use the resources below:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=genesis+1&versio

n=ICB https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLHB_hNk42g

3) Key questions:

Why did God rest on the seventh day? How do we

remember this in our lives today?

What do you think was good about creation?

What do you wonder about creation?

Which part of creation do you think was God’s favourite

and why?

4) Choose an activity from below as a follow up task. Try to have a go

at a different type of activity each week- writing, art, drama:

Retell the creation story in your own words and record into

your home learning book

Illustrate the creation story using art (see examples below)

Write a psalm or a poem about the creation story

Record a video explaining the importance of looking after

God’s world

Write a letter to the people of the world reminding them

why it is so important to look after our precious world. Give

them reasons using scripture

Write a prayer to God asking him to help the people of the

world to look after his precious gift

5) Think about a calming end to your activity-prayer, music, picture,

time outside
