Description: The Alaska Department of Law, under the direction of the Attorney General, is by far the largest “law firm” in the state, with 108 attorneys in the Criminal Division. The Criminal Division is responsible for prosecuting most violations of state criminal laws and for providing legal services to criminal justice agencies.

Internship Description: An intern position with the Criminal Division offers an intensive clinical experience for students interested in developing courtrooms skills. Second year students are preferred. For the intern to appear in court and to qualify for a legal intern permit student must have completed at least one half of their course work for a law degree. Interns perform legal research, writing and courtroom work in felony and misdemeanor prosecutions, under the direction of experienced trial lawyers. Volunteer program features round trip air fare but no stipend.
