6:30 PM Church Conversation
.
First Thoughts
The conversation continues . . . On April 24 we had a wonderful first congregational conversation about the next pastor of First Baptist Church. About 265 folks were in attendance as we explored what the Bible says about the work of a pastor. After listening to scripture, we listened to each other around tables and shared our views about the ministry priorities for a new pastor and the challenges and opportunities of the unique church in which your new pastor will serve. We also listed what we felt were the “non-negotiables” for this new pastor.Do you know what you said about all of this? I will give a summary report this Sunday night as we gather for our second conversation. Then, we will go deeper in sharing our thoughts and feelings related to two areas that you have said are most important for the work of the next pastor. All of this information that we discuss is helping the Pastor Search Committee as they develop a profile for the kind of pastor that First Baptist needs in the next season of ministry.I hope that you will join us at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall this Sunday night. The conversation continues . . . and we need to hear your voice. David Hull

Our summer study, “Telling Tales Out of School - Literally!” begins Wednesday, May 18. Here are a few instructions we can remember each week.1. Bring your story to share. It can be a simple one. It can be a history lesson. It can be a tall tale. The content is up to you - as long as it’s your story.2. Come ready to listen to a story. Who knows? Something shared around the table might be exactly what you need to hear.3. Bring a friend. Bring your family. It can be amazing how the folks closest to you might not know your story. Our first “story time” will build around the question “Where are you from?” Come with a story to share about your home town.Don’t forget we will start a little earlier for our summer session. We will stay in the Fellowship Hall and begin with prayer time at 5:45 p.m. I am looking forward to all that we share with each other this summer. I can’t wait to see where our stories cross paths with each other and with the story of faith. - Chip Reeves

First Baptist Church of Augusta is seeking an administrative Assistant to the Pastors/Office Manager. This position serves as both the Office Manager for FBC Augusta administrative support and the assistant to the Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor. The ability to maintain the confidentiality (when appropriate) is critical. This position also supervises administrative assistants, managing assignments for a pool of administrative resources to provide support for all ministers. This position requires excellent organizational, written and verbal communications skills, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. A two-year degree or comparable experience is required. And supervisory experience with administrative staff is preferred. Go to the church website at www.fbcaugusta.org to complete an application form and for instructions on submission of a resume.
Seven Ways Church Members Should Prepare for a Sermon1. Pray for the sermon prior to coming to church.2. Pray for the pastor preaching, that God’s Spirit will fill the pastor in both the preparation and delivery of the sermon.3. Pray for yourself as you prepare to hear the sermon for a clarity of mind and an open heart to receive the message.4. Read the biblical text before the sermon is preached. Read it thoroughly and prayerfully.5. Take notes. You will have a greater focus and greater retention. Review the notes the next week.6. Seek an application to your life. Seek to understand the sermon not only in its biblical context, but in your life as well.7. Share with the pastor “one thing.” Sharing one takeaway from the sermon encourages your pastor.

Our Church in Prayer
(Jesus said) “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35Suggested Prayer Points:* Express to God your desire to love as He loves.* Ask the Holy Spirit to show you better ways to love those persons with whom you have regular contact.* Seek a greater sensitivity to the needs of others.* Pray for someone you find particularly “difficult to love.”* Bless an unsuspecting soul with a ‘random act of kindness’ this week.Closing Prayer: May people know our church’s great love for Christ by the love we show for one another.
