Pelagic Fisheries

TRAWLS BOTH SINGLE AND PAIR-TRAWLING The Design of all SNG Trawls are tailored to the fishing vessels specifications, the objective is for optimal towing speed while trawling.

Our designs are specific to the various target species. We use only the best quality products that the market has to offer, and as a result our trawls will have a longer life expectancy compared to trawls made with lesser quality products.

Helix self spreading technology, PEPA ropes, Nylex ropes, braided Nylon ropes and twisted Nylon both in RHL and LHL. These are our main products used in the construction of our trawls.

HELIX SELF SPREADING TRAWLSThese ropes have Hydrodynamic Technology; the trawl will shoot and haul easily and will keep its shape and continue to fish while turning. These trawls will come with four colours; blue head panel, red port side panel, green starboard side panel and yellow foot panel.

PEPA TRAWLSThese ropes are like the Helix but don`t have the Hydrodynamic Technology feature. They will also shoot and haul easily. These trawls will come with four colours; blue head panel, red port side panel, green starboard side panel and yellow foot panel.

NYLEX TRAWLSThese ropes are made with nylon fibre and have a 12 strand construction, they are high in strength. These trawls will come with four colours; blue head panel, red port side panel, green starboard side panel and yellow foot panel.

BRAIDED NYLON TRAWLSThese ropes are made with nylon fibre and have a tight braided construction, the main factures are the twine is water repellent, there is no shrinking or swelling of the twine and has a firmed and fixed diameter during use.

TWISTED NYLON TRAWLS BOTH IN RHL AND LHL

These ropes are made with nylon fibre and have a 3 strand construction, the main features are the twine is water repellent, there is no shrinking or swelling of the twine and has a firmed and fixed diameter during use. These trawls are most commonly used for pair trawling because of the added stretch factor.

TRAWL TUNNELSIn our trawls there are two options for the tunnels one being the conventional 4 panel version and the other being the 8 panel version. The latter option is the most popular choice because of the added benefits, these are a better water flow, more stability, added strength and increased mesh opening.

PUMPING CODENDS (BRAILERS)• We make a wide range of pumping codends

(brailer) again these are tailor made to suit the specific requirements of each vessel.

• Our designs are specific to the various target species.

• These pumping codends are made most commonly with nylon twisted, nylon braided. The netting types range from single, double, triple and quadruple construction.

• We use only the best quality products that the market has to offer, and as a result our pumping codends will have a longer life expectancy compared to pumping codends made with lesser quality products.

• Rings or no rings, our pumping codends have two options for running the splitter ropes. Option 1 is the familiar stainless steel ring version, and option 2 is a new concept of running the splitter through dynice handles attached to a Dynet band this creates more flair because the weight of rings has been eliminated.

• Dynet pumping section, this reduces shrinkage, the inside and cover is made with Dynet netting this makes the section light and easy to handle and to attach to the fish pump.

• Wider style pumping codends, with these we are having great success, with some international fish buying describing the fish quality as superb.

PUMPING CODENDS (RAMPING)• We make a wide range of robust codends that

are hauled up the ramp to the deck space for processing.

• These codends are tailor made to suit the pacific requirements of each vessel.

• Our designs are specific to the various target species.

• We produce codends in various mesh sizes that are required for the different species.

Braided netting made from nylon (polyamide) multifilament’s with high elasticity and high breaking load and elongation to break.

The elasticity gives the netting a higher ability to meet extreme loads compared to other materials like polyethylene and polypropylene. Heatset and impregnated with best available materials to ensure stability and endurance.

Braided high density polyethylene netting with maximum strength to diameter ratio to minimise drag during towing.

The twine is round and compact and core and cover are engineered to optimise knot breaking strength.

Twisted twine netting with high elasticity and high strength obtained with accurate twisting levels, tensioning and heat setting after impregnation.

The nylon (polyamide) multifilament fibres used are of highest available quality and originated in Europe.

The Dynet is made solely of Dyneema® high performance fibres from DSM and impregnated with special solvent based material to increase stiffness and durability.

We use this rope on our trawls with a colour arrangement of green and red to signify Starboard side and Port side.

Meet the world’s strongest rope. DynIce Warps are a revolution in trawling. They are a proven way in pelagic fisheries to reduce weight, increase trawl opening, improve handling and decrease oil consumption during trawling.

DynIce Warps are the most advanced rope used in fisheries today, incorporating the newest synthetic high-performance fibres available and patent pending manufacturing technology and designs.

For our rigging ropes we use DynIce with Dyneema (Certified by Lloyds of London); this is our preferred choice. We use these ropes for the following applications, life lines, codend lines, bridles, back straps, pennants and messengers.

These ropes come in array of sizes, they can be Dyneema Overbraided if preferred for extra protection and added life expectancy, there is also some colour options.

A set of DynIce Warps in a 40mm diameter weigh only 4000kg, compared to the 29 tonnes a set of comparable steel warps weigh.

COMPARISON OF PROPERTIES

Behaviour of headline cable during towing

There are three main forces acting on the head line cable. One is the sinking weight of the cable in sea, another is the drag of the cable itself and the third is the pulling force on the headline sonar which is fixed to the trawl.

When the pulling force is suitably adjusted the headline cable is taut and if steel wire is used it will slope bit down due to the weight. DynIce Data will have similar slope but in the opposite and upward direction.

If there is a slack in the headline cable the steel wire falls down, it can touch the warps during turning and even fall into or below the trawl and damage it the warps.

DynIce Data, due to its lightness will be pushed upwards by the drag and stay above the arps and the trawl.

Schools of fish in front of the trawl are therefore not cut through by the headline cable leading to reduced catch.

Dyneema SK60 offers exceptional strength and axial stiffness. If thicker diameter is preferred for handling or holding instead of strength DynIce 60 can be a suitable choice.

DYNICE DUX

The name DUX is Latin and means the top of the class. This heat set outperforms Dyneema 75 – 78 and 90 ropes as its strength is far higher, all constructional elongation has been removed in the production process and the stretch characteristics are extremely low.

DYNICE ULTRABEND 75

The DynIce Ultrabend 75 is based on the new bending fatigue resistant fibre Dyneema XBO. The bending fatigue tolerance is up to 5 times higher than for DynIce 75 and therefore very suitable for running rigging which has to tolerate lot of bending under high load.

DYNICE ULTRABEND 78

The DynIce Ultrabend 78 is based on the new bending fatigue resistant fibre Dyneema XBO with same low creep properties as SK78. The bending fatigue tolerance is up to 5 times higher than for DynIce 78 and therefore very suitable for running rigging which has to tolerate lot of bending under high load and high temperature.

Our simulation software allows us to input all the parameters of a trawl gear; bottom trawls with two panels or more, pelagic trawls, twin trawls or more. The software simulates the mechanical behaviour of the fishing gear, while solving the momentum equations and taking into account the hydrodynamic forces applied to each part of the gear.

At the end of the simulation, which can last some minutes to several hours, depending on the complexity of the trawl gear, the results are available:

• The geometry; any distance and co-ordinate (eg. openings, door to door distance, depth)

• The forces: tensions in the rig, in the strengthening ropes and towing force

1 PLAITED SNG MOORING ROPEOffers up to 35% higher breaking loads than ordinary polypropylene ropes. Top choice for winch and mooring lines. Compatible strengths to nylon ropes at a third of the price.

2 NYLON BRAID ROPE (COD END ROPE)

A double braided nylon rope consisting of a braided sheath over a braided core, used for single point moorings, towing springs and fishing ropes used also in trawl release guns.

3 4 STRAND COMBINATIONOffers top performance with high BL, long life and spliceability. The polysteel fibre strands remain on the wire cores to allow splicing and achieve maximum durability in the toughest conditions.

These ropes are manufactured using a combination of polysteel fibres and wires with a wire rope core. The polysteel cover offers a high abrasion resistance, low stretch and high breaking load.

6 PLAITED POLYSTEEL Offers excellent abrasion resistance. It’s flexibility ensures ease of handling. It is extremely suitable for winch and mooring lines and is comparable with nylon products at a third of the price.

7 POLYPROPYLENE SPLITA multi-purpose rope with good breaking loads at economic prices. We also offer a superior version of this split film rope to most others on the market. It is manufactured in a three strand direct lay and three operation lay. It is also vacuum packed which is ideal in ducting applications, used by telecommunication companies.

8 POLYETHYLENEPolyethylene rope has a positive buoyancy and it’s strength remains the same - dry or wet. Polyethylene rope has a superior abrasion resistance and breaking load compared to common polypropylene ropes. Superb for use in blocks and sheaves.

9 OCEANFLEX EXTREMEManufactured with new additives for extreme abrasion resistance with latest fibre technology. Extreme ropes sit excellent on the deck of a boat for ease of use no tangles. Extreme rope is the no 1 rope for fisherman who want a rope to outlast all other potting ropes.

STANDARD RUBBERED POTSHeavy duty commercial pots with side entry multipurpose catching ability. The soft nylon entrance eyes are designed to allow the largest of lobster and crabs to enter the pot.

ROPED TOP AND BOTTOMCan be supplied in 8 or 10mm steel, comes with heavy black PE netting and a 15 bar base. Pot is roped on base for extra seabed protection. The pot can be supplied in 10mm or 8mm steel.

AQUAMESHAquamesh is a PVC coated, welded-wire mesh, specially designed for use in the marine environment. It has a proven track record in both the fishing and aquaculture industries. Aquamesh is produced in 100ft rolls in a range of widths, mesh sizes and gauges. This wire has proved very successful in the base of second-hand lobster pots to increase life and durability of the pot.

Lobster/crab creels has become the fastest growing sector within SNG due to the reputation our creel has obtained for its high catching power and durability.

The excellent workmanship put into completion of the creel including our renowned entrance eye makes it one of the most popular creels in the market today.

NETTED POTSAvailable in 8 or 10mm plastic coated steel with 4.5mm PE netting. Fitted with soft eyes, bait bag, hook and rubber. This is the most basic version of pot supplied by SNG giving the owner the option of fishing the pot in its present state and roping the bars at a later stage. base gives extra life span and durability.

ZINC ALLOY WELD-ON/ BOLT-ON HULL ANODES Corrosion may be defined as the deterioration of a metal due to a reaction with its environment. For corrosion to occur, areas with different electrical potentials must exist on the metal surface. An electrical current will flow between the water and fittings made of different metals, causing some of them to corrode away. On wooden and GRP boats the propeller, shaft, p-bracket and skin fitting are at risk, while on a steel hulled vessel the whole underwater area is vulnerable to costly and potentially dangerous damage. MOORING SHACKLEThe Gunnebo Mooring shackle no. 852 has been developed specifically for the Aquaculture industry, with its unique feature of a counter sunk bolt which locks the shackle, and with increased material thickness in the bow we have improved the fatigue resistance. With all Gunnebo’s mooring shackles we are able to offer several securing options; standard or tailored. For many years the unique no. 852 mooring shackle has been used extensively in the Aquaculture industry.

Gunnebo Industries have improved this type of shackle through continuous improvement to satisfy the exacting demands of the Aquaculture industry. To fulfil one of these demands they have added countersunk shackle type A0830 to their portfolio of aquaculture products. They offer countersunk shackles both in Dee and Bow form.

Gunnebo’s HDG chain is designed to meet the specific demands from the global aquaculture industry.

The chains are made from a premium high quality steel sourced from European steel producers to exacting standards and specifications.

Each element within the manufacturing process is stringently controlled with Gunnebo’s in house quality systems; this also applies to our galvanizing and importantly our heat treating procedures which are critical factors in chain performance.

To prevent the risk of unwanted stress levels, each chain link is subjected to heat treatment after calibration in order to reduce the in borne stress

levels within it. Finally, each chain link is visually inspected after calibration.

The ultimate corrosion protection process for steel components in the marine industry is hot dipped galvanizing, this is again controlled to recognized marine standards. Gunnebo Industries have been producing galvanized chains for more than 50 years.

HELIX TAGLINE Using a regular rope of poly, nylon or sisal has some inherent problems when used as tag line:

1. They tend to wrap around objects

2. They get caught in pinch points

3. The bottoms fray and are then knotted to stop the fraying causing the line to catch

4. They get slick when worn, wet or dirty with grease

The Helix tagline solves these problems, as it is specifically designed for the application.

Helix taglines are tangle resistant as it is designed with a rigid core & stiff overbrading to prevent any turning on itself and wrapping around objects. We have added an additional factor which is the spiral effect (HELIX), which will dramatically increase grip in wet & slippery conditions. Helix taglines are designed not to catch on pinch points, as there are no knots or areas to snag.

Marine anti-tangle tag lines are manufactured from DynIce SK 75 synthetic rope giving them exceptional strength and they are also lightweight for operator handling.

Each tagline has a soft over braided cover to help prevent abrasion. This similar technology is used in tow lines and gives the product its anti-tangle properties. There are four current lengths 15ft, 25ft, 35ft and 45ft each coming with a relevant colour coded eye for length identification. In addition to this there is a triple action karabiner with captive pin.

WRIN HANDLE WRIN STR handles are designed to be attached to chain hooks to eliminate the risk of personal injury and to simplify the operation of the latch release trigger.

These STR handles are a must for the safety conscious.

The STR handle is designed to reduce exposure to accidents on sites where heavy lifting is carried out. Over the years there have been many instances of personal injury inflicted during the operation of attaching and releasing chains and slings from chain hooks.

The new STR handles are designed to eliminate the requirement of placing parts of the hand inside safety latch hooks while attempting to operate the release trigger.

The STR handle can be attached to the chain hook simply without compromising the integrity of the hook’s design and capabilities. The handle is clamped to the hook and fixed by replacing the hook’s trigger pin with a longer bolt. The STR handle can be fitted to and removed in a minimum of time with a minimum of tools in any location.

The STR handle is made of quality 316 Stainless Steel. The design includes a hole for attaching a lead line for easy retrieval.

This pyro has a distinct advantage to its competitors as its time expiry date is 1 year longer than other brands. SNG have secured the capability of holding large amounts of pyro with the local authorities and the department of justice in our custom built pyro store.

This gives us the advantage of holding large quantities and classes of pyro required for the marine and leisure markets. This is also gives us the ability, in co-operation with the department of defence, to dispose of time expired pyro technics.
