THEINVISIBLE One of the best known American Politicians by the name of William Benton once made a remark- able statement that “the most serious problems affecting our society today are manifestly moral, behavioral, and spir- itual, and therefore remark- ably resistant to government cures”. What this man observed is that he realized that political solutions are not sufficient in addressing man’s problems because there is a spiritual force behind the behavioral patterns of mankind in our communities. This view has a scriptural substantia- tion. “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness” (I John 5:19). The Apostle Paul also shares this view. “We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporal, but what is unseen is eternal” (II Cor 4:18) Ruler of the World What the Apostle Paul implied is that if we fix our eyes on what is seen, then we will always be confronted by events and situations that we cannot always control. And the events and situations that we would not always be in control of is the world of the spirit. The Bible in Hebrews 11:3 states, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear”. In other words, the physical, material world in which we live was created or it comes out of the spiritual world which exist alongside or all about us. And, if this material world, physical world was created by the spiritual world, then it means that it is a shadow of the spiritual world which is more real than it! The Bible teaches that both the physical and the spiritual worlds were created by Jesus Christ, “…Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: for by him were all things cre- ated, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities or pow- ers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:15, 16). Notice that this verse says Christ created the earthly visible world with its inhabitants and the invisible world with its inhabit- ants enumerated as thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers, etc. These actually refer to the ranking of angelic spirits. Now the Bible informs us that in the invisible spiritual angelic world, a divi- sion took place when one of the mighty angels, a cherubim (or an angel ordained to guard God’s throne) rebelled against Him. The cause of his fall and rebellion is clearly told in the scriptures: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the na- tions! For thou hast said in thine heart I will ascend into heave, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High”(Isaiah 14:12-14). the most serious problems affect- ing our society today are manifestly moral, behavioral, and spiritual, and therefore remarkably resistant to government cures

THEINVISIBLE

One of the best known American Politicians by the name of William Benton once made a remark-able statement that “the most serious problems affecting our society today are manifestly moral, behavioral, and spir-itual, and therefore remark-ably resistant to government cures”. What this man observed is that he realized that political solutions are not sufficient in addressing man’s problems because there is a spiritual force behind the behavioral patterns of mankind in our communities. This view has a scriptural substantia-tion. “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness” (I John 5:19). The Apostle Paul also shares this view. “We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporal, but what is unseen is eternal” (II Cor 4:18)

Ruler of the World

What the Apostle Paul implied is that if we fix our eyes on what is seen, then we will always be confronted by events and situations that we cannot always control.

The Bible teaches that both the physical and the spiritual worlds were created by Jesus Christ, “…Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: for by him were all things cre-ated, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities or pow-ers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:15, 16). Notice that this verse says Christ created the earthly visible world with its inhabitants and the invisible world with its inhabit-ants enumerated as thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers, etc. These actually refer to the ranking of angelic spirits. Now the Bible informs us that in the invisible spiritual angelic world, a divi-sion took place when one of the mighty angels, a cherubim (or an angel ordained to guard God’s throne) rebelled against Him. The cause of his fall and rebellion is clearly told in the scriptures:“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the na-tions! For thou hast said in thine heart I will ascend into heave, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High”(Isaiah 14:12-14).

Pride blinded him and robbed him of a correct balanced state of mind. He failed to discern the truth that he was the “only cre-ated son of the morning” whereas Jesus Christ is the “Only Begotten Bright Morning Star”. Obsessed with this feeling of elation, he immediately sought to redeem himself out a sup-posedly low place of bondage where he was placed (Ezekiel 28:13). When his attempts to exalt his throne to equate it with God (by spreading a false propaganda against Him in order to win favor of thousands of angels under his command) failed, this resulted in his expulsion from heaven.

Out of an exaggerated opinion of himself, which the Bible defines as pride (Romans 12:3), Lucifer (as he was then called before his fall), developed an idea that he was worthy to be equal to God, just as Jesus Christ was equal to God in His divine nature because he was created to be the “son of the morning” just as Jesus Christ is the “Bright Morning star” (Revelations 22:16). “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men;”(Philippians 2:5-7).

Realizing that he couldn’t touch the Almighty, he planned to retaliate by attacking His creation vicariously! And, since he failed to acquire a status of being equal with God, to rule over the entire heavenly creation, he then decided to use the same trick to plant an idol idea in man’s heart so that man could imagine himself equal with God. So then, when God forbade man to eat of the tree of knowledge, lest he died, Fallen Lucifer said, “…Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3; 4, 5).

Little did the poor woman realize that she (and her husband) had already been created in the image and af-ter the likeness of God. In reality what Fallen Lucifer wanted was to bring man down from the highly exalted delegated governing authority that Adam and his wife commanded. (Genesis 1:28). He was jealous of the position that God gave man, and so then he figured out that if he couldn’t govern heaven as an ul-timate ruler there, he would rather strip mankind of his governing authority, separate him from God, and get him to serve him in turn. Sad to say however that he succeeded because the Bible states.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9, 10)

“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his serv-ants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto

righteousness?”(Romans 6:16)Thus, when Adam and his wife succumbed to his dirty tricks, they gave him an upper hand and forfeited the right to exercise the dominion mandate that God had given them. This then gave the devil the right to usurp the authority from man to exercise dominion over all the earth. However, we thank God that He wasn’t satisfied with the state man fell into after being tricked by the devil; He took steps to re-instate him to his position of authority and power by sending His Son to restore what the devil had stolen! Thus, when Jesus went about preaching the gospel of the Kingdom, healing the sick, casting out devils, cleansing the lepers, restoring sight to the blind, and unstopping deaf ears, etc, He was in essence demon-strating the God-given authority that Adam lost. Therefore, the kingdom message that Jesus brought to us is the greatest good news to fallen mankind because they bring hope to man that he can regain what he had lost. Now, since Jesus Christ is the King sent to restore the fallen kingdom, God’s word says that if we want to be part of the Kingdom He is rebuilding, then we have to, first acknowledge His Kingship and desire to know Him as our Savior because He has come to destroy the works of Satan and reinstate us in our position. For this reason the Bible tells us that this is how we acknowledge His Kingship and meet Him in personal salvation:
