Corpus Christi Vocations Weekend (Continued from Page 1)

The nine diocesan seminarians will attend the rehearsal and then attend the 5th Annual Catholic Charities Bishop’s Ball at 6:30 p.m. at The Country Club of Jackson and be recognized at the dinner.

“This will give exposure to our seminarians and put a face on our future priests,” Bishop Latino said. “It also will provide the opportunity for our semi-narians to see another aspect of ministry in the work that Catholic Charities does. The witness talks by Charities’ clients are very powerful.

“Often our seminarians focus on the liturgical aspect of priesthood. They can never have exposure to bringing the Gospel into people’s lives through service to one’s neighbor. It illustrates the washing of feet by Jesus and also fulfills the command, ‘Feed my Sheep, Tend my Sheep.’ It is a good way to get seminari-ans to see that what happens on the altar has to be transferred to outside the church walls and doors.”

On Saturday, June 5, Scott Thomas will be ordained to the priesthood at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter Cathedral. Parishes throughout the diocese will be en-couraged to hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 10:30-12:30 for those not attending the ordination so that they may join in prayer with the Bishop and Scott.

On Sunday, June 6, Bishop Latino will lead the traditional Corpus Christi pro-cession following the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Other parishes are invited to hold pro-cessions as well.

Jackson Sets 5th Bishop’s Ball for June 4

The Diocese of Jackson’s Bishop’s Ball presented by Catholic Charities is scheduled for June 4 at The Coun-try Club of Jackson.

Honorees at the 5th annual event are John Marshall Grower, recipient of the Samaritan Award; Deacon Scott Thomas, who will be ordained to the priesthood the next day; and the nine diocesan seminarians. The event is set for 6:30 p.m. at The Country Club of Jackson and features dinner, a live auction and a themed basket raffle. The Raphael Semmes ‘Combeaux’ will entertain at the re-ception, with vocalist Jewel Bass and her band, These Days, providing the evening’s entertainment.

Tickets are $75 per person, with pro-ceeds benefiting all programs of Catholic Charities for Children.

Grower is founder of the Catholic Foundation, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Diocese Rep-resentative and member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepul-cher of Jerusalem. He also is a founding member of the law firm Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes PLLC in Jackson.
