PlesiosaurThe Loch Ness Monster is thought to be a Plesiosaur, or in other words, a dinosaur that survived whatever destroyed the rest of the dinosaurs. There is thought to be more than just one Nessie (Loch Ness Monster) to exist. A Japanese fishing boat found a corpse of a plesiosaur in the ocean just off the coast of Japan. The interesting thing is it hasn’t decayed yet, implying that it is days old.

ChampAnother such creature thought to

exist is Champ, the Loch Ness Monster of Virginia. Champ is said to live in Lake Champlain. The sightings of Champ go all the way back to the Native Americans that lived there. They called the creature they saw

“Tatoskok”. Even Samuel de Champlain, the man who mapped out lake Champlain, said he saw “A 20-foot serpent thick as a barrel,

and a head like a horse“.

SonarThe Webster's Dictionary Defines Sonar as ‘A method for detecting and locating objects submerged in water by echolocation’.

Robert Rines, a Nessie Hunter, used sonar to look for the Loch Ness Monster. While he was using sonar, he found a group of fish trying to run away from what it seemed like a huge animal. Him and his team tracked the animal with an underwater camera and saw a greenish brown skin-like coat, a tail, and some huge fins, all moving incredibly fast.

This is what they saw...

Sonar Cont...In 1975, Robert Rines and his crew were at another expedition. After setting up some underwater camera rigs and sonar devices, close-up underwater photos were taken of an animal. These pictures show a head and body of a creature in remarkable detail.

Tim Dinsdale’s Film

Taken in April 23, 1960, Tim Dinsdale caught a dark object moving along the lake. Some believe this object in the water to be a fishing boat or a big fish. But some base there belief in Nessie on this film. It is hard to tell what it really is, because of the fact that back in the mid 1900s, the portable cameras were not very clear.

The Loch Ness

Loch Ness is the deepest

body of water in Europe with a depth of over 227 meters. It

is 23 miles long and 2

miles across.

That’s like standing 2.5 football fields

up then sticking them

in a lake!

A Respected Creature

Not only is the Loch Ness monster one of the most well known unsolved mysteries, but it is also one of

the most cherished by people and movie companies alike. There has been countless movies

and T.V. shows released about Nessie. The most recent movie is The Water Horse.

A Hoax? One of the most famous photos of the

Loch Ness Monster is the Surgeons Photo. This depicts what looks like the head and body of a creature. The man who took this picture later said that he

attached an artificial head to a toy submarine, negating the factuality of the

photo.

A Slight BreezeSome scientist

believe that some of the sightings of the Loch Ness Monster

was due to the wind causing a

disturbance in the water.

Elephant?

Some believe the Loch Ness monster to be an elephant. This is thought because the head of the

elephant might look like a body and the trunk out of the water might

look like a head.

WoodThere are people who think that the

cause for all these sightings are due to some rotten wood floating to

the surface. When rotten wood ferments, it turns buoyant, but only

for a few seconds, before the oxygen reacts with the bacteria,

causing it to sink again. This picture indicates that a piece of wood could

look just like Nessie if you saw it from a distance.

In Conclusion

Some believe the beast to exist, some do not. There is so much evidence to prove that Nessie does exist, but so much to prove that

all the evidence is fake. Either way, it is a

legend that evokes curiosity and child-like

wonder in all of us.

So, do we think it’s real?
