The South Fork of the Snake River
The Lodge at Palisades Creek fronts one of America’s great fly fishing
rivers, the South Fork of the Snake River. Widely regarded as the finest
native cutthroat trout river in the nation, the South Fork’s crystal clear
waters are also filled with rainbows, cutbows and prodigious brown trout.
In addition to a fish population estimated at 7,000 fish per mile, local
wildlife includes moose, elk, deer, river otter and even the occasional
grizzly bear. For the ornithologists among us, our valley is home to 126
bird species, which include trumpeter swans, ospreys, sandhill cranes,
blue herons and Idaho’s largest population of bald eagles.
Fed by Idaho and Wyoming alpine streams, the river runs through
tranquil Swan Valley with views backdropped by the Palisades of the
Snake River Range. The Snake River ecosystem is formed by deep
canyons, pounding waterfalls, islands and flood plains, all framed by
carpets of wildflowers and sprawling cottonwood forests. We look
forward to sharing this special river with you.
I sincerely
appreciate you
making sure
my son’s first
experience on
the river and at
the Lodge was
a great one.
He can’t stop
talking about
our next visit,
and as you
know, that is
music to my
ears. I have
already booked
our trip for
next year.

AccommodationsCome and relax in our luxuriously appointed rustic cottages, where you’ll
sleep soundly to the peaceful ebb and flow of the South Fork just steps from
your door. Each of our nine charmingly furnished cottages sleeps two and is
completely self contained and secluded on our park-like landscaped grounds,
yet all within easy walking distance to the lodge, fly shop and Liar’s Den.
Perfect for families or small groups, the South Fork House is a spacious
two-bedroom, two-bath A-frame cabin that sits directly on the South Fork
with an incredible private deck overhanging the river.
Lodge rates include all meals, beverages and amenities, as well as
favorable rates for guided fishing. Guests also enjoy the use of the Liar’s
Den, which is located beneath our Orvis-endorsed fly shop. Featuring a
full bar, library and gaming tables, this space can easily accommodate
groups, business conferences and special events.
FishingOur guides, who all reside in
the area and live to fly fish,
know how to lead and assist
you to maximize the thrills
and profound satisfaction
of the fly fishing experience
here on the South Fork of
the Snake River. The Lodge
at Palisades Creek has five
different sections of the South
Fork available for guided
fishing trips, traversing a total
of 55 miles of unparalleled
trout waters.
The South Fork is an extremely productive
fishery, hosting native Yellowstone cutthroat,
rainbow, hybrid (cutbow) and brown trout. We
often catch trout over 20 inches, but most fish
fall into the 15-17 inch range. The season starts
with nymph fishing in the early summer, then
transitions to dry fly fishing by the end of June
and through September. Throughout the summer,
generous hatches of mayflies, stoneflies and
caddis occur regularly. As the season progresses,
grasshoppers appear in great numbers along the banks. Fall offers great dry fly and
streamer fishing. This is one of our favorite times of the year with the changing leaves,
mild temperatures and wildlife galore. Whatever the season, your fishing trip will be
tailored to your ability and sense of adventure, whether floating or wading.
Food & DrinkBreakfasts served in our Cowboy Bar are a great way to start the day. In addition to
a cornucopia of healthy fresh pastries and juices, just tell us your ideal breakfast and
we’ll make it to order. Chocolate chip pancakes? Lox and bagels? No problem.
Lodge guests regularly rank our lunches as the “Best in the West.” Picnic-style
servings are cleverly prepared and sent with guests in individual coolers for their
day of fishing or hiking.
The Lodge at Palisades Creek serves hearty gourmet dinners prepared nightly and
served by the chef and his professional staff. Beautifully presented entrées are
accompanied by locally grown organic vegetables and fruits, irresistible calorific
desserts and elegant wines. We are also proud of our famous weekly barbecue,
offering homestyle cooking in a casual outdoor setting on our beautiful deck. After
dinner, stroll over to the Liar’s Den for a variety of relaxing activities and relate the
day’s tallest tales over a nightcap.
With its own private deck overlooking
the casting pond, the Liar’s Den
features a fully stocked bar that is
available to our guests at any time.
For those who need to cheer on their
favorite team, we are happy to serve
full meals in front of the satellite TV. Its
extensive library with comfy couches
and chairs also make this an ideal
space to spend relaxing moments
throughout your day or evening.
Intimate yet spacious, the Liar’s Den
can accommodate corporate groups,
gatherings and wedding receptions.
Other ActivitiesBeyond the world-class fly fishing on the
South Fork and other area trout streams,
our corner of the West offers an amazing
variety of recreational opportunities.
Right from the lodge, guests can hike,
mountain bike or ride horseback into the
mountains to take in the solitude, scenery
and wildlife.
We also offer structured and private
customized tours into nearby Yellowstone
and Grand Teton National Parks that are
sure to create memories you will treasure
for a lifetime. Scenic floats and whitewater
rafting on the Snake River in Jackson Hole
can be easily combined with a morning
or afternoon in Grand Teton National Park
or an expedition into the town of Jackson,
Wyoming, to explore its variety of quality
shops, museums, bars and restaurants.
