PRINCIPAL’S REPORT In the last week we have had several opportunities to see

how our students excel. The P&C art show and celebration

of the Our New England Table cookbook provided the

opportunity to display a wide variety of artworks by each

student. Those in attendance were treated to wonderful

performances by the school orchestra and strings group.

Our thanks go to the organising committee of this special

event.

On the weekend, I was privileged to attend one of the New England Sings! performances at Lazenby Hall.

Congratulations go to the students from Armidale City

Public School who were involved in the angelic massed choir

– you excelled with honour. Our thanks go to the teachers

and parents who supported the students through rehearsals

and the performance. This is a magnificent opportunity for

the students to work with high quality musicians,

conductors and composers.

This week we recognise the outstanding work of teachers

as World Teachers Day is celebrated on Friday, 26

October. Teachers are professional people who care for

and know their students. They work hard to ensure that

the best learning opportunities are provided to each

student.

At Armidale City Public School, our students have access to

many opportunities beyond the classroom, such as chess,

debating, public speaking, excursions, Tournament of Minds,

dance, gardening and participation in events such as New England Sings! and Schools Spectacular. It is only through

teachers giving their own time, and on top of their teaching

load, that our children have these wonderful opportunities

and more. We are fortunate that we also have a dedicated

band of parents who support the teachers when fundraising

or transportation is required. Please take the time to

consider the efforts of our teachers. Throughout the year

you may show your appreciation with a note, consider the

workload of teachers and book an appointment time to have

a chat, or offer assistance when needed or simply say

‘thank you’.

Over the next few weeks, we will be planning for the 2019

school year. To help us determine the number of classes

required, parents are asked to let the school know as soon

as possible if your child is currently in Kindergarten to Year

5 and will not be attending Armidale City Public School next

year. If you are aware of any child who is intending on

attending Kindergarten at our school and you are not sure if

they have enrolled, we also ask that you contact the school

so that we can follow up.

This term we have experienced a spike in the number of

people contracting tummy bugs. There are a number of

viruses that can cause diarrhoea or vomiting. Please seek

medical assistance if your child develops a rash, shows signs

of dehydration or the symptoms continue beyond a couple

of days.

Hand washing after using the toilet and before eating is the

best method of reducing the spread of diarrhoea and

vomiting. Children should not be attending school if they

have diarrhoea or vomiting. Please send a note to explain

the reason for absences or ask for a medical certificate if

you take your child to see a doctor.
