Thanks for giving backAADe lafayette chapter members,
greetings and welcome back from another great louisiana summer; where you are guaranteed to get plenty of hot, humid weather, little to no rain and dead grass. i hope everyone had a safe and relaxing summer and all of your families are in good health.
i would like to begin my first official president's letter with a resound-ing message of "thANKs."
thanks to all past chapter presidents, board members and committee chairper-sons that have graciously volunteered
their time to keep a watchful eye over this chapter's best interests. their efforts have allowed the AADe lafayette chapter to develop a strong financial portfolio that is capable of maintaining a consistent scholarship program through this industrial downturn.
thanks to all members, sponsors, volunteers and organizations who help to

sustain the AADe lafayette chapter with funds for scholarships, endowments and community programs.
your contributions go a long way in relieving a large portion of the financial bur-den that students face for tuition, books and fees. As a former Ul student and a past AADe scholarship recipient, it gives me a great sense of pride to be given the opportunity to “give
back” to the organization and community that was there in my time of need.
for the 2009 fall semester, your support and contribu-tions have allowed the lafayette chapter to fund $42,500 in petroleum engi-neering scholarships. this is by far the largest scholar-ship contribution that this organization has ever committed to for a single semester.
in addition to the strong scholarship funding cam-paign, the AADe lafayette chapter has continued its financial commitment to the
University of louisiana at lafayette petroleum engineering mud lab for upgrades, renovations and equipment purchases. in the course of the next two fiscal years, the lafayette chapter will continue to provide installment payments on the $250,000 renovation project. this project was a major success because of the over-whelming support from the AADe National chapter, AADe New orleans chapter, spe, Api, iADc, Knight companies, lafayette oilman's sporting clays shoot inc., halliburton and chevron.
in closing, i would like to end this message with my own personal flair and a
little bit of humor: Boudreaux and
thibodeaux go to see a movie. Boudreaux, in the middle of the movie, turns to thibodeaux and says, "Betcha five bucks he falls off da horse."
"you're on," says thibodeaux. sure enough, the guy in the movie falls off his horse. thibodeaux hands his friend the five bucks.
Boudreaux admits, "i've seen this movie before. i knew he'd fall off da horse." he hands him back the money.
thibodeaux tells him, "i've seen this movie before, too. i just didn't think he'd be stupid enough to fall off his horse again!"

interpretation products for improved drilling efficiency and formation evaluation.
prior to joining schlumberger, Jack worked as a petrophysicist for Bp in
the rock properties and seis-mic calibration group, and then in the enhanced oil recovery group of pennzoil e&p company. Jack holds a bachelor's degree from washington and Jefferson college, and master's of science and ph.D. degrees
in geology from the University of south carolina. he is a past presi-dent of spwlA (2006-07) and a member of spe, AApg and scA.
schlumberger "ecoscope" multi-function lwD service integrates a full suite of for-mation evaluation, well placement and drilling opti-mization measurements into a single 26-foot collar. this new design reduces risks, increases the confidence and enhances operational effi-ciency in your data interpre-tation and production and reserves calculations.
ecoscope service, now running the orion ii teleme-try platform, is capable of transmitting real-time data at up to 120 bps, including multiple real-time images, without affecting the high resolution of the measure-ment curves. Bottom hole Assembly (BhA) flat time is reduced, and BhA reliabili-ty is increased with fewer connections.
