Vocalist & stage writer Barry Ferrier has teamed up with the talented country music artist Kathryn Jones to create an immersive music theatre show that emulates a live stage performance by Johnny Cash and June Carter, and captures the interaction between these two gifted and unique music artists.

Barry has the vocal depth to emulate the unique Johnny Cash sound and the vivacious and versatile Kathryn Jones plays the gutsy and often hilarious June Carter, as she ‘hoots and hollers’ her way through this toe-tapping, side slapping mix of great songs and stories.

Johnny Cash covered songs by many of the greatest 20th Century songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Kris Kristopherson, and Willie Nelson and in later life

he brough his unique authority to a later generation of song writers such 9 Inch Nails, U2 and Tom Petty, so the repertoire is extremely broad and interesting, including some of the greatest popular songs written over the past 60 years.

June Carter was a comedienne, songwriter and highly polished entertainer in her own right, who brought humour and warmth to the Carter/Cash live stage show and injected her unique energy and sparkle into performing the great female country songs of the era, as an important and integral part of Johnny Cash’s travelling music show.

Johnny Cash & June Carter are towering legends in Country Music who performed live shows together for over 40 years, bringing the greatest songs of a generation to life, in their unique, toe-tapping Country Music showcases. Johnny Cash was in a unique poition of respect in American music through his prolific and hugely successful recording career, combined with his weekly national television show, and he had an uncanny ability to pick good songs and stamp them with his unmistakeable sound. He was fortunate to be able to draw on the very best of popular American songwriters in building their highly entertaining repertoire, including such icons as Kris Kristofferson & Bob Dylan

Two talented Australian performers, Barry Ferrier and Kathryn Jones have crafted an entertaining and immersive tribute to these great artists, that captures the unique flavour of June and Johnny performing live. They have compiled a songlist of the greatest country songs performed by June and Johnny and woven these into a showcase of intimate musical moments and fun sing-a-long country hits, just the way June and Johhny did it best, with entertaining audience participation and some great country nostalgia.

Of course this great new show includes all the greatest Johnny Cash hits such as Ring of Fire, I Walk the Line, and Folsom Prison Blues, as well as Johnny’s interpretations of such great songs as “Help Me Make it Through the Night” and ‘Ghost Riders in the Sky’. ‘Dr. Baz’ has the vocal depth to capture Johnny Cash’s unmistakable authorative baritone and project his powerful on stage presence. But June Carter was a great Country Music Star in her own right, and the vivacious Kathryn Jones brings her own special country sensibility to light up this dynamic show, performing renditions of some of the all time great country music hits, such as Joelene, Harper Valley PTA, Waling After Midnight.

About Kathryn Jones

Likened to country greats-June Carter & Jeannie C Riley, Kathryn is a streetwise performer seduces audiences with her irresistible cheek, home grown humour & dulcet tones. With a booty of ukuleles, acoustic guitars & cowboys galore, this swingin’ cowgirl is the Australia’s sassiest new artist blending country roots with old world, nostalgic charm.

Kathryn Jones launched her music career with a rock band at the tender age 14 and by 17 was touring Australia’s East Coast with a fake I.D. and gutsy determination. Critics and audiences alike were impressed with her solid, charismatic performances .

Kathryn launched her debut EP Oh Brother Come Home in 2007, which earned her a Best Female Vocal nomination two years later at the NCEIA Dolphin Awards for the haunting ballad ‘The Living Dead’. Kathryn’s catchy, soul driven interpretations of country classics envelope the listener and set a course for an intimate experience of pleasure, adventure and sensory exposure.

About Barry Ferrier

Barry gained wide experience in music theatre in his early career, appearing in the original cast of “Jesus Christ Superstar “ and “Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat“ and with the Lindsay Kemp Mime Company. He has written & performed theatre restaurant shows, three stage musicals and produced two cast albums.

He was a recording artist for RCA, appearing on the ABC’s “Countdown” and opening for Ry Cooder at the Palais in Melbourne. He played bass with chart topping pop group “The Ferrets”. Later he worked as music director and composer at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Brisbane. He has appeared as support for many eminent Aussie music acts.

He was also band leader and guitarist for legendary superstar Eartha Kitt on her 1994 Australian national tour.

He has performed in Europe and the UK, and at the Byron Blues Festival, Blues on Broadbeach, Gympie Muster, and the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
