What is your work background?I was in the SA Army for ten years – doing my border

duty at Rundu. I did my basic training at Voortrekker Hoogte leaving my late husband and children alone for three months.

Why d Why did you choose the Security industry? I started my career as an Administrator for Coin Security in Namibia in

1997. In 2000 I was promoted to the Assistant Coastal Manager. In 2001 we opened Professional Security Force Services. I started with only 7 security officers, 1 Area Supervisor and 1 Controller. In 2011 I had grown the business to 167 Security officers, 4 Area Supervisors and 3 Controllers.

During June 2012, I joined Stallion Security. During my first interview with Mr Dennis and Mr Leo, I requested to only be the Administrator – being very tired at the time. Well only three months later, the Coastal Manager had walked out and I was left behind. I had a lot of assistance from Mr Dennis, Leon and Louis. Oosie visited us and introduced me to the Edcon procedures, training, etc. It was all very new to me, but I learned quickly and will always be thankful to all of them. When Mr Basil was in Namibia as acting GM, although very busy, he was always there to listen and never ashamed of asking for help and this is when I learned that it does not matter who you are or what position you are in, never be ashamed to ask for assistance.

I love working with people. Discipline and respect is my motive; and my motto to all my security officers are: “You never know where I am, nor when and where I am driving around”.

How do you see the Namibia division going forward? We have a lot of “fly by night” companies at the Coastal Area, even throughout Namibia. Clients must be more serious about whom to choose as to only take the cheapest Security Company.

What is most rewarding about your job? I love when a client compliments me on work well done by a security officer. When handing over the bonus voucher or the Creating Confidence badge it is such a pleasure to see the reaction of the officer; smiling, saying thank you and tearing up of happiness. I know I’m strict and not always easy to work for, but at the end of the day, it is a reward and an example to the next manager.

Favourite weekend activity? I love spending time with my children and grandchildren and my dogs. I love working in my garden. Also enjoy listening to Afrikaans music.

What makes you laugh? When looking through my old photo albums and scrap books, memories of the times when I was still young and very active.

Your advice to people in terms of success in the work place? Always be yourself and be honest. Admit when making a mistake, apologise for the mistake and don’t do it again. Be proud and thankful for what you are do, teach others who work with you to always be thankful, honest and proud. Make sure that your co-workers are happy at the end of the month when receiving their salaries. Do not receive the ‘pat on the back’ alone from the big boss, but thank your co-workers for helping you to achieve it.

Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself? I am just me, nobody can change me. I am a very hardworking and proud person. I love the end of my working day. I grew up on a farm in the Free Sate. My parents taught us to be thankful for the smallest gift and look after it for ever; I therefore try my best to teach others to always be thankful as well. I despise people who lie to me – I always say ‘’If you speak the truth we can solve the problem, but if you are lying, you are guilty and there is no problem to solve.’’

If you could date a celebrity, who would it be? Steve Hofmeyr – my grandchildren call him Ouma’s Boyfriend.

Your favourite food / drink? Crayfish, oysters and an ice cold Castle Lager

Tell us your motto in life? To be a good example to my children and grandchildren –they are the loves of my life and my most important aim is to live a healthy life and work as long as I can. Appreciation for little things in life, always try to reach out to others to help them to accept, be thankful and be proud. Never forget the people who help you tomake a success of your career.

THILIVHALI REGINAH MASHAMBA

I started working for stallion in September 2006 as a security guard at De Beers Crown Mines. I’m blessed with two beautiful children, a girl (Daphney, 16) and a boy (Andile, 6). Working for Stallion is a great pleasure because hard work and dedication is recognised.

In 2008 I moved to a new site (Sasol Limited Head Office in Rosebank) as a receptionist, where I did well and excelled at my duties. As a result I was promoted to a Supervisor on site.

In 2012 we lost the site, and I was transferred to Nampak Glass as a Receptionist. It was also a great adventure, I learned a lot. In February 2014 I was offered a position to work in Payroll as a Payroll Administrator.

Over the years that I’ve been with Stallion, I have managed to acquire a Diploma in Office Admin, Diploma Bookkeeping and Certificates inPayroll Administration.

In 1997 I was promoted to an office clerk. In 2000 the company was liquidated, where after I became interested in the Security Industry and started my first job in security in the same year.

After working for several security companies, I joined Stallion in January 2015 as a Cleaner at Witbank Regional Offices. After four months I was promoted to Security Officer at Afrox and EastvaalFord.

A vacancy became available at Stallion Witbank Regional Office for an Office Administrator. I was lucky again to be promoted and currently I am loving my job as administrator. I am studying for Management at IQ academy and would love to see myself promoted further after successfully completing my studies and to move up in the company.

I would like to thank all Stallion Management for giving me this opportunity to learn more and beable to deal with more office challenges.
