Background of the Study

• In many aspects in life, people always associate maturity with old age. When someone is old enough then he is said to a grown up, meaning that he is mature. However, as the era of modern age continues, we can not simply tell the behavior of being an adult is determined by the age. This aspect of adultness can not be seen merely from his age, but also the changing of mind set from a childhood to a gentleman. Thus, it is interesting to observe how people is old yet not mature enough and also the opposite, young but responsible enough to be a full grown. In that case, I would like to reveal the insignificance of the nature of age in Benjamin Button’s character as reflected in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

• The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a short story written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and first published in Colliers Magazine during 1921. It was subsequently anthologized in his book, Tales of the Jazz Age, which occasionally is published as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Other Jazz Age Stories.

• The story is about a man who is born old and ages backwards.• The story explores the way that age dictates identity; how old

we are has quite a bit to do with who we are. Furthermore, it also reveals that not just where physical appearance is concerned.

• "Benjamin Button" reminds us that age is not, after all, just a number.

• In "Benjamin Button" it is abundantly clear that our physical age determined our character.
