ER message November 2012 Our Oktoberfest was a great success and we were packed to capacity. Thanks to Bill Adair and Rick Rheaume and all of the committee mem-bers for all the work and preparation efforts. Be sure and join us next year for more fun, Polka music, and German costumes!

I am happy to announce that our District audit results were excellent. We received compliments for our ledgers, internal auditing, business prac-tices, Safety, and Club management. A special thanks to the Treasurer, Secretary, Lodge Auditor, Trustees, committee chairs, and the Club Man-ager for all your work and preparation in the last year.

Our indoctrination received an annual rating of 93, the highest possible unless we were striving for a ritual contest entry. Thanks to Chairperson Sherill Donaldson for her work on the indoctrination/orientation commit-tee. Remember that if you are a sponsor of a new member, encourage family members to attend the orientation and the initiation to help spread the works of Elkdom to others.

We are encouraging volunteers to assist bartenders in the Lounge on Fri-days and for other busy special events as “Celebrity Bartenders”. By vol-unteering your service, you can boost interest in the Club while also sav-ing labor costs to help our bottom line. You do not have to be knowl-edgeable about Club operation or management to volunteer. Sign up in the Club or call me to volunteer, and the Club Manager will contact you for availability.

Join us at the lodge for our membership meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday night to be in on the operations and decisions of the Lodge. We have adopted shortened rituals, which greatly reduces the meeting time for both regular and initiation meetings. Come out and get involved to make our Lodge grow!

I cordially invite all members to join us at the Club for social events and other activities. Don’t forget Wednesday dinners and TGIF Friday. Check the Log for times and dates for all of our activities and join in the fun. These activities are opportunities for all of us to meet and get ac-quainted.

Fraternally, Toby Griner, [email protected], 939-3058

The Elk’s need your help and support! We need someone

to take over the responsibilities of BINGO. This function

has been a part of our Lodge for years and we want to con-

tinue this legacy. We need someone to step up and take

over this position when the great Patty steps down soon. If

you would like to take on this task please contact us.

If you missed the Oktoberfest you missed a great time had by all. I would like to thank Bill Adair and

Rick Rheaume for all the hard work along with everyone who worked to make this event such a great

success.

Many thanks go out to Jim Fix, Walter & Kay Zilka, Hans Offenborn, and Bill Adair for the donations

for the event. Thanks to all the brat cooks, and thanks to all the severs and cashiers.

Everyone had a great time with dancing, eating, and of course enjoying the German beer. We had a lot

of German costumes and everyone really looked great. Next year we plan to have Oktoberfest bigger

and better.

Our DD visitation went very well. Thanks to all cooks, servers and the ladies who provided deserts.

Our seafood chowder, bisque and gumbo cook off was wonderful. There were all types of seafood chow-

ders, bisque and gumbos. We had three that tie for first place and two that tied for second place. Win-

ners were Walter Zilka, Brenda Queenan, and Jeff Vaughan.

Congratulations to all winners.

Thanks to all for the hard work you do for your lodge.

Activity Chairperson

Oktoberfest 2012

Oktoberfest

If you missed the Oktoberfest you missed a great time. There were lots of brats, German potato salad, Cole slaw, sauerkraut, and pretzels to be had. The German beer was flowing thanks to Rick & Phil. German music was playing and people were dancing the polka and the chicken dance in their Lederhosen and Dirndl dress. Thanks to Bill Adair, he had everyone dancing. We had over 150 people who attended. The Lodge did very well and we sold 130 brats and 2 kegs of beer along with several bottles of wine. We grossed $1400.00. We had raffles and our very own Bill White won the beautiful Elk print donated by Bill Adair. Thanks to all that made this a great success. Activity Chairperson

Members are reminded that their spouses can obtain an identification card for $1.00. An ID card gives spouses access to the Lodge and eliminates the need for members to sign in their spouse each time they enter the Lodge. If I am not available to collect the fee, you can pay the bartender and I will leave the card behind the bar.

Members may not be aware that Holley-Navarre Elks Lodge has its own unique pin, which we sell for $3 each. We currently have a limited supply, so see the bartender to make a purchase.

Also, did you know that your membership card grants you access to all of the other Lodges throughout the United States. When you are out of town, think about visiting another Lodge and ask them if they have a pin for sale or trade one of ours. Some members enjoy collecting and trading Lodge pins, so you may want to pur-chase more than one. Many Lodges will even buy you free drink upon your visit if you let them know you are a visitor. Remember to sign their visitors log upon entering.

After our pins are exhausted we will need to order more. If someone is interested in creating a new design, please contact me. "See the cover of this issue of the Log for photo of our current pin." Kathy Schulte, Secretary

Elk’s Caring, Elk’s Sharing!!

Dear Member's of “The Great NWFL Elk's”,

This is a message about the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team coming to Destin on Nov. 3rd

that many of you have heard me mention recently. I think whatever we can do to show our support and

gratitude, is only fitting for all Elk’s, but especially in our NWFL District. I'm also sending a link to the

sponsorship page, and to the page that details all of the players, their injuries and what conflicts they

participated and were in injured in, all while protecting our great Nation and all it stands for. I'm open

to any ideas as to how we can show our support and/or participation. If nothing else, maybe even a ban-

ner that simply says, "The NWFL Elk’s Thank You for Your Service!"

Please let me know your thoughts. The Turner family will be attending this, and our goal is to get as

many supporter's to come out and cheer them on. Just take a moment to review this link with the biog-

raphies of these brave player's. You will most likely be shocked - as I was - to see how many were born

in the mid to late 80's! No matter their ages, or their injuries though, you cannot miss the fact that they

all are proud and smiling! They clearly define what courage, commitment, pride and patriotism stands

for in every sense of each of those words. Here are their biographies, followed by the event information,

followed by the link for Sponsorships. Please see all: Thank You, Jim White

The Holly-Navarre Elk's Lodge "Food for the Hungry" program was introduced and approved by the lodge on August 2, 2011. In this program, the Elk's Lodge will partner with the Billory Bread of Life-Food Pantry to provide food for families and individuals located within the Holly-Navarre area. Today, we have become the primary food supplier for this program and will shortly expand our committee by including an annual "Turkey Shoot”. This new "Turkey Shoot" addition will allow the Elk's to more directly impact the needy in our area by the direct participation of Elk's members.

To date, we have helped to provide food for between 40 and 60 families a month. These families do not have the income or resources to provide the necessary essentials for them and their children. Many of the people needing help are children of families where the bread winners have lost their jobs and can no longer provide basics.

The food for our program is collected through a number of Elk’s activities. The committee has food baskets at the lodge and we ask that each member bring a food item each time they visit the lodge. Also, we have had a number of charity night parties and auctions to raise funds for the food pantry. In addition, we receive monthly contributions from the Elk's lodge and individual members to purchase food and supplies for the program. So far in 2012 we have collected over 1425 lbs. of food and over $1545.00 in contributions to purchase food and supplies.

Our plans for 2013 include continuing our program with increased support by Elk's members, expanding the activities to include more programs like the" turkey shoot" and introducing new activities to raise funds and food for our "Food For The Hungry" program.

Committee Chairman Lyle Cater
