It was a quiet day deep in the Indian jungle. Bagheera the panther was walking along the river. Suddenly he heard a strange sound; Bagheera went to see what was making that noise. It was a man-cub! He found the baby boy in a basket, which lay in a half sunken boat. Bagheera felt sorry for the baby. Carefully he carried the basket and thought that the baby would never survive without a mother. What should I do with you, little boy? He asked to the baby. Then Bagheera remembered that a wolf family lived nearby. Perhaps they could adopt the baby. He brought the basket to the wolves. They accepted the baby immediately, and the baby was named Mowgli. For ten years he lived happily in the jungle. Mowgli learned many things from the wolves, he learned how to run like a wolf, how to scratch himself like a wolf and even how to play dead like a wolf. But then one day there was some bad news, Shere Khan the tiger had returned, he hated all humans because a hunter had once shot at him, so Mowgli was in danger. Later that night the wolf pack gathered with Bagheera and declared that the kid must leave at once because even the strength of the pack wasn’t match for Shere Khan. Then Bagheera spoke up and said that he knew of a village where Mowgli would be safe and that he might be able to take him there. But taking him to the village wouldn’t be easy. -This is my home- Protested Mowgli- I don’t want to leave the jungle-Listless; Mowgli began the journey with Bagheera. Later the night began to fall. When they came to a big tree, Bagheera decided they would spend the night in the branches. But they were not alone. Kaa the snake was hiding in the tree, and he thought Mowgli would be a delicious snack.Yes, little boy, go to sleep –Kaa whispered as he slithered down the tree. All of a sudden Mowgli woke up and saw Kaa.-Go away leave me alone-he said to the snake. But Kaa just smiled and said-Don’t be afraid, little boy, trust me, and go to sleep- Then he stared at Mowgli, Mowgli stared back, but he began to feel dizzy. He was under Kaa’s spell,Kaa wrapped his long tail around Mowgli.But Bagheera woke up just in time and slapped Kaa with his paw before the snake could hurt Mowgli. Kaa fell to the ground with a thump. Kaa said- you have made a serious mistake, Bagheera-as he slithered off.
