God’s Remedy For The Law

“For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh” (Rom. 8:3)

The Law

WHY DO THE GOSPEL WRITERS AFFIRM THAT JESUS

Why do the Gospel writers affirm that Christ died so quickly after being suspended on the cross?• Because He completed the work of redemption (Jn.

19:30)• There was nothing else that needed to be done • To stay on the cross longer would have been superfluous

• He suffered the right amount to please what was determined by Jehovah

• Not based so much on the quantity of suffering as it was the quality of Who suffered and died!

• A sinner perishes in eternal hell because he has rejected the means for reconciliation, profaned the blood of Christ, and insulted the Spirit of grace!

In Redemption

Objectionable

• A sinner suffering for sinners is not an adequate payment for the crime (principle in 1 Pet. 2:19, 20)

• The quality is insufficient and ineffective because all have sinned

Unobjectionable

• A divine person, sinless, holy, harmless dying as an offering for sin (1 Pet. 2:21-24; Is. 53:4, 5, 10, 11)

• The quality is very effective (1 Pet. 1:18, 19)

WARNING!

Caution against Dangerous Reasoning2. “One drop of His blood is so powerful to

cleanse the world of sin”• This runs the other extreme and diminishes

from the cost of sin!• Why not only prick His finger?• There was nothing superfluous in the suffering

of Christ—He suffered the sufficient amount to please the Father and provide redemption for all mankind!

The Real Demerit of Sin

• The Son of God hanging on a cross as an “offering for sin,” shows:– Sin is hostile to heaven– Sin is offensive to heaven– Sin is damning to man– Sin is very costly

When I sin, I crucify afresh the Son of God (Heb. 6:6)!

• “Redeemed,” -to buy up, hence to secure our release, to effect our deliverance

• Law of Moses had no provisions for absolute forgiveness • Demanded absolute

perfect obedience (Gal. 3:10)

• Reminder of sin (Heb. 10:3)

• Insufficient sacrifices (Heb. 10:4)

• As long as the law remained in effect, so did the curse—Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law and took away its power/authority over us so that we can receive “blessing”

• “Curse” (Deut. 21:22, 23)• Was not literally

cursed by the law as He was sinless, harmless, innocent, and fully approved by the Father (Jn. 8:28, 29; Heb. 7:26)
