The Last Time I Saw Her Eyes, She Looked Beautiful
By Joyce Micho Muhizi
The last time I saw her eyes, she looked beautiful
Ever radiant and loving
Her hugs are what I miss the most on cold days away
Ever smiling and helping
Her being is irreplaceable
Oh, how I can’t wait to go home.
In her eyes I see endless strings of care
In times of sickness and health
In her eyes I see a stream of prayers cried out past my bedtime
Like an angel watching over me while I wander carelessly
In her eyes I see sacrifice waiting to be returned
As she grows and loses the ease to do her favorite tasks
In her eyes, I see an unwavering hope and faith in her seed
Watching as the baton is being passed on
In her eyes, I see my beginning and hopefully my end
The lovelier version of myself
The last time I saw her eye, she looked beautiful
Oh, how I can’t wait to go home
In her eyes I see a giant-slayer
Fighting against the demons brought in by my teenage years
In her eyes I see solutions made last minute
As the wind blows in the unfavorable direction
I see a cheerleader
Screaming the loudest no matter the score
In her eyes I see my home
Ever warm and welcoming.
The last time I saw her eyes, she looked beautiful.
Her existence is indispensable
Oh, how I can’t wait to go home.
