6th Grade Social Studies

The 6th graders have begun their study of South American cultures with the Inca, Chavin, andMochica. This includes a study of the geography of South America and the legacies of thesecivilizations. After this chapter, we will move on to our study of ancient Asian civilizationsbeginning with China. We will look at the geography of this region and the people that settledalong the Huang River and the eventual dynasties that emerged including the Zhou and Han.

6th Grade Religion

The 6th grade will begin their story of God's chosen people. We will look at the meaning ofcovenants and the examples of these covenants already especially Noah and the �ood. Theywill be discussing the covenant God made with Abraham and the ful�llment of that covenantwith Abraham's son, Isaac. This will lead to the development of the Israelite people.

7th Grade Social Studies

The 7th grade is continuing their study of Asian cultures with the Japanese people. Thisincludes the unique geography of Japan and how civilizations developed as a result, the artand culture of the Heian region, and the rise of the shogunate and the power of the samurai.After we �nish this chapter, we will move to medieval Europe, and explore the geography ofEurope, what happened in Europe after the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476, and theconditions that led to feudalism in most of western Europe.

8th Grade Social Studies

The 8th grade has �nished their study of the Washington and Adams presidencies. We willbegin learning about the Jefferson era. This includes the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis andClark expedition and the challenges with European impressment. We will also study thecauses and effects of the War of 1812. After this we will look at the emergence of Americanforeign policy following the War of 1812 and the Monroe Doctrine.
