Traditional LST radiator casing designs are
fixed boxes and are difficult to access, with
internal cleaning involving complete
disassembly. Many current radiator guards
are heavy and awkward to lift, cleaning staff
require the assistance of several
maintenance personnel and the whole
process of cleaning a radiator casing is slow
and costly.

The problem of accessing inside of LST
radiators for cleaning and maintenance has
been an issue for service providers for many
years.
The Association of Healthcare Cleaning
Professionals (AHCP) recommends that
minimum cleaning frequencies for radiators
are:

Budgets cuts and understaffing make it
difficult to maintain recommended cleaning
schedules, with internal cleaning rarely taking
place. This creates a greater risk to both end
users and providers, with potentially higher
infection rates.
Low surface temperature (LST) radiators
harbour dirt. The convection heating process
draws in particles, lint and other
contaminants and then re-distributes these
particles in the air.
An undisturbed casing provides ideal
conditions for the growth and distribution of
dirt, spores and bacteria, greatly increasing
the risk of infection. Therefore, environments
such as hospitals, care homes and schools,
require a product that allows for fast and
effective cleaning.

As a key part of the low surface temperature
offer, Contour Casings has developed a
specialist range of LST radiators for use in
secure environments such as mental health
facilities and prisons, where reducing the risk
of potential ligature points is of paramount
importance.
According to the 2005 mortality statistics,
54% of all 3172 suicides in England & Wales
were by hanging, and there are as many as
ten times more attempted suicides every
year.
As death from hanging can often occur
when an individual is not fully suspended,
the inspection of psychiatric wards and cells
for potential ligature points should focus on
fixtures and fittings at all heights. Grilles and
external TRV’s in LST radiators pose
particular danger.
Ligature points on Contour Casings anti-

been identified and addressed.

With the recent rise in the awareness of so
called ‘Superbugs’ such as MRSA and
E.coli, the issue of Healthcare Acquired
Infection (HAI) has never been higher in the
public and political consciousness.
The threat of bacteria cross-contamination
and contracting an infection is particularly
high in healthcare environments, where there
is an abundance of bacteria and a large
number of people with low immunity levels
confined to a small space.
Obvious ways of passing on infection are via
proximity or direct contact with contaminated
surfaces.

This anti-ligature LST radiator, for use in secure units and mental health facilities, has a
floor mounted design which enhances structural integrity. This radiator also incorporates
several specific design features:
■ Unrivalled access for internal cleaning or routine maintenance. Patented front door (UK
Patent No: 2 410 544) lies flat on floor, enabling quick access without complete door
removal. Open hinge arrangement allows simple removal of door if required.
■ A secondary expanded metal mesh (to IP31 specification) is welded behind all grilles to
prevent items 3.0mm in diameter or greater being inserted.
■ Conical anti-ligature TRV shroud with viewing window enables building users to control
radiator temperature easily, whilst reducing the ligature risk of an exposed TRV.

Type 12 or Type 22 as specified) and the option of
an anti-ligature TRV shroud and 9231-63 Herz

9210-13 Herz internal TRV kit.
■ An optional rotary valve is available.

The anti-ligature LST wall mounted radiator has been developed for use in secure units
and mental health facilities, it incorporates several specific design features:
■ Unrivalled access for internal cleaning or routine maintenance. Patented front door (UK
Patent No: 2 410 544) lies flat on floor, enabling quick access without complete door
removal. Open hinge arrangement allows simple removal of door if required.
■ A secondary expanded metal mesh (to IP31 specification) is spot welded behind all
grilles to prevent items 3.0mm in diameter or greater being inserted.
■ Conical anti-ligature TRV shroud with viewing window enables building users to control
radiator temperature easily, whilst reducing the ligature risk of an exposed TRV.
■ Anti-ligature base plate to secure the underside of the guard.

The Trionic LST range comprises single
and double convector radiators, in four
heights and lengths from 600mm to
2000mm.

The Trionic LST cover is designed to
accommodate a standard Kermi Classic
Radiator with Bottom-Opposite-End (BOE)
connections. All standard connections are
1/2" BSP. Kermi Type 11, 12 & Type 22 steel
panel convector radiators are made from
steel plate St.12.03. Bead deviation
33.3mm. Overlapping factory fitted top grille
and end panels.

Kermi radiators are supplied with two fully
concealed brackets which are suitable for
wall mounting. For the 1800mm long emitter
a third bracket is included.
CCoovveerr
Covers are manufactured from 1.5mm Zintec
mild steel. The leading edges of the covers
have a 25mm radius, resulting in a
strengthened section with rolled top front
and large safe radius bullnosed corners.
Covers are also available in 2mm Aluminium,
making them non-corrosive and suitable for
use in wet rooms and other such
environments.
FFiinniisshh
Kermi radiators come with a high gloss two-
coat powder coating finish. They are
degreased, iron phosphated and primed
with cathodic dip-coating (KTL) then electro-
statically powder coated (EPS) in
accordance with DIN 55900-FWA. The
evenly coated paintwork is emission-free,
environmentally friendly and without drips.
Colour: Kermi-white (similar to RAL 9016).
Covers are finished in an electrostatically
applied and oven cured polyester coating to
provide an attractive and durable finish. The
standard finish is satin white RAL 9010.
Other RAL or B.S. colours can be provided.
The cover finish incorporates BioCote®, the
patented anti-microbial coating, which helps
prevent the growth of harmful bacteria,
including MRSA and E.coli, reducing the risk
of hospital acquired infections.
OOuuttppuuttss
Kermi Radiator heat outputs are tested to
EN442, relating to a water temperature of
75º/65ºC and a room temperature of 20ºC.
Test results for each model are available on
request for Delta T 60.
TTeessttiinngg
Each Kermi radiator is individually tested.
Test pressure: 13.0 bar. Operating Pressure:
10.0 bar. Certified to DIN ISO 9001
standard. The construction design
corresponds to the BAGUV guidelines.

All radiators are manufactured under a BS
EN ISO 9001: 2000 quality system accepted
by BSI.

Contour Casings offer a wide range of radiator covers suitable for use in a variety of
applications. Supporting the range is a comprehensive service package comprising of free site
surveys and a supply and fit facility. Every radiator casing incorporates the following design
features; radius edges, safety grilles, slim line design, one-piece construction, BioCote®
protection and optional cut-outs. Anti-ligature features can be incorporated for application in
secure environments; other bespoke options are also available.
PPiippee CCaassiinngg
To complement the safe surface temperature range, Contour Casings also supply and fit
Contour-Ply pipe casings. The 8mm thick commercial range is designed to withstand the
rigours of demanding environments such as hospitals, clinics and schools. The 5mm
domestic range is suitable for care homes and other low traffic areas. Contour-Ply is available
in a wide range of sizes and profiles. As standard it is supplied in a high-quality white
melamine finish, other finishes are available.
MMaanniiffoolldd GGuuaarrddss
The Contour Casings Manifold Guard provides a cover for exposed manifolds to under-floor
heating systems. Access to the interior of the casing for maintenance and cleaning is
facilitated by a patented front door (UK Patent No: 2 410 544) which lies flat on floor. The
open hinge arrangement allows simple door removal if required. A selection of quarter-turn
locks is also available.

The anti-ligature ceiling grille from Contour Casings has been developed for application in
secure environments, such as mental health facilities and prisons. Designed to conceal ceiling
fans and ventilation systems, this product can be manufactured in a variety of sizes and
shapes. The anti-ligature mesh fixed behind the grille reduces the availability of ligature points,
while security fixings help to eliminate tamper points. The BioCote® anti-microbial additive in
the paintwork reduces the risk of bacteria and the spread of infection.

Contour Casings design and manufacture an extensive range of Aluminium fascia and soffit
profiles to almost any size or shape, including curved, bullnose and elliptical designs. Sections
can be made to match existing profiles and brackets and carcassing can be supplied to
reduce installation time, making them the perfect choice for both refurbishment and new build
projects. The “secret-fix” panel eliminates the presence of visible fixings, producing a
seamless and uninterrupted soffit line. Contour Casings’ range of fascia and soffit systems
can be tailored to yield both a contemporary or traditional look.

The Contour Casings floor ducting system is a complete product line of galvanised steel flush
floor ducting for laying pipework in screeded floors. This product is available with lids and a
complete range of accessories, making it suitable for all types of refurbishment and new build
projects. Designed to comply with byelaw 58-(1) of the Water Act and including a plywood
coverboard which can be simply removed to allow easy access to pipe work, Contour
Casings’ floor ducting eliminates the need for expensive and time consuming shuttering.

Contour Casings are able to offer a comprehensive range of column casings for use in a wide
selection of applications. The column casings range comprises an assortment of covers
suitable for both internal and external purposes and is available in a variety of shapes, sizes
and finishes. Materials include; Aluminium casings, glass reinforced polymer casings, glass
reinforced gypsum casings and preformed plywood casings. Column cladding is supplied pre-
finished and factory assembled to speed up fitting and can be provided on a supply only or
supply & fit basis.

designed to produce a high-quality and professional finish to all types of walls and parapets.
The wall coping system incorporates a number of outstanding features to combine a superior

of handling the most extreme weather, while the concealed fixing system yields a sleek finish.
Weather-proofing is facilitated via weather sealing gaskets, preventing the ingress of water,
while integral sealing pads eliminate wind-rattle. The all-aluminium construction reduces the
weight load on the wall and removes the possibility of corrosion.
