she has been on the
Major Rich who introdu-ced our speaker today, Bernice Washington. Am-ong her other accomplishments,
Advisory Board of the Salvation Army for twenty-one years. She said she has been a Paul Harris Fellow, awarded to her by the Dal-las Rotary Club. She said she be-lieves that God created Rotary because of their service to others. “Service Above Self” means you are either committed or your not. Serving other people changes your life. Your life can run you, rather than you running your life. It is difficult to keep standing tall, when the world is trying to make you small. She said her mother and father were committed to mak-ing their children all that they could be. They said that life is about choices and it is up to you to make the best choice. She said her fa-ther had made each of his children a proposi-tion: he would put them through college once or get them out of jail twice. Her parents said they didn't care what their children wanted to do, but whatever it was, be the best at what you choose. Quality goes in to what you do before your name goes on it. Each of us stands on the shoulders of those who went before. She said she stood on the shoulders of her mother and father, that (cont on page3)
man has made the chili; he works overnight to get it ready. The recipe includes fifty pounds of onions! Orville Salmon gave the invocation, and then led the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star Spangled Banner.” It was C. C. Collie's ninety-seventh birthday, and he was sung “Happy Birthday.” Our visitors and guests were introduced, including Majors Jonathan and Bar-bara Rich, Commanders for the North Texas Area. Kyle Marmillion introduced our Mar-ketplace Advertiser of the week, The Highland Park United Methodist Church. Along with their major campus at Mockingbird and Hillcrest, they have satellite campuses on Munger in East Dallas, at The Grove, at The Square and soon at The House of Blues. At the new Tolle-son Family Activity Center, they are increasing their ministry for persons with special needs.
PP Paul Pirok called the Annual Meeting of the club to order for the purpose of electing the officers for the 2020-21 Rotary year. After introducing the proposed slate of officers, they were approved by acclimation.

THOUGHTS ON . . .
The governmentʼs view of the econ-omy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
~ Ronald ReaganNeither a borrower or a lender be. For loan oft loses both itself and friend; And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry [economy].
~ William ShakespeareActs of sacrifice and decency without regard to whatʼs in it for you create ripple effects. Ones that lift up families and communities, that spread opportunity and boost our economy. ~ Barak ObamaThere are 10^11 stars in the gala-xy. That used to be a huge number. But itʼs only a hundred billion. Itʼs less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers.
~ Richard FeynmanThere can be no real individual freedom in the presence of economic insecurity.

On behalf of the VA North Texas Health Care System, Dallas VA Medical Center pa-tients and staff, we would like to extend our ap-preciation to you for your donation of hosting and providing a dinner from Bakerʼs Ribs for families and guests at Fisher House, located on campus of Dallas VA Medical Center.
her mother could see a tunnel of hope through despair. She said to remember that you are no better than anybody else, but that nobody is better than you. She said there is a price to pay for success; there will be the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, but you must stay in the game. She said she is a proud American. It doesn't matter if we came on the Mayflower or in a slave ship, we are all in the same boat now.
