Cunniff Pine Street Needs Help

The stove at the Cardinal Spellman Center at Holy Ghost is in disrepair. We are in need of purchasing a new stove. The Knight of Columbus in Whitman has offered to match any donation up to $2500.00 to replace the stove. All donations will be appreciated. Please make the check out to Holy Ghost and please let us know it is for the stove. Thank you for your help.

On December 21, The Cunniff Pine Street Inn Food Group served chili and many delicious homemade desserts to the guests at the Pine Street Inn. We also delivered 535 wrapped Christmas gifts of men’s and women’s clothing, many of which were given out that evening. The Pine Street Inn was most appreciative of the overwhelming generosity of our parishioners. The hooded sweatshirts and other outerwear donated were taken by the outreach staff at the Inn and distributed immediately to the needy on the streets. Thank you to all who contributed in bringing the Spirit of Christmas to those who are homeless. We would especially like to thank the many CCD students, CYO members, and their families who volunteered their time to wrap the tremendous number of gifts we received. We couldn’t have done it without you! Our food group will prepare and serve beef stew on Saturday, January 18. Donations of desserts would be greatly appreciated and may be left at the Cardinal Spellman Center any time after 10:30 on that Saturday. We wish all of our fellow parishioner’s joy and many blessings in the New Year.

Abington St. Vincent de Paul Giving Tree Once again we would like to thank you for your kindness and generosity this past Christmas season. We were able to assist 61 families with their Christmas gifts this year. All toys, clothing items, gift cards and monetary donations were greatly appreciated by the 118 children we served.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

PRO-LIFE PROCESSION WE NEED HELP January 22, 2020 is the 47th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade. As a result of this decision, there have been over 56,000,000 legalized abortions performed in the United States since 1973. The Respect Life Committee of our collaborative is planning a pro-life procession to be held at the 4:00PM Mass on January 18th at St. Bridget as well as the 10:30AM Mass on January 19th at Holy Ghost. The procession will honor the memory of the unborn and remind us how precious is the gift of life. WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS (ALL DIFFERENT AGES) TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESSION. If you or your child are interested, please call Colleen Booker at 781-878-0900 or email her at [email protected] and let her know which Mass you will be attending, Name, birth year and email address. We need 49 people for each Mass. Please consider volunteering.

“what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” Acts of the Apostles-Baptism of the Lord Have you ever realized when you listen to a Reading from the Acts of the Apostles that they were carrying on the work of Jesus after he rose from the dead and we are called to carry on the works of Jesus. These works are spoken of in our Collaborative prayer for Vocations. We ask God to inspire ourselves and the other members of our collaborative to do God’s will. In other words as God was with Jesus, God will be with us. God with those who are parents, God with the single person. God with us caring for children, caring for aging parents, caring with the poor. God with people both happy and struggling to be happy. To be willing to testify to the light as John’s Gospel told us Christmas Day ; “What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Maybe the following poem on Baptism will help us remember who we are called to be. The following poem from David Lougher may help you to remember who you are. As you step into the water, Led by Christ's own hand; Lay to rest the willful self, And live the life God's planned. As you go beneath the water, Turn away from sin; And let the Spirit fill you, With peace and joy within. As you rise up from the water, To new life that's true; Let Christ be at the centre, Of everything you do. As you step into the future, Listen for God's call; Be obedient to His voice, And yield to Him your all. As you face life's fiery trials, Do not be afraid; For Christ the Lord is with you, And He will be your Aid.

Archdiocesan Parish Family Baby Shower January 18th & 19th, 2020

This is our 35th Annual Baby Shower that provides materials for mothers to avoid abortion. Last October, Cardinal Sean spoke about you, ..." Donations provide much needed material support for mothers and babies served by Pregnancy Help ministry of our Pro-Life Office..." So if you are able, please bring an unwrapped baby gift to Mass. A Pack & Play will be set up downstairs and upstairs to receive your gifts. As always, a monetary donation is also appreciated to purchase supplies when different items have already been distributed. I am very grateful for your dedication to God's babies each year. We are still here for these babies and always will be. More info Call Lynn Kenn (508) 378-7431 or [email protected]

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities. Our Church leaders and pastors work tirelessly to serve our Church both within and well beyond the walls of our parishes, as is evidenced by the examples above and below.

Pine Street Inn: Fr. Frank Kelley, Fr. Bill Joy and Boston urban priests created what we know today as the Pine Street Inn. This local organization provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.

Rostro de Cristo: Fr. Jim Ronan founded this agency, which provides life-changing service opportunities for young adults to serve those on the margins in Ecuador. While continuing to shepherd Rostro, Fr. Jim Ronan also serves as pastor of St. Mary-St.Catherine of Sienna in Charlestown, where hundreds of families look to the parish food pantry for groceries.

Civic and Community Support: In Dorchester, Fr. Linh Nguyen, the pastor of St. Ambrose Parish, leads a strong and vibrant faith community while also providing civic support for his parishioners, many of whom came here from Vietnam with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

Fire Chaplaincy: Fr. John Unni of St. Cecilia’s in Boston and Fr. Dan Mahoney, pastor of St. Francis de Sales in Charlestown, serve our community as chaplains for the Boston Fire Department.

It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities for all of us.

Please support the special Christmas collection for our priests at Christmas Masses in your parish or at clergytrust.org.
