BB Capers 2013

5th,6th,7th Dec 2013 - Lasswade Centre

Bonnyrigg Boys' Brigade have been running their song and laughter show, BB Capers, since 1964. It was founded by BB Officers,

Jimmy Spence and Ross MacRae. This year they were inspired to donate all proceeds from the three night show to Reverse

Rett by eight year old, Sophie Spence. Sophie is the Great Granddaughter of Jimmy Spence who co-wrote the very first show back

in December 1963.

Jill visited the company section a couple of weeks before the show and told us about her daughter Sophie.

Lasswade centre was opened only in the summer - we were fortunate to be able to use such a great venue and over 3 nights we

packed an audience of over 800. The jam packed show had officers and boys from all three sections involved in sketches,

entertainment and of course the company choir. Joining us this year were local groups KIC Dance, The Friday Night Music

Project, Little Voices Big Stars and many more...the cast and crew amounted to over 150!

The show raised over £3,500 for Reverse Rett - a fantastic amount - thank you everyone for supporting us and the worthwhile

cause.

Tommy Lawson has been the Producer for the past 15 years. "In past years we have given to charities at home and abroad

helping to build a school in Kenya, the local Riding (where wee Sophie goes on a Saturday) and we raised money to put four

village children through school in Mumbai... and visited them! We do the shows for three reasons.... as a community service to

the people of Bonnyrigg, to allow young people to perform and give to others and thirdly to raise funds for (usually children's)

charities.

“Sophie’s great grandfather was such an inspirational figure in our home town. Both Jimmy Spence and his wife Cathy were well

known in the local community and looked after countless youngsters at various activities including BB camps. When the Capers

Team learned of Jill and Alan’s fund raising for Reverse Rett, we thought that we could lend a hand. Not only did we have great

fun with Capers 2013, we also managed to raise some funds and make local people aware of Rett research and the journey

towards a cure"

Stedfast Association – Edinburgh, Leith & District

Over the past two or three years a Steering Group under the Chairmanship of Bill Syson, former Treasurer of the old Edinburgh Battalion, has successfully worked towards the establishment of a Stedfast Association aligned with the Edinburgh Leith & District Battalion. At its first Annual General Meeting in June of 2013 the Steering Group was replaced by a Management Committee and the new Association formed. The general aim of the Stedfast Association is To further the Object of the Boys’ Brigade and to foster the spirit of comradeship between past and present members of the Brigade and to render service to others. This is achieved primarily by providing a meeting point for ex-members who wish to retain contact with each other and maintain a supportive interest in the work of current Companies and the Battalion The embryonic association has thirty three members under the direction of a Management consisting: Jim Wood President Gregor Cowan Vice President Alastair Knowles Secretary Norman Arthur Treasurer David Lamb Events Organiser
