• A rich and increasing international student mobility :

The outgoing student mobility increases steadily

2011 was a record year with 61 students (D2-D3-D4) performing their medical internship (a two-month practical training) abroad in 14 different countries. (only 17 outgoing students in 1999)

Either in countries with which our Faculty of Medicine has signed an International Convention : Harvard in Boston, Temuco and Santiago in Chile, Montreal in Canada, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi in Vietnam,

Dakar in Senegal and Casablanca in Morocco

Or in other countries when the student has obtained a letter of acceptance from the head department of the hospital : Greece, New-Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, England, India, Argentina, Monaco…

In both cases an Internship Convention is signed and an internship report is done by the student

The Great annual ceremony of International Relations in May

It celebrates and promotes this outgoing mobility :

The students report on their medical internship via a powerpoint to share their unique and very enriching experience both on the medical and cultural side

The incoming mobility :

• Every year we welcome groups of international students (around 60 students) for practical internships in various medical departments thanks to our various international Conventions with Washington University (30 students each year from the USA), Nizhny Novgorod in Russia, Alexandria in Egypt, Temuco in Chile….

• About 50 European students coming each year to our Faculty for a two-month practical training

The Erasmus Program Celebration on March 5th 2012 of the 25th anniversary of the

Erasmus Program. Created in 1987 this program was reinforced by the Bologna Declaration signed in June 1999 by 29 countries. The aim is to create a European area of higher education thanks to the LMD reform (Degree, Master, Doctorate) and the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) that allow the validation of the studies abroad.

16 Erasmus partners Universities : Germany (Leipzig, Munich, Freiburg, Hanover, Heidelberg, Regensburg)

Italy (Genoa, Cosenza, Milan, Naples, Vercelli, Turin)

Bulgaria : Plovdiv

Belgium : Gent (only for postgraduate students)

Netherlands : Nijmegen (only for postgraduate students)

Incoming students : Every year our Faculty of Medicine welcomes 20 Erasmus students, mainly

from Germany (Freiburg, Hanover, Munich, Leipzig) and Italy (Turin,Naples)

Very few outgoing students

Why more incoming than outgoing students ?• Foreign students (especially German students) are bilingual, French

students have more difficulties to master foreign languages.

• Financial support is insufficient (Erasmus grant : 150 euros / month)

• Foreign students are interested in the practical medical training our Faculty offers (in particular in Gynecology and Pediatrics) which is less present in their country.

• French students focus all their energy on the ECN (Examen classant national), the selective exam at the end of their 6th year of study.

They prefer shorter internships of two months abroad.

• Lack of compatibility of the study program abroad with our own program

The desire to foster Eramus mobility

Free language courses for foreign students

Recent integration of our Faculty (September 18th, 2010) in the International Exchange Erasmus network (IESN)

Various cultural and sporting activities run by dynamic and dedicated students : cinema, ski, salsa, visit of the area, museums, international picnics, exchange of conversation…

Help in everyday life : Welcome day, housing, administrative procedure, means of transport…

Since 2008 : organization of the Medical Summer School This tripartite partnership between the Universities of Katowice (Poland),

Munich (Germany), and Nice (France) is a great source of interaction and mutal enrichment through the various teaching and cultural activities it offers.

This summer it took place in our Faculty from the 17th to the 24th of September 2011. Main Topic : infectious diseases.

The next Medical Summer School will take place in July 2012 in Munich. Main topic : allergology.
