Lean documents for start-ups (shareholders agreements/investment agreements) Model documents / standards can substantially contribute to make venture investments in start-ups more efficient, provided they are accepted by the relevant players (particularly the lawyers) and the investors’ and entrepreneurs’ communities. In some jurisdictions, efforts have been undertaken or are being undertaken to create ‘lean’ or ‘light’ model documents which are acceptable by both investors and start-ups/entrepreneurs. A working group of specialised lawyers from many of the most important European jurisdictions have analysed whether and in which areas, despite different national legislations, it would be possible and meaningful to establish a pan-European standard for lean documents for investments in start-ups.

In this session, the results of this work will be presented and then discussed by all delegates.

Unauthorised accommodation agentsIt has been brought to our attention that there are multiple companies contacting past attendees, claiming to represent the IBA, offering ‘assistance’ with registration and hotel bookings.

International Bar Associationthe global voice of the legal profession

The International Bar Association (IBA), established in 1947, is the world’s leading organisation of international legal practitioners, bar associations, law firms and law societies.

The IBA influences the development of international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession throughout the world. It has a membership of more than 80,000 individual lawyers and more than 190 bar associations and law societies spanning over 170 countries.

Inspired by the vision of the United Nations, the IBA was founded in the same spirit, just before the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed in 1948.

The IBA covers all practice areas and professional interests, providing members with access to leading experts and up-to date information, enabling them to better represent their clients’ interests.

Through its various committees, fora and task forces, the IBA facilitates the exchange of information and views among its members as to laws, practices and professional responsibilities relating to the practice of law around the globe.

European Regional Forum overviewThe European Regional Forum was established in 1989 to provide a focus originally on the work undertaken by the IBA in developing the practice under changing legal systems of lawyers in Eastern and Central Europe. The forum was also intended to act as a channel for IBA communication with the bar associations of these local lawyers.

Closely Held and Growing Business Enterprises Committee overviewThe mission of the Closely Held and Growing Business Enterprises Committee is to address issues of particular interest to start-ups, owner-managed, closely held and family businesses and their legal advisors, and to organisations with ambitions for growth.
