Angela This interview is with my good friend EFT Master Lindsay Kenny You can find her sites here LKCoachingcom bull NAFEHorg Lindsay and I have known each other for some years now working together to produce products like her Ultimate Level I Workshop Workbook and EFT Audio CD series (she wrote I designed and created the ebook and CD covers) Now Irsquom really pleased to let you in on our interview where she shared as much helpful info as she could

So I welcome you Lindsay Kenny Thank you for being with me on this call today and Irsquom excited about what wersquore going to be doing

Lindsay Me too Angela thank you for having me and Irsquom excited about it as well Any time we can help somebody else avoid the mistakes wersquove made or learn from the lessons wersquove learned I take that opportunity

Angela Well thatrsquos pretty generous thatrsquos the basis of your business isnrsquot it

Lindsay Thatrsquos what I do



Angela Well letrsquos do a little background Yoursquove been doing EFT for how many years now

Lindsay Since 2000 so at this point 8 years

Angela 8 years and yoursquove had amazing success with EFT

Lindsay I have You mean using it as a tool that kind of success I have From the very beginning one of the things I did is try different approaches I do things a little bit differentmdashGaryrsquos not crazy about the fact that I deviate from his traditional thingmdashbut itrsquos still basic EFT I just tap with all the fingers on both sides of the body and I use all 14 meridians instead of just 9 of them It helps improve the effectiveness by about 56

Angela 56 You actually measured it

Lindsay Yes actually I did Think about it if yoursquore tapping 9 points but yoursquove got 14 and you pick up 5 points thatrsquos 56 of the 9 that yoursquore doing yoursquore almost doubling the effectiveness just there and by adding the liver point the wrist pointand the two on the top of the head yoursquore adding 6 points And yoursquore picking up stress anger grief anxietymdashand therersquos one other one that Irsquom forgetting at the momentmdashbut even those four or five things are things that we deal with all the time Stress anxiety anger grief frustration

Angela Well I agree with that and I use those points too with great success What is the area of your expertise

Lindsay Well I call myself a general practitioner but I find that I deal with a lot of trauma people who are stuck people who procrastinate in some way or anotherItrsquos not that I specialize in it but Irsquom particularly good at solving those issues getting people going on it Getting them back on track and getting them going I like to think that my specialty is in



training other people how to become effective accomplished experienced EFT practitioners taking them way beyond what they can learn with Garyrsquos DVDs

Angela Good that gives us some great background So how would you advise a newbie to go about creating a business if he or she wanted to create a viable business from the get-go

Lindsay First point of business is to get as much knowledge about EFT as possible And I know a lot of people think ldquoOh Gee EFTrsquos real simple you do a little tapping and it works really quickly and effectively and I can do this and make a practice out of itrdquoand technically you can

Thatrsquos what I did in the beginning I look back in horror (laughing) I bet you do too Angela letrsquos not be smug here

Zoe (my workshop partner) and I sometimes look back and go ldquoOh my gosh I canrsquot believe we were taking money from people with the informationWe were saying on every single point ldquoEven though I have this problem I love and accept myselfrdquo On every single point and then on every single finger and it took forever

We made a lot of mistakes So getting good trainingmdashand I donrsquot mean only watching the DVDs and passing the testsmdashI mean going to the live workshops and listening to teleclasses

Itrsquos really important to establish your expertise and knowledge base

Because if yoursquore competent and good at what you do you can make a lot of mistakes



professionallymdashlike with not having the right kind of web site or fancy email or letter headmdashand yoursquoll be fine because people donrsquot care nearly as much about that or letters after your name as they do in how well their issues are resolved

The better you are in EFT the better EFT practitioner yoursquoll become in spite of any marketing or

promotional ideas or whatever

And herersquos the scary thing I think most people donrsquot know how much they donrsquot know until they go to a workshop and learn all these additional ways to do EFTmdashshortcuts effective tools to usemdashand their practice takes off when they learn to do that

I have people who come to my Level 3 workshops saying ldquoIrsquove been practicing for 3 or 4 years already Irsquom not sure I need to do thatrdquo Even coming to Level 2 sometimes they leave astonished at how much more they learned about EFT as they learned the actual application of it and becoming a practitioner

So reading all the books you can read and reading all the articles you can read are absolutely great but going to a live workshop or working hands-on with a pracititioner is the best advice I can give to a new person

Angela I learned from watching Garyrsquos DVDs too but really my education was from doing all of the tons and tons of sessions afterwards with people just to get that people-expertise

Lindsay Right and we do that in my workshops I have people work with each other over and over and over again with our supervision because then yoursquore practicing with a safe



person that you can turn to and ask questionsas opposed to [just starting to work with] the public where yoursquore gonna go ldquoOops I donrsquot know how to handle thisrdquo

Somebodyrsquos been ritually abused ldquoOops what do I dordquo Because things that start off as a simple issue can often be collossally complex and way out of someonersquos league when theyrsquore beginning I always say that EFT canrsquot hurt people but it can retraumatize them if you donrsquot know what yoursquore doing and you can get in over your head and that happens all the time

My very first paying client was the most complex issue I ever had and Irsquove dealt with maybe 3000 clients by now and Irsquove never had anybody as horrible isnrsquot that funny He couldnrsquot tap because he was so sensitive he weighed 90lbsmdashnot by choicemdashhe was so skinny he was allergic to everything he was depressed and you name the illness and he had it And Irsquom going ldquoIf this is what itrsquos like I am screwedrdquo So it was kind of experience by fire

Angela besides building a really solid knowledge base and experience base I think itrsquos important to establish referrals from friends family colleagues And to build an email list which you can do by different ways onlinemdashby capturing emails by offering free things like you and I do or download this but give me your email address firstmdashthat sort of thing

Thatrsquos how Gary does itmdashhe gives away the manual [and gets peoplesrsquo email addresses for his newsletter] and now he has a gigantic email list

And then writing articles to set yourself up as an expert in some area of EFT or in EFT in general as a practitioner or as a coach but writing articles so you have some credibility

Angela So for people who arenrsquot familiar with the emailnewsletter thing you give away a freebie so people will sign up for your newsletter

Lindsay Yes or they can just get on your mailing list So if you donrsquot want to do a



newslettermdashI call mine Hot Flashes because itrsquos not a regular newslettermdashI send out announcements of upcoming events I give tips and they can either deliberately sign up on my site which puts them on my list

Or If they go to my free stuff page or my frequently asked questions page and I tell them ldquothis signs you up automatically on that newsletter and if you want to be off of it you just unsubscribe the next time you get onerdquo and that builds your list pretty quickly that way

Angela Now when you write an article what exactly do you to in order to get people to come back to your site and sign up

Lindsay Most of the articles that I write are for Gary Craigrsquos newsletter and when that gets published then he has links within he articles to my site and my email too so they can ldquocontact Lindsayrdquo

I have them come to my website rather than my email because usually on the email theyrsquore just saying ldquoWhat are your hours when do you work how much do you chargerdquo I want them to go to my website to get that information and once they get to my website then they are browsing around and therersquos different ways to capture their email With their permission of coursemdashyou donrsquot want to decieve anybody you want to let them know that theyrsquore going to be on a list and that they have the ability to get off of it quickly

Angela OK this may seem like a really silly question but there may be people out there that donrsquot know the answer and it is what is the advantage to having an email list

Lindsay Well then you have people who know who you are who think yoursquore credible for some reason they visited your website deliberately and signed up deliberately to hear from you So this is a captive audience This is not like a general mailing list that you could buy



online from xyz marketing spammers Inc Itrsquos a qualified list of people who know your name and know what you do So when you have something to promote or advertisemdashlike yoursquore putting on an event or whatevermdashyoursquove got a nice mailing list to tap into

Angela OK so the next question I have for youmdashand this is a really good one for you I knowmdashwhen you started charging for your services how did you get past the ldquoIrsquom not good as say maybe Gary Craig and maybe I ought to charge lessrdquo Did you even think ldquoI feel embarrassed to chargerdquo or anything like that

Lindsay I wouldnrsquot use the word embarrassed but certainly unworthy because I looked around at people like Pat Carrington Dr Alex Lees other people that have PhDs Carol Look other people that are on Garyrsquos website all the timemdashand thought ldquoIrsquom just a coach Irsquom just little old me donrsquot have any initials after my name and who am I to chargerdquo

And I started out at about $60 an hour I guess but within a year or two I was up to $125 I believe because I went from $60 to $75 to $90 to $112 and now I charge $160 an hour

But you know what got me over every single hump Because every time you raise your rate you go through this ldquoOh My Godrdquo Donrsquot you do that too

I tapped on it I just tapped on it What is this I know what Irsquom doing people like me Irsquom effective they pay a lot more for a traditional therapist One of the ways you can justify it in your mind is thinking ldquoGee I can probably resolve most peoplersquos issues in three or four sessionsrdquo I mean like all of them not just one thing I used to do two or three issues in one session

And so If you can take care of somebodyrsquos life pretty much get them turned around in the right direction feeling good and confident about themselves feeling love and peace of mindmdashone thatrsquos priceless and two even if it were possible (which I donrsquot think it is) it



would take months or years of traditional therapy to do that So they could spend thirty to forty thousand dollars easily in traditional therapy and not get the results they would get in three or four sessions with you paying a total of five or six hundred dollars whatever the case may be

I think of it as that Irsquom saving them money

Angela Well I think yoursquore absolutely right about that Letrsquos go back to Irsquom more effective than a traditional therapist when did you realize that

Lindsay The first time I did EFT Like most people Irsquove been to therapy and I know that you go there you talk about it for a whileand itrsquos good to unload And they say ldquoSo your Dad locked you in a closet how did that make you feelrdquo And you cry and cathart and leave and go ldquoWell how am I different than I was an hour ago and a hundred dollars before thisrdquo And the answer was usually not very different You might have an insight or somethingmdashwell no wonder you hate heights your brother threw you off of a cliff oh Yes thatrsquos right OK but I still have the fear of heights

No wonder yoursquore so sensitive to your boss yelling at you and being critical you have a Mom that was just like that and you leave going ldquoWell that was an interesting insight but Irsquom still sensitive when the boss yells at me and criticizes merdquo

But with EFT you get rid of the problem the core issue the thing thatrsquos causing the fear Not just realizing what caused it but you get rid of it With EFT you fix that



So that was the difference And it didnrsquot take me two seconds to realize that because in my own experience when I went in suicidal to a therapist thinking I was going to a traditional therapistmdashand I didnrsquot find this out Angela until just a few weeks agomdashthat that therapist had justshe was a typical marriage and family therapist I didnrsquot know that I just looked somebody up in the yellow pages when I was suicidalmdashand she had just done like a retreat or a workshop This was like on a monday when I saw her she had just gotten back from her very first introduction to EFT

She didnrsquot know what it was She literally had a cheat sheet in front of herrdquoletrsquos see the next point is OK the collarbone is about right here I think so tap there and say thisrdquo So she was terrible but I didnrsquot know it Irsquod never heard of it before I didnrsquot know what she was doing But it took me from being completely depressed and suicidal to feeling my old happy and joyful self again in a matter of about a half an hour

So I went ldquoHoly Cow what the heck was thatrdquo So my own personal experience was the first way that I knew that it was different from traditional therapy and every single time I have a client I have the same experiencemdashand get to relive it with them again as well

Angela Just an off the cuff here do you feel like that increased your feelings of self-worth

Lindsay Learning EFT you mean

Angela Learning how to do it and becoming well not becoming a good practitioner that too but being able to effect such amazing changes for people on a permanent basis

Lindsay Absolutely I think I went into it fairly confident but it helped me get rid of any old issues that I had Even though I thought I was fairly confident I didnrsquot realize how much I was still carrying aroundmdashwhich made my life heavier and I didnrsquot notice itmdashitrsquos sort of like



yoursquore carrying around fifty-eight pounds of extra weight you hardly notice it but if you lose it all of a sudden you really notice it

I used to backpack and carry a forty pound pack and you kind of get used to carrying that up the mountain and when Irsquod take it off it was like ldquoWow Irsquom lightrdquo So that happened to me But people leaving and going ldquoOh my gosh I canrsquot believe how differently I am leaving here than when I came in here I was hopeless and just didnrsquot think that anything would work and skeptical and my life has completely changedrdquo

It wasnrsquot ever an ego thing with me like ldquoLook what I can dordquo It was a ldquoWow look what EFT can do I wonder what else I can make it dordquo Itrsquos like having a smart dog thatrsquos been trained to sit and speak roll over and shake hands and stuff and you realize hersquos a smart dog but itrsquos a waste of his talent if you donrsquot figure out other cool things he can do with itmdashlike my husband says have him bring me a beer

And so EFT is not just a great tool itrsquos incredibly versatile It does so many more things than most people have any clue that it can do Thatrsquos why I want people to go to workshops so they can see some of the amazing things you can do with EFT and the amazing attachments

I gave the example in one of the articles for Garyrsquos mailing listmdashitrsquos a little bit like a Swiss Army Knife Somebody gave me one of those thumb-sized Swiss Army Knives and I went ldquooh look at this itrsquos got a cute little blade on itrdquo and then somebody else goes ldquooh look itrsquos got a little filerdquo and I go ldquooh isnrsquot that cuterdquo

Months later I also realized it had a toothpick and scissors and a screwdriver Wow What a cool little thingmdashand EFT is a little bit like that You realize that ldquoOK I can get rid of sadness and trauma and anger at my brotherrdquo and then later on you realize that you can lose weight with it and get rid of limiting beliefs and reprogram your subconscious brain and make yourself a great public speaker and play the piano and get rid of hiccups and calm



your stomachache and get rid of all those bad feelings from childhood and so much more Thatrsquos a heady feeling that you have that tool at your disposal

Angela Yes So letrsquos get back to the fee stuff here What fee charging advice can you give a newbie or someone who feels like they want to get more per hour but canrsquot ask for it

Lindsay Well I would tap on it because you can have it The market will kind of indicate what you can bear A mistake people often make is ldquoI live in a small town so people canrsquot afford it so I better not ask very much thirty-five dollars an hour or somethingrdquo But our market is really the world Probably thirty percent of my clients are from other countries

Yoursquore not limited to what your town will bear

So I would go visit other peoplersquos websites and see what theyrsquore offering but the range is quite largemdashI would say the lowest is maybe fifty dollars an hourmdashI donrsquot think Irsquove seen anybody less than that Seventy-five is kind of common for a new person a lot of people charge a hundred dollars even when theyrsquore fairly new and Irsquove heard of people charging two hundred twenty five an hour

I think Carol Look charges about two hundred an hourmdashitrsquos a hundred and fifty for a forty-five minute session so do the math on that one I think thatrsquos two hundred an hour Itrsquos just what the market will bear

The more experience you get the more you can charge



People will pay for your service if you are very effective and quickmdashif they can get through issues very quickly then theyrsquore willing to pay for it

If you notice that people are balking at your rate then I guess you could back off but

every time I raise my rate I actually get more clients

Herersquos a tip for rates If you feel a little guilty about charging $100 an hour then put together some packages for peoplemdashpackage rates Itrsquos really good for themmdashit helps it be more affordable for one thing but more importantly it gets them thinking about their ongoing health

So put together a package letrsquos say itrsquos three one-hour sessions for the normal (Irsquom just going to use a hundred because itrsquos easy to do the math) three hundred dollars So you offer them a package of three for two hundred seventy dollarsmdashI wouldnrsquot knock it off a whole lot

I figure it out mathematically by the hour mathematically that it makes sense And if people want to see what my packages are like kind of get an idea you can go to LKCoachingcomfees mdashjust go to my website and click on ldquofeesrdquo Or LKCoachingcomsessionshtml But if you go to the fees page you get more verbage (to take a look at)mdashI have different packages where people can buy three hour sessions or hour and a half sessions or a package of five sessions or even eight sessions two hour sessions forty-five minute sessionsgive them choices That way they can find something thatrsquos affordable for them They can buy individual sessions or buy the package rate People love that



Angela Well now you have a little trickmdashand I donrsquot know if you want to share this or notmdashbut a few years ago you called me up all excited and you said ldquoIrsquove figured out how to increase my income by fifty percent without raising my pricesrdquo Do you remember that

Lindsay Or getting additional clients or increasing your rates Of course I remember that

This is a big tip I give to my Level Three students and because I like you so much Angela Irsquom going to tell this to the people that are going to be getting this package And itrsquos so simple people go ldquoWell Yes I could have figured that outrdquo but most people donrsquot

You can increase your client-session income by fifty percent just by doing ninety minute sessions

instead of one-hour sessions

So if you charged a hundred dollars an hour yoursquod charge a hundred fifty and do a ninety minute session

Clients absolutely love it Because you canrsquot believe how much more you can get done in that extra half an hour Yoursquore just getting the momentum going alot of times at the end of an hour and then yoursquove got to say ldquowell our timersquos up Irsquoll see you in a couple of weeksrdquo This way you get that trust goingmdashespecially for new clients Yoursquove got some intake stuff to do in the beginning and background work and explanation whatever else you need to do and you get that momentum built up You want to leave them with a sense that theyrsquove accomplished a lot And letrsquos say in an hour session you accomplish sixty things one thing per minutemdashthatrsquos a



rediculous numbermdashbut letrsquos just say sixty units of issues in sixty minutes In an hour and a half session you would think you would do ninety units in a ninety-minute session but Irsquom saying you would probably get a hundred and ten or twenty units done because you can put alot of things together In other words itrsquos exponentially more effective to do ninety minute session

Without increasing the number of clients or increasing your rates yoursquore increasing your income by fifty percent and nobody balks at it They go ldquooh what a great ideardquo

Angela Irsquove experienced that too and itrsquos great because a lot of times like you say the client will be thinking ldquooh itrsquos up to an hour now and I have to go homerdquo and theyrsquore just about ready to spill the beans about their really deep stuff and you have to stop

Lindsay Yes especially if you do in-office sessions as opposed to phone sessions About seventy percent of my sessions are by phone it doesnrsquot mattermdashyou are still setting aside the time of your day to do something

The client is saying OK ldquoIrsquom not going to book something between 130 and 300 because I have a sessionrdquo But if itrsquos in person now theyrsquore saving the travel time and the getting dressed and shaving their legs and putting on deodorant and combing their hairmdashthey just sit down and get on the phone

Same thing for me I love it because I usually have the cat curled up on my lap and I have comfortable shoes or no shoes or Irsquom sitting out on my deck and have a headset on and I can have a cup of coffee and being very relaxed I donrsquot have to pluck my eyebrows or brush my teeth or anything if I donrsquot want to and you can be much more focused because there arenrsquot any distractions doing phone sessions But again a ninety minute session is much more effective and more profitable



Angela We talked a little bit about what you domdashwhy you focus on what you focus onmdashyou know the trauma and getting people through the procrastination

Lindsay Well only because Irsquove found that the majority of people come to me with very similar issues And letrsquos put it this way they come to me with symptoms about things procrastination being stuck self-sabatoge weight issues clutter low self esteem Those are all indicatorsthose are all symptoms of things that happened in somebodyrsquos childhood where they had parents who were critical abusive judgemental or otherways not supportive of them

And I found out years ago that ninety percent of the issues that I dealt with or the symptoms that I dealt with were the result of something in their childhood Repetitive negative input

So I developed a technique for dealing with that called Bundling Baggage Instead of looking for one core issuemdashwhich people drive themselves crazy going ldquowell when was that one magic time that shifted my liferdquomdashitrsquos usually a series of events that made a child feel unloved unwanted unheard unseen unacknowledged unloved and just not good enough

And so by dealing with and getting rid of that childhood trauma and abuse then it allows me to deal with all of these current symptoms and that little ball of things that I just mentionedmdashprobably those eight or ten symptomsmdashare the most common things that people come to me with Irsquod say anxiety and stress low self esteem being stuck and with that I put procrastination lack of focus canrsquot go anywhere move forward go back finish the dissertation get a new job get in this relationship out of this relationship that kind of thing Clutter weight issuesmdashthose are all lack of ___ whatever ___ or you had a parent who picked on you or abused you in some way So thatrsquos why I end up working on those things but then what I call a specialty is just something I do all the time so you get pretty good at handling those kinds of things



Angela And yoursquove developed a name for it too And the other thing that yoursquove develped a name for as well is giving your marvelous workshops

Lindsay Yes thank you thatrsquos my true lovemdashI do love giving the workshops I do Levels 1 2 and 3 (and I need to change the name of those probably to something more exciting than just basic intermediate and advanced or something along those lines)

And also I give Practitioner Workshopsmdashintensive nine days teaching someone how to become a practitioner from ground Level all the way to actually opening their doors the next day on the tenth day

Weight loss classes and abundance classes and teleclassesmdashI love doing group things like that because Irsquom affecting far more people with the same or even less energy

Angela Would you say that thatrsquos your biggest strength

Lindsay Thatrsquos my biggest love And yes probably my biggest strength I think Irsquom pretty good at private sessions too

But doing group things gives you a real kick theyrsquore fun to do theyrsquore profitable it gives you a product to sell and since this audio that wersquore doing now is for other practitioners I recommend that they do something like that too do audios or teleclasses or workshops or group sessions or something where they can affect more than just one person at a time

Yoursquoll never get rich or make a big enough dent in the world making a difference just doing one or two people at a time or doing five or six people or whatever it is It can just drain your energy It means the world to those individuals but believe me Irsquod rather affect thirty people in a workshop in a day than work on four or five people individually



Angela All of the people that Irsquoll be interviewing do group work like that toomdashitrsquos just a given that itrsquos not only good for your business but itrsquos great for the people too

Lindsay Itrsquos great for the world Yes Because yoursquore affecting more people

When I start my workshops I look out and I see all these faces I know that Irsquom going to see probably fifty percent of them in my Level Two and then maybe seventy five percent of those in my Level Three So I know that Irsquom establishing a long-term relationship with some of those people

Some of them come in as attorneys or acupuncturists or housewives or firemen or real estate brokers and then they say ldquoWow this is so much more fun than what Irsquom doing I want to do it professionallyrdquo I get a kick out of seeing peoplersquos transformation into becoming practitioners Wersquore putting out a lot of practitionersmdashIrsquove probably trained close to a thousand now

Angela How do you make this pay for you I know a lot of people who give workshops who think ldquoOh I better not charge muchrdquomdashhow did you decide what to charge for your workshops

Lindsay Well Irsquove done my research I guess I do a lot of research but I never think of myself as being that type of person analyticalmdashI just go onlinemdashand in my research on Garyrsquos site I looked up the workshops Some are in California and some around the country as well and I started seeing what people were charging

At the time it was around a hundred fifty dollars I added a Level one workbook (which you so delightfully illustrated and created Angela thank you very much) and so I added another twenty five dollars to the price of the workshop



For the past several years Irsquove been charging 17500 for a Level One and 24500 for a Level Two and then 49500 for a Level Three And they are one two and three days respectively

I donrsquot have anybody balk at that I will tell you one time last year we did a 75 dollar Level One instead of 17500

It was 75 dollars and then if they wanted to buy the workbook they paid an extra 2500 Well we had a hundred people in that class That was the largest Level One ever to my knowledge I was shocked And then it was the biggest Level Two and the biggest Level Three ever

And I went ldquoOh Hmmrdquo Because you make a lot more money on Level Two and Three so we may very well drastically drop the basic class price and get bigger classes putting more people into the Level Two and Three Thatrsquos something that we are just on the cusp of talking about and doing

I hate screwing up the market for anybody else but if the point is getting more people trainedmdashand we actually made more money in that class that we dropped to 75 dollarsmdashwe made twice as much as one that we charge 175 dollars for Because we got more people in

Angela It also coincides with peoplersquos perception of the economy nowadays where they think they donrsquot have that much money to spend

Lindsay Right this is a good time to say ldquoThis is my own economy-boosting thing that Irsquom willing to drop my pricesrdquo Itrsquos totally unrelative I thought that everybody that offered a service or product in the United States dropped their prices by ten percent we could beat recession right now but of course not everybody would do that and some people would suffer but itrsquos the same thing And everybody all of a sudden said letrsquos charge a hundred dollars ninety-nine dollars for Level Ones for the rest of this yearmdashwe would probably train



thousands and thousands how to do EFT So thatrsquos my theorymdashdrop the price on that initial one and thatrsquos the direction that Irsquom kind of going now

Angela Do you outsource or have business partners or otherwise share the load with other people

Lindsay This is an easy quick question for me Angelamdashyes I did start sharing the load with somebody else because I just couldnrsquot handle the load

So I have somebody who handles my websitemdashI developed it and edit it every day make changesmdashbut she does some of the more difficult technical things Shersquos with B amp B Media and shersquos just terrific Her namersquos Virginia and if anybody wants her contact information feel free to email me about that (LindsayLKCoachingcom)

And I use Katherine a virtual assistant to do my scheduling and calendar which just saves me tons of time I pay her 40 dollars an hourmdashand when Irsquom making 16000 an hourmdashbecause when people are scheduling their time as you know they want to tell you their whole storymdashrdquowell the problem is da-da-da how many sessions will that takerdquo And itrsquos ldquoI canrsquot do it Tuesday because I have to pick up my brother from the airport and take my kids to the dentist and I think my kid has tordquo I donrsquot want to hear their schedule I donrsquot have patience for it

Irsquom in California she lives in Florida but we have an online calendar that we share that works really well and thatrsquos probably one of the things that has helped me be more effective

I also have somebody who edits my material and somebody new whorsquos done my Level Two class who really loves EFT needs the money is great at that sort of thing (graphics)shersquos great and I love using her I use a computer guy and sometimes I have somebody who comes in and helps me with organizational things which I think Irsquom pretty good at But



when you have another person look at something they see things that you donrsquot always see So I recommend that when you start making good money that you look at having other people help you with things help you in any way that they can Itrsquos worth paying if you pay them less than yoursquore making per hour then yoursquore ahead of the game

Angela Well I totally agree with thatmdashif I did my transcriptions Irsquod be bald Irsquod tear my hair out So do you advertise do you use articles blogsmdashhow do you market your websites

Lindsay Well up until recently most of it was on Gary Craigrsquos website But since hersquos no longer letting us list workshops there Irsquove come up with an alternativemdashor helped put together an alternativemdashand that is EFTInternationalcom

Itrsquos where Nick Ortner the producer and developer of TryItOnEverythingcom is going to be listing workshops

I have tried every form of advertising For me advertising generally for EFT doesnrsquot work because itrsquos too hard to describe in a written ad or any kind of media It doesnrsquot translate well How do you describe EFT in an advertisement

Irsquove tried business cards scattered all over the planet written adsmdashradio ads TV ads ads in weekliesmdashthose little throwaway magazines you pick up in Starbucks that have the ads on the back of themwhat else just about everything

In fact we did a really nice color ad in Acupuncture Today Their market is acupuncturemdashthey know the meridian system and my business partner Zoe is an acupuncturist so we had this great ability going into it We just said ldquoHerersquos a needle-free pain-free way to deal with aches and pains stress anxietymdashstuff that acupuncturists generally deal with a whole lotmdashand allergies sensitivitiesrdquo And that ad went out to about I think their readership is something like 40 or 50000 It was a national admdasha quarter of a page ad We didnrsquot get one



single frigginrsquo call on it Much less anybody that showed up for a workshop

One time I did a 1000-piece mailing and got one response One person in the workshop out of a thousand high quality mailings to acupuncturists

And I tried mailings to registered nurses therapists health care professionalsmdashwhich used to be kind of a specialty of mine So I donrsquot think advertising works in such a niche market

Angela Instead of advertising EFT what would have happened if you said workshop on Road Rage or

Lindsay I never said EFT I said come to a Stress-Anxiety Workshop or How to Deal with Fears and Phobias Irsquod pick different little specialties and try it that way because I didnrsquot want to have to try to explain EFTmdashit just didnrsquot work

Now one thing that does work if you can find it itrsquos hard to find the right person is publicity But itrsquos hard to find the right publicist who can get news releases and articles and things like that done for you

I think today the internet is the way to go with EFT because there are lots of blogs and articles and YouTubes and Garyrsquos site is still useful to get articles published there That really got my career going Thatrsquos the direction Irsquom going and I think most new practitioners should look at just internet marketingmdashand I donrsquot mean spam at allmdashjust different ways on the internet to market yourself

Angela When you send in an article to Gary what email address do you use

Lindsay I think he wants articles to go to GaryCraigemofreecom or Tinaemofreecom



Thatrsquos his daughter thatrsquos where most things go and she screens it and sends it on to his private email He gets thousands of emails a day in his general email box so if you send them to Tinaemofreecom shersquoll get the articles (right now it takes between 2 and 6 months to see it in the newsletter)

Be sure you write up a little blurb about yourself Angela does workshops and has a private practice in Hawaii and has a workshop coming up in September and add your website and email address He masks it with links but he does add them for you if you remember to add them yourself

Angela Do you ever submit your articles to websites like ArticleMarketercom or EzineArticlescom

Lindsay I havenrsquot but Irsquove been looking for other sourcesmdashlike therersquos one called SelfHelpcom and TryItOnEverythingcom is going to start taking articles In fact the very first article is going to be minemdashcoming out soonmdashbecause I contacted them and said ldquoWell yoursquove got a lot of audio why not do articlesrdquo I think itrsquos on Clutter or the 12 Tips for Using EFT I have another tip for you toomdashFor the people listening to this

I highly recommend that new people start with a specialtymdashname a specialty

It doesnrsquot mean that you have to only do that forever But find a specialty



I want to define the difference between a specialty and a niche

A Specialty is a type of issue that yoursquore good at something that you feel comfortable with

It could be traumas womenrsquos issues phobias public speaking anger stress anxiety stress weight loss abundance fear addictions grief sexual addictions smokingmdashthe list is endless because therersquos so many issues you can deal with with EFT So pick one that you think yoursquore good at that you find kind of interesting And then choose a niche

A niche is a market segment

Thatrsquos the kind of people that you want to deal with it could be women pregnant women post-partum women or kids whorsquove been bullied teachers single moms expectant moms EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) or Police Officersmdashor herersquos onemdashMRI centers where people have phobias

And so you go to them and say ldquoHey Irsquove got a great technique thatrsquos a relaxation technique that I can teach you and your staff to use that will calm people down in minutes before you ship them into one of those tubesrdquo Theyrsquoll kiss your feet

Thatrsquos such an easy way to get started Or Momsmdashanything that has to do with Mom issues would be a great way to get started Or studentsmdashyou can go to schools and say ldquoIrsquove got a techniquerdquomdashyou can go to the counsellor or principalmdashrdquothat I can work with children



of alcoholic parents or children under the age of 12 or children who are bullied or children who bully or teenagers or that kind of stuffrdquo

Put the niche and the specialty together It allows you to go to somebody and say ldquoherersquos what I do I work with teenagers with zits or I work with Teenage girls that donrsquot feel good about themselves and have low self-esteem (or whatever it is) and so let me do a little study group in your school or in your association or your companyrdquo or something like that

As opposed to saying ldquoI have this great technique that works on everything You wouldnrsquot believe what it does Oh my Godrdquo Because EFTrsquos too big and itrsquos hard to describe and itrsquos sort of unbelievable

So when I started I went to a Drug and Alcohol Clinic and I just opened the door and asked for the administrator And I said ldquoHi I work with psychologists and health-care professionals to teach them how to deal with their patients and clients who are dealing with addictionsrdquo She said ldquoWhat do you meanrdquo And I said ldquoItrsquos a different techniquemdasha different way to look at addictions than just their bodies are just physically addicted Itrsquos dealing with the emotional reasons they got addicted in the first placerdquo And she goes ldquoOh My God Thatrsquos greatrdquo

And so I did pro bono work for them for years It was very fulfilling and I got a lot of businessmdashwhich wasnrsquot my intention it was just my pro bono give back to the community thingmdashbut I got business and I gained a lot of experience and I really enjoyed doing it

Every time I left I was on cloud nine Unfortunately they never gave me an allotted amount of time to make much differencemdashit just gave those people a glimmer of hope of how they could deal with their cravings and addictions once they got out of theremdashbut thatrsquos a great market



Then in two years I saw the little classes going from 8 in a class to 40 or 50 in a class Soccer moms right next to somebody who was tattooed and toothless and pierced and was on methamphetamine and so was the soccer mom

A niche or specialty gives you a handle that I think is much needed when yoursquore first starting because EFT is such a big subject to get your hand around

Angela Yes itrsquos really important to have some kind of something to get you started and you donrsquot have to stay there

Lindsay Right that wasnrsquot my only specialty that wasnrsquot the only thing I did but I didnrsquot tell them that You still continue to do EFTmdashwhatever you want to do with it

Carol Look is a good example she says ldquoherersquos my specialties abundance weight issues smoking cessationrdquo Food addictions and smoking have the same causesmdashand so thatrsquos what she specializes in and it happens to be two of the same things that I specialize in too Weight issues and abundance stuff Because you find that once you clear up peoplersquos problems then they want to know now ldquohow do I get into a relationship how do I fix my love life how do I lose weight how do I get the job I wantmdashthat sort of thingmdashstart making the money I want to makerdquo

Angela What were some serious money or business mistakes that yoursquove made that could be avoided by a newbie or even a seasoned practitioner

Lindsay Well the advertising is the big one That doesnrsquot meanmdashI wouldnrsquot recommend that they didnrsquot advertisemdash

I canrsquot think of any serious other mistakes other than not knowing what the heck I was doing



when I began That was the big mistake starting off thinking I knew what EFT was and what I could do with it and not so thatrsquos why I highly recommend that people do workshops or teleclasses so they can learn so much more than they know

Angela Are there any particular questions that yoursquore asked often by people you train or work with

Lindsay Yes all the questions yoursquove been asking memdashall the time I hear these questions in my workshops all the time I have a whole segment on this kind of thing

Big one is how do you get clients How do you get yourself out there how do you make money what shall I charge Another one is how do I take money from people if Irsquom going to do a phone sessionmdashhow do I get their money

So getting a credit card merchant account is really important I do all of my transactions onlinemdashpeople pay securely online Setting up a shopping cart Angela as you know is a pain in the buns but itrsquos worth it in the long run

Paypalmdashyou can work it kind of without setting up a merchant accountmdashyou can just have people pay on paypal

Here was a mistake I found out early I had somebody in one of my first sessions and just said ldquowell send me a checkrdquo I never got the check and when I called and said ldquowherersquos the checkrdquo They said ldquoOh you know I donrsquot think I got that much out of thatrsquo ldquoWell you still owe me the moneyrdquo ldquoNo I donrsquot think sordquo

Angela Thatrsquos happened to me too But it only happens once



Lindsay Thatrsquos right it never happens again So get the money up frontmdashI have people prepay When they set up a thing with Katherine she says ldquoOK good now go online pick out what you want to domdashwhat package or individual sessionsrdquo and I get notified of it and it gets handled So get the money thingmdashhow yoursquore going to collect itmdashout of the way

Angela Now what happens if somebody whorsquos prepaid really does feel like they havenrsquot gotten the value have you ever had that happen

Lindsay I used to way back when I used to guarantee sessions I had more complaints then and I never had any after I stopped offering them Because I think in peoplersquos minds a lot of people go into it thinking ldquoIrsquom just going to see what happens here and I can always get my money backrdquo

I think they tend to discount what theyrsquove just learned and they go back and ldquoWell gee I just spent $24000 and I can get that back it wasnrsquot worth that I can get that backrdquo

So I had two refunds in my first year when I was guaranteeing And then another practitioner said ldquoThat makes you responsible for their results Yoursquore not responsible theyrsquore responsible Yoursquore responsible for giving them the information and the homework and telling them how to do EFT and all that stuff but theyrsquore responsible for what they do with it Donrsquot guarantee itrdquo

Garyrsquos the one that said guarantee it and I had thought that was a good idea I donrsquot do that anymore and since then Irsquove never had anybody even hint that they wanted their money back or say ldquoGee I didnrsquot really get anything out of thisrdquo

Angela And I know that you do this toomdashwhen you start out a session with somebody you set parameters like what would your results look like what would that feel like letrsquos rate



that and make a note of it so that you know that yoursquove gotten some results by the time wersquore done

Lindsay Something like thatmdashwe write down all the things they want to go through and we give them intensity numbers

At the end I go back and say ldquowell letrsquos see how wersquore doing When we started you were very depressed how are you feeling Oh great good and you were joyless how are you feeling now good and you had all this anger you said yoursquod never be able to let go of at your husband your ex wherersquos that OK canrsquot even get a charge on itrdquo

So I do go back and do a recap and it reminds them of how far wersquove come I think thatrsquos really a valuable thing because their head is swimming at the end

I go very quickly and we go over a lot of stuff and their head is just swimming at the endmdashthey donrsquot even know what just happened they just know they feel different You know how that is

Angela Yes I do If you had three or more other tips tricks strategies or tactics that you would tell somebody that wanted to build a successful business what would they be

Lindsay Well I do a couple things that I think are important that people miss but it took me a while to figure out I needed to do One is

I have people fill out an intake form before they come in



Just their name address and all that pertinent information Then I ask them a series of questions about themselves that draw out a lot of information that saves us a lot of time in the session and it also is a red flag for peoplemdashI actually call it an application an application intake formmdashif I see that theyrsquore on four or five mood-altering medications I wonrsquot take them

If I hear or see that they are suicidal I wonrsquot take them If I see that theyrsquore psychotic bipolar schitzophrenic been diagnosed as some other psych-thingI donrsquot think for me personally as a coach that I should be dealing with people that might hurl themselves off of a bridge tomorrow I donrsquot want the liability or the responsibility thatrsquos just my personal thing

Yes EFT works on suicidesmdashthatrsquos why I went in I think it works on people that have psychotic disorders but the risk factor goes up exponentially about being sued or causing harm or in your frustration Level and therersquos tons of other people that you can be working on

My rule of thumb is get that intake form and draw the line in the sand somewhere that yoursquore comfortable with

My line is that I work with people whose lives pretty much function but they have serious issues they need to

deal withmdashbut theyrsquore not dysfunctional people

When I see on that intake formmdashI go ldquoMy God this person is seriously ill physically theyrsquore bankrupt theyrsquore three hundred pounds overweight and theyrsquore just a complete messrdquo



Personally I donrsquot want to take the energy to drag them out of hellmdashand Irsquove done that with a number of them and itrsquos very rewardingmdashbut Irsquod rather affect a lot of other people at one time thanitrsquos just a personal preference

So getting an intake form is one thing Ahead of time I email it to them and have them email it back (And please donrsquot call me and ask me for a copy of that intake form yoursquoll have to go through my Level Three Workshop)

The second thing is confirmation letters with these points Thank you for setting an appointment with me Herersquos the time and day of our first appointment Yoursquoll need a headset if wersquore going to talk on the phone Download the tapping points Herersquos a number if you need to reach me directly to change the appointment We have a cancellation policy 24 hours advance or yoursquoll be billed for the call Sorry but my time is valuable and irreplaceable Please respect my time and Irsquoll respect yours I start on time We end on time

Pre-framing what the first appointment is going to be like so wersquore not wasting time going ldquoOK now what is it you want to work on today and who are you and let me get your phone numberrdquo You know that kind of stuff

Now you have tons of background on them it saves them time saves you time gives you a red flag if needed and then by sending the confirmation letter you also are pre-framing what they can expect in the session so yoursquore not wasting time



So you can say ldquoOK letrsquos start on the Karate Chop I want you tordquo and they donrsquot go ldquoWhatrsquos the Karate Choprdquo I have them go to my website and if theyrsquore new to EFT I have them read up on it ahead of time

I donrsquot want to spend my session teaching them how to do EFT

Another thing is Audio Acrobatmdashthatrsquos what you and I both use Angela to record our calls I think recording the sessions is very importantmdashto protect yourselfalthough Irsquove never had anything happen been threatened with a suit or had a complaintmdashbut yoursquove got a recording there

Record all your sessions-live and telephone

I even record my live sessions with Audio Acrobat You send it to your client latermdashthey can listen to it for the tidbits that you happened to give them test their work by tapping again you can put your homework on there so they donrsquot have to jot it downAudio Acrobatrsquos great (AudioAcrobatcom)

And then the other thing is that personally I think

my Bundling Baggage Technique is the most valuable technique that I use in EFT



Other practitioners say the same thing They use it and it makes their sessions so much more effectively The only thing Irsquoll commercialize in this is to say go to my website and buy the 25 dollar Bundling Baggage Techniquemdashand it will save you a ton of time in your sessions in your practice in your own life and your clients absolutely love it

Yoursquore not dealing with one two three little individual incidents in your childhood yoursquore putting them all together in a very effective way and dealing with them quickly And itrsquos just blowing peoplersquos minds You can also use it to bundle together traumas and limiting beliefs and fears and all kinds of things that we normally would do individuallymdashyou know find a core issue be specificmdashthis is a way that you can do the opposite on certain things and be ten times more effective at it And painless toomdashitrsquos like a tearless trauma thingmdashitrsquos very painless to do it that way So thatrsquos a huge tip to be able to use Bundling Baggage like that

Angela I know that Irsquove used it myselfmdashwhen we talked about what I was going through last yearmdashiit was like this is awesome

Lindsay Well Good A couple more things

List yourself on every website that allows you to list yourself

As long as Garyrsquos taking practitioners and you qualify do it on his site emofreecom Do it at my listing site NAFEHorg On EFTinternationalcom

EFT Master Dr Pat Carrington (at least for now) has listingsmdashI think thatrsquos EFTUpdatecom although she may have changed that I donrsquot know



And on SelfGrowthcommdashit has individual practitioners and there are massage therapists all other kinds too but you might as well get on there You never know whatrsquos going to be picked up on Google

Irsquod get on emofreecom and anything else that you can to get your name out there

You just never know I got a client the other day who signed up for my Practitionersrsquo IntensivemdashI charge 1900 dollars for that nine day intensivemdashand who came from the EFTMastersWorldwidecom EFT masterscom will be good as well

We pay 5000 dollars a month to be on that website and I begrudgingly pay that every month but I just got a 1900 dollar lead from it So pay for that 50 dollars for a few monthsmdashyou never know when yoursquore going to get that one lead thatrsquos going to make the difference in your business

Therersquos one that one of my Level Three student is putting up toomdashI think itrsquos called EFTProNetworkcommdashIrsquom not sure itrsquos up yet at the time of this recording but by the time you get it out there to people it will be OK I think Irsquom about done
