TRANSCRIPT
T H E L I N K
Malachi
L ast Sunday, after three years, with a short break or two
along the way, and switching the series from the evening
to the morning (August 3, 2014), the sermon series on Luke
drew to an end. We began the series on March 17, 2013 with
Luke 1:1-4, “An Orderly Account.”
It has been a delight to study the life and ministry of Jesus as Luke
presents it. With the completion of Luke I have now preached
through all four of the Gospels. Completion, that is, of a series; one
can never “complete” any book of the Bible so as to be “done” with
it. With Luke we have scarcely scratched the surface. I reserve the
right to preach from Luke again at any time. But as a particular se-
ries, it has reached an end.
Which raises the question, what next? What’s next is the book of
Malachi — the final book of the Old Testament. Malachi is one of
the so-called “minor prophets.” Minor in length, but not minor in
importance — or relevance.
Marriage concerns, money problems, bad religion, corrupt minis-
ters, various social problems, disillusionment and discouragement
among the people of God — sound familiar? They do, but I am re-
ferring to Malachi’s time.
The book follows a distinct “disputational” format, in which God
asserts a truth to the people, the people question or challenge that
assertion, and then the Lord responds to that question or challenge.
I encourage you to read through the book a time or two — it’s just
four chapters — prior to or during the study. The format and the
topical themes will be plain.
Where Luke spanned years, our study of Malachi will be much
briefer — a matter of weeks. This will be my first time to preach
through Malachi, but I have had my eye on it for some time. I am
looking forward to studying and preaching Malachi. Please pray for
me that the Lord would bless my preparation and our times together
in the word to his glory and to our growth in grace.

Jim and Shari Whittle
May, 2016
Jim and Shari are missionaries with Equipping Leaders International
serving primarily in India. They have been married for 34 years and
live in Georgia but take 2-4 week trips to India to train pastors,
Christian leaders and their families. Their goal is to equip Christian
leaders to impact their world and to multiply the number of Christian
leaders and teachers in India. Christian ministry in India and the
number of pastors and leaders are booming. There is a great need for
training of these men in solid reformed theology.
Their Recent Ministry in India
Conferences on marriage, which tends to be an avoided sub-
ject in India.
Work with and train pastors and leaders in worship, church history, ministries to children including
over 5,000 children each week in Delhi in after school programs, and planting churches.
Continue to train 100s of leaders in Doctrine of Christ and Living by Grace.
Jim’s Recent Prayer Requests and Praises
Praise for the large number of Indian churches being planted and significant fruit from the Jesus film
and follow-up discipleship.
Pray for more laborers to go with Equipping Leaders to train pastors and leaders of these churches -
15 to 16 teams need staffing in 2016.
Pray for transformation of the pastors and leaders, and praise that India is booming with new believ-
ers and opportunities.
Praise that their marriage conference went well earlier this year and for lasting marital fruit.
Pray for safety for Jim and his team as they travel to and from India several times this year.
Praise for grown kids who love Jesus and for partners who love mission!
Please pray for Shari and me - that our love for Christ would continue to grow and that our prayer
lives would deepen.
Please pray for continued open doors of ministry in India. Pray for wisdom to discern which leaders
to help.
Please pray for the persecuted church around the world, especially the victims of ISIS.
Please pray for our partners in India - Vijay Raju, Paul Mathews and Finny Phillips, Daniel Kumar,
