KING EDWARD The MONTHLY NEWSLETTER 112 Lippincott Street, Toronto, Ontario 416.393.1320 schools.tdsb.on.ca/kingedward THE KING EDWARD NEWSLETTER MAY 2013 This year, the Art Show is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 th . Come join us for a evening of art, refreshments, music and conversation. We will be showcasing student work from Kindergarten to grade 8. There will be many items available for auction and, as always, you can try your luck choosing a mystery bottle. We are currently seeking donated items for the silent auction. If you have a service or item to donate, please contact Anne Fleming at [email protected]. Congratulations Zindzi and Brittany! It’s that time of year again… On April 23, students from King Edward went to the Toronto West Regioal Heritage Fair at Fort York. It was a community celebration where local museums, historical associations, and multicultural groups came together to celebrate our Canadian Heritage. After the opening ceremonies, students rotated through adjudication, educational workshops and cultural performances. When the judging was complete and the results came in, our very own Zindzi and Brittany from 8A came out winners! Way to represent our school, ladies! In a concerted effort to improve literacy skills, while also engaging students, the king Edward staff is preparing for it's annual "CASI Bootcamp" to be held next week. Grades 6-8 will be participating and rotating through specific lessons (each lesson explicitly teaching a skill that is evaluated in CASI) taught by 8 different teachers. The week culminates with the whole school writing CASI in the gym, or library, on Friday, May 10th. Through this structure, the King Edward staff hopes to increase the literacy skills of our students through direct instruction but in an engaging way – while allowing students to interact with different teachers for literacy instruction than they normally would in a regular week. please help our school by saving your magazine renewals for our fall QSP fundraiser

It’s that time of year again…

On April 23, students from King Edward went to the Toronto West Regioal Heritage Fair at Fort York. It was a community celebration where local museums, historical associations, and multicultural groups came together to celebrate our Canadian Heritage. After the opening ceremonies, students rotated through adjudication, educational workshops and cultural performances. We're well over a $1000 now in existing fines - just from books that were due to be returned prior to September. If all current overdue books were added to the mix we'd be closer to $3000 to replace all owing books! Every month students are given letters for books that are overdue - taken out during this school year. Notices for lost books (books that were due to be returned at any point prior to the start of this school year) have gone home twice now, since March, and if a book has been lost, there is a replacement fee listed – or they may purchase a new copy of the book for the library. Yearbooks will not be distributed until either the books arereturned or the replacement fee has been paid.
