College & Career Fair—2013 Hosted by EAST students
Bryland Young, Audrey Price,
Jazmon Guyton, and Kelli Collins,
our parents and students were
given an opportunity to learn
more about colleges and careers
at the Parent Conference night
last week. Representatives from
colleges and local merchants
were available to help our stu-
dents. “I think lots of good ques-
tions were asked and great in-
formation was exchanged. Look-
ing forward to it being even big-
ger and better next year.” said
Kelli Collins.

College Check List for Juniors Must Do: Take the toughest courses and study. Thus, pre-
pare for ACT
Schedule ACT exam (s).
Take a CPEP class.
Get involved in community service through EAST and/or school
organization.
This will allow you legitimate community service hours on your
applications.
Provides a network of community leaders who will know you
and, perhaps, recommend you on applications.
Begin to research colleges:
Go on-line and really study some institutions. Consider those
institutions with good honors programs and/or the best pro-
grams of study that meet your intended path of study or intend-
ed career.
When you cut it to three or four, contact an actual live person
at their admissions office.
Get the person’s name.
Always use this person for questions and advice.
Make a connection!
Check the requirements for admission at each university in
which you are interested against your four-year plan and ac-
complishments. Make a plan to address things you need to add
to meet those requirements.
See if the college of your choice offers any scholarships to en-
tering freshmen. Again, check your transcript and credentials
against those required and make a plan to meet those require-
ments.
member) give them a list of your accomplishments, activities,
community service, and goals.

EAST students attend Pope County Drug Coalition Teen Leadership Summit
Branda Dugan, Saul Martinez, Gabriel Shalda, Harlee Childers, and Cade Wilks, along with approximately
50 representatives from others schools in the area, attended the
Teen Leadership Summit sponsored by the Pope County Drug Coali-
tion. The summit was over a two-day period at the Lake Point Confer-
ence Center in Russellville. The students worked together to under-
stand teen issues and ways they could change harmful behavior. The
Sand Lizard Coalition is developing plans to address the use of
smokeless tobacco as their main project. Cade was impressed with
the many ideas from other students about the issues that face teens
today. Saul mentioned that he gained a great deal of knowledge
about the high level of harm about challenges confronting students
today.
FBLA Talent Show and Other FBLA News The winners of the FBLA Talent show were Hannah Hooten and Rachel Hooten for their duet: Hallelu-
jah. Second place was won by Jessica Steele for Doing a Beat Box. Through the talent show proceeds,
the club raised $535, which will be shared
partially with Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Please see FBLA members as they are sell-
ing basketball donation cards for $1.00
each. Along with the Miracle Minute at the
basketball game in January, the members
hope to raise between $1200 and $1500
this year to go to ACH.
The DHS Student Council shared part of
their proceeds from the Power Puff Game
in the amount of $285.
Dardanelle FBLA has placed as a top three
