A Special Family MemberSomeone that’s really special to me is my great grandpa, Claire. He lives in the nursing home, Mulder’s, instead of living all by himself in his house in Viroqua. He fell last summer and that’s when he was moved into Mulder’s. It’s right across the street from my grandma’s house, so she can go over there and keep him company, instead of him being lonely all the time. Now that he’s in town all of our family can go visit him more often. We try to get over there frequently. When my great grandpa was young and healthy, he was a farmer. He hands are big like a basketball players, which helped him work hard. He always has a plaid shirt on tucked into his jeans when I see him. When we go and visit him, he always has something interesting to say. He will complain about the nursing home food, and how he’s sick of the “stringy green beans.” My great grandpa always worries about everyone, when he should be worrying about himself! No matter how he’s feeling he always asks me how school is, or how my sports are going. One time when he was really sick, my family went to visit him. He could tell right away who we were, and just smiled. This shows how caring he is. My great grandpa is a role model for me because he shows just how you should act. He’s ninety-five and is as happy as can be. He is a caring person, a hard worker, and is super cute. This is why my great grandpa is special to me and all of my family.

A Special HolidayA special holiday for me would be Christmas. On Christmas Eve I get to see most of my family on my mom’s side. Most of her family lives far away and we don’t get to see them often. One family lives in Madison, and only visits for a few holiday’s or in the summer. Another family lives all the way in South Dakota. Christmas is the only time we get to see them. Also during Christmas, my grandma cooks a huge dinner. She is one of the best cooks I know, so I’m always excited to eat. Her stuffing is my favorite. It is so delicious! I’m a little kid going to get ice cream, extremely cheerful and excited. Another thing about Christmas, is getting to give presents. I love seeing my cousin’s huge smile after they open a present. They are so happy you got them what they wanted and run over to thank you. It makes me feel good about myself that I could make them happy! Christmas is a time where I also get to spend many fun times with my mom, dad, and brother too. I do get to see them everyday, but at Christmas it’s a better bonding time. We give each other presents and then we all have a big breakfast together. We’re all happy, and me and my brother get along! Even though everyone on my dad’s side lives in town and we see them often, Christmas still is a lot of fun. Most of the time everyone gets along. Christmas has always been a family time for us, and the traditions will continue on into the future.

My NameI got my name from my mom. Her name was Sarah Morgan before she was married. She always loved the name Morgan. When she found out I was a girl she knew that’s what she was going to name me. My name means bright sea. It also means that you’re clever and creative. Most people with this name are as sensitive as your eyes to light once you’re in the dark for a long time. Morgan also describes outdoor people. They enjoy working outside in any weather, anywhere, as long as they get to enjoy the fresh air. They are also known to be scared of being criticized. They don’t like to be judged. They are scared of what others think of them, and what they’ll say. I think this sort of describes me, because I enjoy the outdoors. I love being out in the fresh air, mostly when it’s warm outside. I love being at the beach. I’m also clever and creative, and enjoy art. When people criticize me, it doesn’t bother me as long as it’s constructive criticism. Most of the time what people think about me doesn’t bother me, unless I really care about them, and we’re close. I think my name fits my personality. I also think almost all of those things describe me, there’s just a few that don’t. I like my name and there’s no other name i would want. Morgan fits me, and I couldn’t think of another name that would fit with my personality.

Favorite Childhood Toy! One of my favorite childhood toy was a car that you sat in and moved with your feet. There was a hole in bottom and you would walk with you feet. I was like the Flintstones! When i was young I would always be outside playing with that. It was yellow on the bottom part, and the top part that goes over my head was red. It was a very popular toy, many kids had it as a child. My parents said they couldn’t get me to come inside when it was time, because I loved playing with it so much!! Another one of my favorite toys was dolls. I loved to do their hair. I was a hair dresser. I would change their hair style every time I played with them. Whenever my aunt was over she would help me do their hair. She helped comb out all of the knots because I was too rough. I would also have them do different things every different time I played with them. Sometimes they would go to the park, out to eat, to a party, or they would just stay home. I would also bring them outside with me. My parents would barley ever have to entertain me. If they did they would just play dolls with me, or take me outside. They knew those were my two favorite toys so they always had them ready for me to play with. Other than those two toys I loved to play with sidewalk chalk, go on our swing set, or go in the sandbox. But no matter what toy I was playing with, I was most happy if I could be outside.

The Big Competition! I’m on the West Salem High School dance team. On January 26, 2013, we went to the regional competition in New Richmond. It was very nerve racking. The top five teams in our division were going to make it to state the next weekend. The competition was really strict. There’s so many rules you need to make sure your team follows. I never thought there would be so many rules to follow for a dance competition. Some of them are you need to have at least seventy-five percent of your team competing that you entered. Because of that our coach, Ms. Friell, only entered ten dancers, and we only had eight perform. Another rule was that once your team gets on the floor you need to have already started with in thirty-seconds. Knowing that this competition was a really big deal I was as nervous as a fly in a spider’s web. I was also the only freshman competing. Before we performed I went over the dance a million times. I knew we would do great! We have been working on this dance since November! We could all do the dance in our sleep!! When we were on deck I could see all the people in the stands, there was a lot! But I knew if I looked up at the judges and no where else I would be fine! If I kept smiling the whole time, even if I messed up, it would go great. The dance did go awesome! A few people messed up our kick line, but they did the same thing, so it kinda looked like it was supposed to happen. At awards we were all super nervous, but knew we did the best we could. We all had a lot of fun dancing and that’s all that matters. We ended up not making it to state. We were super close though! Even though we didn’t make it, I am still super proud of my team and how awesome we did!

Going to Work! I work as a babysitter, for a few different families. During the summer I babysat two kids who live down the street from me. They’re five and seven. I babysat on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from seven in the morning to four at night. I would wake up in the morning get ready and walk over. It was always a peaceful walk, because almost no one was outside. It was also sunny and warm, because it was in the morning. Sometimes when I got to their house the kids wouldn’t be awake, so I would watch TV and wait for them to get up. When they did wake up I would make them some breakfast. After they were done eating, they always had something different they wanted to do. Sometimes we would go outside, or make a fort, or play hide and go seek. One of their favorites was playing Uno though. Reese loved Uno, she would’ve played it all day long with me, but Jake wanted us to come play with him. Another thing they loved was going to the pool. They were fish in the water! Neither one of them could go in the deep end, so we swam and swam where they felt comfortable. Reese loved to jump off the edge into my arms, but eventually she could jump without me there! I was so proud of her. The day she first jumped off without me, she couldn’t wait to tell her mom. She ran up to her when she got home and told her right away! It was adorable!! Another family I babysit for has two kids also. They are four and six. The little boys name is Caden, and the girls name is Isabelle, or Belle. The first time I babysat them they kept forgetting my name and called me babysitter. The second time I came they were waiting at the window for me! Stephanie, their mom, said they never wanted their parents to leave, but they asked her if they would leave so I could come over. Hearing that made me really happy. They are so cute, and I love what I do. It makes you really happy knowing you made an impact on their lives!

A Positive Story From SchoolIt was a Friday night football game this year. I was in the band room because we were doing pep band for the game. One of my friends tripped so I was laughing, but I didn’t think anyone else saw it. Turns out Taylor Thompson saw it too! She came over to me laughing and we laughed together about it. We were both laughing we were crying so hard. We couldn’t stop laughing! That night at the pep band we sat by each other and talked the whole night. She had surgery on her knee last spring because she tore her ACL, so she just got off crutches. She had a brace on her knee so she had troubles walking. Dani and I helped her out. We were already super close even though we just met. The next pep band we sat by each other again, and I could tell we would be best friends. We both went on the Florida trip for band and we hung out the whole time. We were like peanut butter and jelly. That was when we became very close. We both bought princess crowns and wore them around the parks. Where ever we went the workers would call us princess. Ever since then we have been inseparable. I have been able to tell her everything. She always makes me laugh and we have the best times together. I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. She makes my life so interesting. I’m always laughing when I’m around her. If we both wouldn’t have seen the girl trip we wouldn’t have met, and I wouldn’t have her around in my life.

A Time You Saw Someone Get Into TroubleIt was four years ago on the last day on school. I was done with fifth grade finally, and moving onto middle school! My Brother Caleb, Mya Jacobson, and I were walking home from school and Caleb got angry with me. I don’t remember why he was mad at me, but he was very angry. When we got home, he wouldn’t come in the house. He said he was going to run away to his friend Brad’s house. I told him he needed to come into the house because mom wanted us to stay home. He then swore at me, and started to run away. I chased after him and got him to run into the house instead. When I got closer to the house I heard ring ring! The phone was ringing! I answered it and it was my friend looking for a phone number. I didn’t know it, but I told her I would look it up in the phone book. During this Caleb went up to his room, and got his air soft gun. He came down stairs and my back was to him. He came three feet away from me and shot me in the lower back. It hurt a lot! It ended up leaving a welt! Mya grabbed the gun from him, and I told my friend I needed to go. I told Caleb to go to his room, but he wouldn’t listen to me! He went outside instead. I called my dad at work and told him what was going on. He said he wanted to talk to Caleb. I had to chase Caleb around our yard to get him to talk. Haley Dutton was looking at the house next to ours because it was for sale. She still brings this story up and laughs. Caleb finally talked to my dad. I could tell my dad was yelling at him. Caleb then went and sat in his room until my mom came home from school. He was like a prisoner. When my mom got home, she was furious! She yelled at him for a while, and told him he was going to stay in his room for a little longer. I just got out of school and was as happy as could be, but Caleb went and ruined it. Seeing him get in trouble didn’t make me feel bad for him, because I knew he deserved it!
