The Pastor Search Committee has officially kicked off our invitation process to potential pastor candidates. Information about the pastor position and the application process can be found on the church web site. We have established a special e-mail

address ([email protected]) and a dedicated mailing address (First Baptist Church Pastor Search, P. O. Box 490, West Point, VA 23181) to receive applications. If you know anyone with an interest in this position please direct them to the web site. Please be in continued prayer for the Pastor Search Committee, the prospective candidates, and the church membership that our collective efforts may be in accordance with God’s plan for First Baptist Church.

At the last quarterly business meeting, the church voted to adopt new mission and vision statements. Our previous mission statement

“Loving God Through Worship; Loving Others Through Jesus” was replaced with “Sharing the Light, Love, and Hope of Jesus Christ”. Our new vision statement is as follows:

At First Baptist, we purpose to: CALL people to faith in Jesus Christ CELEBRATE God’s presence among us through worship CONNECT people together in caring relationships COMMIT to growth in the love and knowledge of God, and COMMISSION each member to serve and witness. We are in need of a new church logo that features our new mission statement. If you would like to submit a logo to the church, please contact the church office at (804) 843-2484, or email your logo to [email protected]. The logo in use now is a temporary logo that Phillip quickly put together to be used in church publications until a new logo is chosen.

A table has been set up in the hallway outside the Pastor’s office to place your shoebox gifts on. Please remember to include a $7.00 donation to help with

shipping costs for each shoe box given. We will have a service of dedication for the shoeboxes collected on Sunday morning, November 17. Please have your

shoeboxes delivered to the church prior to that day.

Southern Baptist churches collect the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for the sole purpose of supporting missionaries sent by churches through the International Mission Board (IMB). Every penny of the offering goes to IMB’s overseas budget. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering provides the largest portion of IMB’s income — 54 percent.

Thanks to Southern Baptists, $149.3 million was given to the 2012 offering. It surpassed the previous year’s offering of $146.8 million by more than $2.4 million and marked the third-highest amount given in the offering’s

124-year history.

Last year, First Baptist Church gave well over the $5,500.00 goal that was set, giving over $8,000 to the 2012 Lottie Moon Offering. Because of this, our church was one of a small number of Southern Baptist churches in the nation that was awarded a certificate for making the “Manchurian Challege”: giving $100 or greater “per capita”. The Manchurian was the ship on which Lottie Moon made her ultimate sacrifice, dying of starvation on her way back home from China. Our goal this year is about 25% higher than last year’s goal. We pray that everyone will give generously to this very important offering.

My Hope America with Billy

Graham is a grassroots

effort to reach people across

the United States with the

Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Following a simple biblical

model, My Hope America

combines the reach and

excitement of a nationwide

media event with the power

of personal relationships. Under the guidance of their local pastors, Christians across the country will

open their homes to share the Gospel with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors through programs

featuring a new and powerful message from Billy Graham, dynamic music, and testimonies. Like the

Apostle Matthew, some will invite their guests into their homes or churches to learn about Jesus using

television or video, while others will gather at a coffee shop or the park to watch the program on a tablet

or smartphone.

The Strategy :

“Matthew and Friends” is the heart of this national evangelistic outreach. After accepting Jesus’ call to

follow Him (Matthew 9:9–13 and Luke 5:27–31), Matthew invited friends into his house to meet the

Person who changed his life. Through this strategy, Christians from thousands of churches will follow

these simple steps:

• LOOK AROUND and identify friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow students, and family who do

not know Jesus Christ as their Savior. Then write their names on a prayer list. LOOK UP and pray

every day for each person they listed.

• LOOK OUT for opportunities to build deeper relationships with these people.

• LOOK FORWARD to the event: Invite every person on their list, prepare their three-minute story,

and pray for God’s help as they invite guests to receive Jesus Christ.

• LOOK AFTER those who give their lives to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. My

Hope America will center around one week in November 2013, (November 7-10) when Christians

will invite these friends to their homes, or another familiar location, to watch the television or video

programs. They will then share their own story of how they met Jesus and invite their friends to pray

to receive the Lord Jesus Christ. Each host will follow up with new believers and encourage them to

become part of a local church.

Be sure to watch the broadcast from Billy Graham starting on Thursday, November 7 on TBN

(8:00 p.m. Eastern) or Fox News Channel (10:00 p.m. Eastern). Online resources are available at

http://myhopewithbillygraham.org/programs/. Additional resources and information can also

be viewed on our church website homepage at www.fbcwestpoint.org.
