On behalf
of the whole EUSA community let
me express my appreciation for
having beeninvited here.
Dear Friends, I am happy to greet you at the 13th Basketball Championship in Koper, Slovenia! On behalf of the whole EUSA community let me express my appreciation for having been invited here. I value the opportunity to share with you the upcoming emotions of joy and excitement, which all of us expect from this event.
It’s a pleasure for me to see, that so many young people gathered here are keen on sport and support the ideals of fair play, equal opportunities, volunteering and education through sport, fostered by EUSA.
19 European UniversitiesChampionships to take place this year, the biggest number ever in EUSA history, give a great chance for student-athletes to test their skills and feel a part of European university sport community. Being here we all serve a common goal - uniting cultures through sport and advertising the power of mind, body and will.
Thus, I want to thank the Organizing Committee and other communities involved in the hosting of the Championship for a great job they have done.

The Sečovlje and Strunjan saltspans the most northern situated salt flats in the Mediterranean.
The salt is produced in the traditional way based on a 700-year-old method that harmonizes man and nature.
Over the centuries, a unique habitat has formed for halophytic plants and animals and migrating birds. The cultural heritage, which reflects centuries of work by saltmakers, is extremely rich.
On the short Slovenian Coast there are today only few coastal wetlands, pertaining to the short deltas of the Istrian rivers and brooks. At one time there were more, as the delta marshes and bays were shaped into the saltpans, which were to be found on the verges of all the coastal towns (salt pans in Koper, Izola, Strunjan, Lucija and Sečovlje).

The cultural

is extremely rich.
Nowadays the saltpans exist only in Strunjan and Sečovlje, beside these can be considered as the coastal marsh wetlands the Strunjan lagoons (Stjuža and Pretočna), both Fiesa lakes, Škocjan marshes and the delta of river Rižana. All the Slovenian coastal wetlands are thus the work of human endeavour, but still in concordance with nature.

Martina Osterman,
University of Ljubljana (SLO):
The location is really at the top. The accommodation is great. The food and the transportation are also great, and we also get all the necessary information in time, so that we don‘t have any problems. My
favorites are our guys from Ljubljana.
Valentina Primossi,
University of Trieste (ITA):
We are a young team which was assembled recently. We have not had enough luck on some games, but at least we won one. I like it here and specially I like the fact that we are all situated at the same place in Ankaran, so we can socialize. The halls are very good, the organization too, a big ‘bravo’ for everybody.
Juliana Karlocai,
University of Physical Education (HUN):
Our team is getting better after every game. The organization is OK. We also love the beach, the parties. Everybody is so gentle. I’ve never been in Slovenia before, but I like it. It’s so sunny, all people are nice and in the future I will come back with my family or my friends to visit it.
Argo Orumaa,
Estonian University of life science (EST):
I‘m feeling very well at Koper, it‘s very hot here. The city is very small and everything is very close. The arenas are really cool. Slovenian girls are very pretty and my best team is Slovenian girls team. An interesting thing
about me is that I‘m a model for Calvin Klein.

The third impressive touristic site is the church of St. George, positioned on the cliff above the sea.
Today Piran is famous for his restaurants, museum, aquarium and - traffic limitations.
PIRAN
The town, a collection of sculptures, portals and other artefacts of secular and church art, holds a rarity: the majestic town defensive walls. The main Tartini Square acquired its present appearance in the second half of the 19th century, after the inner part of the city port was filled. The square was named after the well-known Piran local violonist and composer Guiseppe Tartini (1692–1770), who made the name of his birthplace known throughout Europe.
With the Roman conquest of the Istrian peninsula in the years 178 and 177 BC, a gradual colonisation and Romanisation began. But the name Piran could have even older origins, because ‘pyros’ in Greek means fire.
During the history Piran followed step by step the political destiny of of Koper and Izola, but it manage to conserve the ancient spirit of the town more than the northern neighbors.

Today the port of Koper is probably the most important port of the northern Adriatic sea. It is not only the heart of the local economy, but it is a crucial factor for the economy of the whole country of Slovenia.
Luka Koper (Port of Koper) is a public limited company, who provides port and logistics services in the port of Koper. The port was founded in 1957, and the first ship was moored a year and a half later, when the first berth was completed. The moored ship was Gorica, the transoceanic ship owned by the Slovene ship-owner Splošna Plovba from Piran. Luka Koper got its present name in 1961. Two years later the customs zone was set up.

LUKA KOPER
The total cargo of the Port of Koper amounted to 18 million tonnes in 2013, whilst the Container Terminal broke its existing record with a throughput of 674.033 TEUs in 2014, becoming the leading container terminal in the Adriatic.

In 1967 the company, as an investor, completed the construction of the 31-kilometre railway track from Koper to Prešnica, which enabled Luka Koper to be included in the European railway system.
