An Independent Public School
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Dear Parents and Carers, The end of the school year is upon us. I was talking with one of our junior primary children the other day and she said that she couldn’t believe that school was almost over and that she felt that she only started like two weeks ago! The temptation to say “Wait until you get to my age if you think time flies at your age!” was huge, but would have been meaningless. I hope that all of you will have a joyous time over the Christmas/New Year period and find those ever so fleeting moments of quality family time to enjoy and celebrate. If you are travelling, I wish you safe passage. If you are staying around Bunbury, be watchful for those who see road safety as someone else’s responsibility. I look forward to seeing you in the new year. STAFF RETIREMENTS Mrs and Mrs Piparo, our Languages teachers, will be re-retiring (they came out of retirement to help us maintain the Italian language programme at our school three years ago. We have found a new teacher of the Italian language, Mrs Florencia Levy, to take over the programme. I welcome Florencia to our school and look forward to working with her. Mrs Dani Wallis and Miss Karen Dymock are both retiring as of next year. Both teachers have been at our school for a number of years and have contributed to help make our school one of distinction. I thank them for their tireless work with the children. THANKYOU MORNING TEA Just as I thank the staff for their work, I also thank our parents and volunteers for the help and support they provide during the year. Without such support, teaching would be much harder than it normally is. Our annual thank you morning tea was organised and co-ordinated by the office staff and I thank them for this. Parent helpers and volunteers are an important part of the fabric of our school and I look forward to many of you continuing on or joining this special bunch of people. It is a great way to support the children and the classroom teacher and give back to the school community
PESENTATION AND GRADUATIONS ASSEMBLIES Another thing that we are grateful for is the support that parents and local businesses give our Presentation and Graduation Assemblies. Mrs Palermo co-ordinated a wonderful Presentation Assembly last week that saw awards given to children in the years 1 to 6 classes as well as some wonderful musical performances. Mrs Dillon co-ordinated the Graduation Assembly for our year 6 children that was, as usual, a great success. I thank them both (and Mrs Raffan) for the thought they put in to making each assembly something special for the children. SDERA AWARD Bunbury Primary received its Silver School Drug Education and Road Aware (SDERA) Award. The award recognised the hard work and whole-school approach to resilience, road safety, and alcohol and drugs education. This year Bunbury PS was able to showcase some of the Road Safety school work and achievements by our school. The award was presented at a ceremony in Perth. Mrs Tennen t -Brow and Mrs A l len represented and accepted the award on behalf of our school. MAKER PROJECTS GRANT Our school was successful in obtaining a one-off grant of $5000 to support the establishment of a maker space for students to access and work on STEM-related skills and activities. Maker projects aim to foster creativity, inquiry based learning and technologies POETRY AWARD Bunbury Primary School received an award for being the Most Enthusiastic School in the Roland Leach Poetry competition. The school entered over 130 student entries. Reading, writing and understanding poetry is an important component of a good English programme. Poetry seems to be something that has lost favour over the last decade or so, but we (along with all schools) are hoping to breathe new life into it and help children enjoy the imagery and emotion that it can generate.

BUNBURY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR AND SENIOR BANDS
Recently we had a visit from Mr Ogden and the Junior and Senior Bands from Bunbury Senior High School. The whole school en-joyed a variety of songs and got to see many types of instruments
being played. Many of the musicians were Ex-Bunbury primary students and it was a real thrill to see them perform.
A special note of thanks from Mr Ogden Thanks to you all for having us perform at your school today. Our students had a great time performing with many returning to their primary school. I hope they have inspired their younger peers to take up music in the future
CHAMPIONS CUP BASKETBALL On November 21st our All Star Boys Basketball team travelled to Perth to compete in the Champions Cup. As winners of the Eaton Slam Series competition held in Term 3, our team was invited to play at the Bendat Basketball Centre against other Slam Series winners from across the state. The team was dominant all day, finishing on top of their pool and earning a place in the Grand Final where they were eventual victors and cup winners! Congratulations to Seth, Mason, Zeke, William, Xavier, Cameron, Liam, Tom and Max for playing to the very best of their abilities and bringing home the cup. A special mention to
Jessie who contributed to their local win but was unable to represent in Perth. It was a great day, with a lot of fun had by all. The boys should be commended for the sportsmanship, team work and persistence they display every game. They should be extremely proud of
their efforts, and their undefeated record throughout the entire series. A big thank you to our parents and families for your assis-tance and support during both tournaments. Mrs Piavanini PIZZA MAGNIFICO!!
To celebrate Italian culture the students from years 1-6 were invited to eat delicious organic pizza made in an authen-tic wood fired oven. The response was very positive, with most students com-menting that the pizza was magnifico!
