Though some may scoff, that does not change the fact of God’s promise.

America is under attack today. The public school system from kindergarten through the universities have removed God, the Bible, prayer, and biblical principles. The school system and many teachers and professors deny the creation account as given in the Bible. Peter warns 2,000 years ago about three areas people will deny. Peter said people would be “willingly ignorant” of creation, the world-wide flood, and a future judgment. Peter ’s prophecy is completely fulfilled in this generation. There has been no greater time of attack in history against creation as there has been since Darwin’s theory of evolution in 1859. Though the world will deny God, creation, and a future judgment, Peter reminds us that God has promised something. Read II Peter 3:8-10. What is the promise of God? In this scripture, the promise is the return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the judgment that will occur during this time. People will scoff and laugh, but God has promised He will return. God will judge the world just like in Noah’s day.

10The Lord’s Promise

THE BIBLE WAY TO HEAVEN

Realize That God Loves You. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).

The Bible Says That All Men Are Sinners. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory to God.” (Romans 3:23).

God’s Word Also Says That Sin Must Be Paid For. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

The Good News Is That Christ Paid for Our Sins. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

We Must Personally Pray and Receive Christ by Faith as Our Personal Saviour. The Bible Says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

God will keep His promise of judgment. Where will you be on judgment day?

Your Thoughts

Think About It:

God’s infinite mercy delays the coming of

the Lord.

Think About It:

All that matters at this point is what

you have done with Jesus Christ.

The Delay (8-9) The scoffers that Peter has been referring to say in verse four, “Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” The world counts the delay of Christ’s return as proof that He will not come. Many use this as their reason to say that God does not exist. Others use this to say He does not care about the affairs of man or that there will be no future judgment. Read verse eight. God is not bound by time. He is always present. What may feel like an eternity to humans is really nothing to God. We are bound by the clicking clock. God is not.

Why the seeming delay? Even some Christians may begin to wonder why He has not come back yet. Does a delay mean the promise has not been kept? No, not at all. What God has promised He will carry out. History proves that God keeps His promises.

The seeming delay is because of the mercy of God. II Peter 3:9 says “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Time has nothing to do with it. People and souls has everything to do with the delay. God wants all men to be saved. Read I Timothy 2:3-4. God does not want any to perish in hell, though some will by their own free will. God gave His Son for the whole world to be saved from hell. All they must do is believe in Him and call upon Him to save them. God desires that all men repent. Repentance is a turning away from sin and toward God.

“Grow in the Knowledge of God” a Study in II Peter Lesson 10

God has promised that Christ will return. Jesus Christ promised that He would return. Read John 14:1-4 and Acts 1:11. The day is coming regardless of what man may say. Notice that this day comes suddenly. The Bible refers to it coming, “as a thief in the night”. This means suddenly and when least expected. This verse is pointing to the second coming of Christ after the rapture of the church. This day brings wrath, judgment, and destruction. Take time to read Revelation 19:11-21:1. This is when God will pour out His wrath on unbelievers in judgment. The day of the Lord is referring to the millennial reign of Christ. This period starts with a battle and ends with a battle. The day of the Lord is to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Day (10)

Peter gives amazing details into the end of the world events. Many movies and books have been written trying to depict how the world will end. Peter, a rough fisherman, explains in scientific detail the unfolding of the end of the world. The heavens will pass away with a great noise. The elements will melt with fervent heat. Elements are what make up matter which we refer to as atoms. Atomic bombs get their energy from untying atoms which in turn produce a great force. Peter knew nothing of atoms and atomic bombs, yet 2,000 years ago he wrote about what we now know by science. The earth will be destroyed by a powerful force greater than the atomic bombs dropped in WWII.
