THE LETTERS OF SAINT PETER

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a

multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grum-

bling. Each one should use whatever gift he or she has received to

serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various

forms.” 1 Peter 4:8-10

We are blessed in Owensville to have places that offer hospitality

and service to a wide variety of people. I would like to highlight a

couple of these places.

The Senior Center offers care and hospitality to seniors in our

community. A nutritious and tasty lunch is offered for $4 for those

60 and over. If you are under 60, you can have lunch for $6.50.

Kindness is expressed toward all who walk through the door. Stop

by the Senior Center on First Street on a weekday around 11am,

and you will find a member of St. Peter’s enjoying conversation,

delivering meals to shut ins or serving cups of coffee. Hospitality

is offered with joy. If you would like to support the Owensville

Senior Center, you can do so by buying a ticket for the Third

Annual Dinner and Purse Auction at the White Mule on Thurs-

day, August 22 at 5:30pm. For reservations, call 573-437-3096 or

drop by the Senior Center at 214 N. First St., Owensville.

Helping Hands Outreach Center is an amazing community

organization which handles so much more than food distribution

to those who need a helping hand in our community. Helping

Hands is completely run and staffed by volunteers. Those who

volunteer at Helping Hands are using their gifts to serve others,

and thus faithfully administering God’s grace in variety of forms.

If a family or individual needs food, Helping Hands can provide

it with love.

(continued from page 1)

Children, who receive breakfast and lunch at school during the week, may go

hungry on the weekends. Helping Hands administers the Backpack Program that

sends food home for children on Fridays so that they will have food for the weekend.

Operation Christmas helps families celebrate Christmas with food and gifts.

The Owensville Rosebud Ministerial Alliance works with Helping Hands to aid those

who need financial assistance with gas, medicine and more. The new Helping Hands

location has a nice cubicle for the ministers to meet with clients who need a prayer

and a bit of extra financial help.

All of this is possible through the generous donations of community members. Church-

es, local businesses, community groups and individuals provide the money to keep

these places of love and hospitality going. For this everyone is grateful.

This month St. Peter’s UCC will be focusing on supporting the Helping Hands New

Building Fund. Helping Hands’ new building is located at 3522 Kosark Road in

Owensville. An Open House for Helping Hands is planned for Sunday, August

4 from 1pm to 3pm. Please stop by to see the wonderful new facility to share God’s

love in this community.

Thank you for caring and sharing God’s love. Let others know about all that St. Peter’s

supports in our community. Invite them to join us in our love and caring by inviting

them to church.

Blessings,

Pastor Stephanie

MISSION OF THE MONTH

The August Mission of the Month is the Helping Hands Outreach

Center Building Campaign.

Helping Hands Outreach Center of Gasconade County has been

serving our community for the last 17 years with a goal of making sure

no one in our community goes without food. Over the years the commu-

nity has donated both food and funds and volunteered countless hours

toward meeting their goal. Community support has always been wide ranging, from

individuals to the schools, churches and organizations and some of the businesses.

Their ability to provide food has grown over the years and expanded from the food

distribution and Operation Christmas to programs such as weekly backpacks for

children who do not have enough to eat over the weekend and monthly mobile markets

that distribute perishables such as bakery, dairy and produce --- all through the ongo-

ing efforts and support of the community. They added more and more shelving, coolers

and freezers and in the process, outgrew their space and borrowed space from the park,

one of the schools and one of the churches. When offered over 5,000 square feet of space

for less than $10 per square foot, there was an opportunity that would increase food

storage and office space and also allow them to house the backpack program, mobile

markets and Operation Christmas on site.

An ambitious project is continuing to raise enough funds for the building purchase,

renovation costs and one year of operational costs. The result will be a volunteer opera-

tion that can look forward to being there for those in need for many years to come.

It is not too late to join in on this community project and you are urged to support

this effort with a donation to our Mission of the Month. Helping someone in need is a

way to share our blessings and make Owensville a better place to live for everyone.

~Thank you from the Mission Committee!

CASA COFFEE

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is having an information

session August 20 at 8 am in the Simply Sweet Upstairs area.

CASA advocates are volunteers appointed by a judge to discover the

best possible outcome for abused or neglected children in foster care in

Gasconade County. Volunteers are needed in our area. Volunteers

complete 30 hours of training, review case records, research infor-

mation, and advocate in court. CASA is looking for people with a desire

to help children in our community. The next training is at the end of

September.

Bring a friend, have a cup of coffee and share conversations with current CASA

volunteers.
