as we walked along the tracks i couldnt help but notice the way that his laughter sounded different than yours always did every time it bounced off the rocks but when i think of our echoes now all i can hear are the stabbing syllables that clanged off of empty walls, no rustling trees i look around at the pines now and wonder how many people theyve seen walk by and if they notice when only one person comes back after always being two before i watch him marvel at the things im showing him along the way, always checking over his shoulder to check for a train even though its only eight and you and i both know it only ever comes by late at night

we sit down to watch the sun sink beneath the ocean of trees as he says something about this being the best view hes ever seen ive seen it so many times before, its just lost all its luster i wonder if you still think of me whenever you get woken up at midnight by the distant horn and rumble from deep in the woods your sleep was always the lightest but his is as heavy as these iron beams see, i told you, he says as we feel the ties start to shake a light comes around the distant corner and he ushers me off to the side you would have let me stay right where i was.

  • exam. Remember that classmates are in the same boat as you and if you are stressed, they are too. Reach out to a classmate (or several classmates) to form a study group. You can quiz each other on some of the ma-terial and it will boost your confidence to

know that you have prepared well!

    5. Stay organized! Whether you have one final exam or five, time management is a key factor for success, especially when you are trying to balance academics, with end of the year social events and logistical chal-lenges like moving out of your residence hall. Keep a planner or schedule where you block out study times, exam times, and any other commitments to keep you feeling organized

throughout this busy time of year.

    6. Be positive! Youve been learning all se-mester and studying hard. You will succeed!

Best of luck during final exam week!

With final exams right around the corner, were sure that you have your hands full with projects, papers

    and the like.

Were sure that using some of these study tips will help you to beat the stress and work toward achieving

    final exam success!

    1. Use your resources! Take ad-vantage of resources such as walk-in tutoring, or reviewing your study guide, as these re-sources are designed to help

    you be more prepared.

    2. Location, Location, Location! Spend your time thinking about the exam itself, not worrying about where and when your exam will be. To do this, make sure you know the date, time

and location of your final exam ahead of time. To do this, ask your

    professor.

    3. Get a grip (on the subject matter!) Knowing whether or not the exam will be cumulative or if the exam will focus on the last few chapters of material can make a big difference in how you pre-pare. For a cumulative exam, it may help to make a list of key ideas and key terms for each chapter, so you dont feel overwhelmed trying to memo-rize all of the material.

For an exam that covers just a few chapters, you may want to drill down and study the content from each chap-

    ter more in-depth.

    4. Study Buddies!

Outstanding Peer Educators: March and April

    Final Exam Success Tips!

Each month, The Learning Center selects

one of its Peer Educators to be recognized

as the Outstanding Peer Educator of the

Month. Students are nominated by coordi-

nators for going above and beyond the

expectations of their Peer Educator roles.

    Congratula-

    tions to Hallie

    Semmel for

    being named

    The Learning

    Centers

    Outstanding

    Peer Educator

    of the Month

    for March

    2015.

Hallie has done amazing work as a writ-

ing tutor at The Learning Center. Hallie is

a new addition to the writing tutoring

team, starting as a new tutor this January,

but she had quickly become one of Selin-

as go-to tutors. Hallie is incredibly relia-

ble and is the first to step up and take on

any extra responsibilities or to help her

fellow tutors out by covering shifts. The

students Hallie works with sing her praises.

We are very appreciative of all Hallie

does for The Learning Center and her

peers; her work as a walk-in and 1-1

writing tutor, a writing classroom assistant

    for a Hospitality class, Conversational

English tutor and 1-1 history tutor has

been outstanding. We are very fortunate

to have Hallie on The Learning Center

    team.

    Congratula-

    tions to

    Michael

    Weinstein for

    being named

    The Learning

    Centers Out-

    standing Peer

    Educator of

    the Month for

    March 2015.

Mike Weinstein is a senior and has been

tutoring for The Learning Center since

    January 2014.

Mike wears many hats in his work at The

Learning Center. He is currently a walk-in

tutor for Math, a 1-1 tutor for Math, Ge-

ography and Geology, as well as a class-

room assistant for three sections of Math

    240. Mike is certified as a Level 1 tutor

by the international College Reading and

Learning Association and is quick to help

out in any capacity when needed. A true

educator, Mike finds ways to make

meaningful connections with the content for

the students with whom he works and con-

tinually shares his enthusiasm for learning.

He is positive and encouraging in his ap-

proach and is very well-respected by all

students and fellow Peer Educators who

work with him. The Learning Center is ex-

tremely fortunate to have Mike as part of

our team and is grateful for all that he

    does.
