What is a Learning Portfolio? A Learning Portfolio is an online, multimedia collection of an individual’s work, including finished pieces, reflections on and documentation of process, research and examples of other’s work that inspires them.

Access to the portfolio development process should be broad.

Student portfolios should evidence multiple learning pathways.

Young people gain agency by telling their own learning story.

Portfolios help educators better understand the learning history of their students.

Creating Digital Content in the Classroom: Exploring Assignment / Post Formats

Persuasive Posts

Assignment Ideas: Students can articulate opinions and attempt to persuade the reader. This can be accomplished through writing as with newspaper editorials or criticism, a persuasive poster or video (ex. anti-smoking PSA).

Assignment Ideas: Students can practice descriptive writing or teaching by creating a how-to guide about something that they are experts on. Once the guides have been written (or recorded on video) students can pair off and use each other’s guides to gain new skills. Those who attempted new skills can review the tutorials and offer feedback.

Assignment Ideas: Students can create an ordered list or playlist based on something they are learning about. This can be accomplished w/text-only lists, text + image lists in the style of buzzfeed, a video / performance in the style of Letterman, or a Spotify playlist on a particular subject.
