Homework Review – Lesson I

Reading Questions:• Explain why the covenant of Genesis 12:1-3 encapsulates

the whole of God’s purposes in the Bible.  It reveals God’s mission to redeem all peoples of the earth.

• Give an example of how a promise in the Bible can have a historical fulfillment, a “gospel” fulfillment, and an ultimate fulfillment. God’s promise to Abraham…historical fulfillment in his physical descendant, gospel fulfillment in Christ, and eschatological (ultimate) fulfillment in the destiny of all the redeemed.

The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s

household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will

bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you,

and whoever curses you I will curse; and all people on earth

will be blessed through you.”

Genesis 12: 1-3, NIV

Consider Abraham: “He believed God, and it was

credited to him as righteousness.” Understand,

then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. The scripture foresaw that God

would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the Gospel

in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” So those who have faith

are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.”

Galatians 3:6-9, NIV

“He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to

Abraham might come to the Gentiles

through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the

Spirit.”

Galatians 3:14, NIV

“You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for

all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed

yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you

are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are

Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Galatians 3:26-29, NIV
