Everyone likes a fresh start when they return to school in the Fall, and that’s how we feel here at the LEAD Center, too. Like many or- ganizations here on campus, we decided to try something new in how we communi- cate with student groups. Have you ever found your- self wanting to break out of your comfort zone and try a new activity, experi- ence a new culture, or join a Pre-professional organiza- tion, but you just can’t seem to find any information? Or how about if you’ve ever been bored out of your mind and you just want something exciting to do? Well look no further be- cause the LEAD center will be coming to you with infor- mation on student organiza- tion activities and events in the first ever volume of e LEAD Letter! Each issue will contain all updated, relevant informa- tion on student groups on campus. We’ll be featuring all kinds of organzinations, old and new, and higlighting events and activities that stu- dents can get invovled in on campus. Student signatories should check their emails for a chance to have their student group or upcoming event publicized in our letter or our Facebook page! We encourage you all to share these events with other members of you oragniza- tions so that we as a commu- nity can collectively support the diverse congregation of groups that thrive at Cal. Lead on & stay golden, e LEAD Center New semester, new beginnings Student Group Spotlight: Danceworx Page 1 Danceworx was founded in 1988 and is the oldest stu- dent-run dance group on the UC Berkeley campus! For over 20 years, they have been providing students with a creative outlet for choreog- raphy, dancing, and perfor- mance in a fun, and support- ive environment. e experience of sharing the stage with fellow dancers and friends is always a high- light moment for both new and returning members. Choreographers, who au- dition for their positions, se- lect dancers at the beginning of each semester and hold practices for routines in var- ious styles: Jazz/Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Tap. roughout the semes- ter, they host several social events such as bowling, ice cream parties, movie nights, and their end-of-the-semes- ter banquet so their dancers can bond outside of practice; these are the kind of friend- ships that create a smaller, more approachable commu- nity on a campus with over 30,000 students. Each semester culminates in a total of three perfor- mances directed by the or- ganization’s officer board. ere are two outdoor show- cases on the Savio Steps of Sproul and one evening showcase in a local theater venue. Showcases attract over 400 attendees each semester and also feature guest perfor- mances from campus and local community groups to foster unity and promote diversity among Berkeley’s performing arts community. Danceworx also performs at campus and local events throughout the semster, so if you’re looking for some per- formers, they’re always excit- ed for the opportunity. Be sure to catch Dance- worx busting some moves during their Sproul Shows this semester on Nov. 4 and Nov. 10 at 12PM, as well as their Fall Showcase in Zeller- bach Playhouse on Nov. 14. New semester, new beginnings Student Group Spotlight: Danceworx

Danceworx was founded in 1988 and is the oldest stu-dent-run dance group on the UC Berkeley campus!
