The project will continue and expand the river basin management approach in line with the Myanmar NWFD

Continue in Bago Sub-basin Area to follow up on the decided Programme of measures

Establish arenas for coordination of authorities and involvement of NGOs in sub-basins within for development of Sub-basin Water Management Plans

Facilitate for coordination between Sittaung Sub-basin Areas for development/ agreeing on a Sittaung River Basin Management Plan

Experiences from implementing the approach in sub-basins where different ethnic groups are present

Initiate the River Basin Management Approach in Tanintharyi Region

The Tanintharyi Basin demonstrates a “Ridge to Reef” approach, as the largely influenced coastal areas is part of the basin.

The National Coastal Resource Management Committee (NCRMC) and the National Water Resource Committee (NWRC) have cross over management responsibilities in the basin- the case area represents an opportunity to link two national platforms.

The mixed impacts of mining, agriculture, and hydropower on the ecosystems demands integrated approaches to water resources management in a river basin in southern Myanmar.

Monitoring, risk assessments, handling and

awareness for areas affected by mining

Six sites will be selected including:

Shwegyin; Moehti Moemi; Indawgyi and

other sites by discussing with relevant

stakeholders.

Overview of contamination issues Sampling, analysis and levels assessed at different
