CAMPUS

LEHMAN COLLEGE OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK is located on 37 acres in the Bronx. The historical tree-lined campus has always been a destination of transformation. During WWII, the campus served as the training ground for the WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service)—the first time that women served in the American military. In 1946, the United Nations Security Council was housed on campus, where diplomats produced a draft of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a cause that was close to the heart of our namesake, Herbert H. Lehman, the former New York Governor, U.S. Senator, and statesman. Lehman always placed himself on the side of immigrants, the working classes, and the disenfranchised. He believed in the power of an education to lift people out of poverty. Lehman College is proud to honor that tradition to this day.
